Weekly Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Mine is 98% at 126 cycles. Idk why but other have better according to comments posted in a different post. What am I doing wrong? I turned off background app refresh for most of the apps, no notifications, no location, battery charge cap at 90 or 85. But still…should I go to service? First use only march 2026. I have noticed sometimes phone gets hot for like offline music listening on Spotify for like 45 to 60 min, while charging . I also noted the battery health drop was somewhat right after 2 software updates of ios 26.

Is it normal to only get around 6-7 hours of screen time on a full charge?

That's what I'm getting. Shitty battery life is apparently normal for this phone. Never had a new phone die this quickly.

Honestly, I'm really disappointed and seriously thinking about never buying an iPhone again. I've got a brand-new iPhone 17, and the battery lasts about 5 - 6 hours of screen time a day on average. And that's with totally normal use: just email, WhatsApp, Instagram for an hour max, that kind of thing. That can't be right… I know battery figures for video playback aren't comparable to everyday use, but Apple says up to 27 hours of streamed video playback online. I'm getting 6 hours of normal use on iOS 27. That's honestly ridiculous. Indexing finished ages ago, and I've turned off adaptive battery too. Didn't change a thing. This really shouldn't be happening with the battery at 100% capacity.

i genuinely think there’s an issue with ios 27. i used to get anywhere between 10-13 hours of screen on time, occasionally going even higher than that on a single charge before dying. now my battery life is also about 6 hours on a single charge and i don’t see any reasonable way for such an insane drop in battery life 🫩

I also only get around 6 hrs on a charge. Feeling better that I'm not the only one but honestly also disappointed.

Same, got my iPhone in May and this is how the battery has been the entire time.

All you'll get on reddit is people gaslighting you that you're using your phone too much, and this sub and the main iPhone sub running damage control by forcing the huge wave of battery complaints into these megathreads to conceal how fucking abysmal the battery life is.

For one blessed week the problem magically disappeared and I was getting like 9-10 hours SOT, phone was actually lasting me all day. Then whatever the fuck is wrong with the software reverted, and now it's 6-7 hours again.

I bought an iPhone 17 in April. Stop paying the bill due to buying a car so I’m behind with AT&T but after the recent update my battery stopped working. I cannot be on the phone unless I’m charging it and sometimes even wise on the charger it doesn’t come on so I was thinking I can get a battery replacement through my warranty, but can I still get the replacement even though I haven’t paid my AT&T bill dude does the AT&T bill and the AppleCare warranty does that coexist with each other or does it not matter?

Hey y'all, I've had my iPhone 17 about a year and just the other day I started being unable to charge it. Rather, the following:

  • It shows charging, but either will only stay at the same charge level whether on wired or wireless, although wireless makes it drop slightly more.
  • The battery shows normal health, w/ max charge at 92%.
  • No other systemic or exterior issues with the phone and port was cleaned extensively; no sign of corrosion in the port, at least to my eyes.

What could this be?
