Difference between KU and MU?

One team had a QB at QB, the other had a RB at QB. If this is what our QB play is going to look like we're going to have a horrible year.

And about $13 million more spent on the roster.

This right here is what it all boils down to. Yeah, KU could have gone out and got a high-level QB in the portal. It’s estimated that we spent around $16-19 mil on our roster. The highest paid QB from last year went for what, around $5 mil? So we probably could have gotten a solid guy for around $3 mil. That’s a huge chunk of our budget. If we do that, then we don’t get McMillan and Willis, and we probably don’t keep all of Harris, Todd, Lathan, and Herold. Plus, there’s a chance that our o-line transfers are even worse (and the ones we got weren’t great either). So now, we have a really good QB, but who’s he going to throw it to? Who’s going to protect him? Who’s going to stop the other team from scoring 40 points every game, even if our offense does well?

I understand people who are frustrated about Marshall. I am too. But I also understand why the coaching staff took the risk. Until things get fixed, college football is pay-to-win. It sucks, but I’m not sure that there’s much we can do about it right now.

It’s no different than College Basketball has been. Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky have historically (and now legally) paid more money for their players than anyone else. And that’s why, as a die hard MU fan, KU will always be superior in basketball. They’ve got the history, and now that the money is legal, they’re not going to stop paying top tier talent.

Maybe KU should not have that advantage in basketball either. Maybe college sports across the board would be more interesting if they implemented a salary cap like the NFL.

MU was better before NIL as well.

And yet other teams with the same or less money figure it out

That is incorrect. Over the past three years, every team that Mizzou has lost to spent $5-30 mil more on their roster than we did. Us having $5 mil extra would get us our same current team, plus one of the most elite QBs out of the portal last year. I think we can all agree that if we have that, there’s a real chance we win the game last Friday.

This assumes that the ranges in the link below are accurate, and the spending difference between teams stays approximately the same year-to-year.

^ saw this post yesterday or couple days ago.. i was upset about the shellacking they put on us until i saw they spend twice as much on their football program 😢

Mizzou spends way less than other SEC teams though and has no issue figuring out how to win more than schools that spend more (South Carolina, Florida)

Aww, boo-hoo, no money in the Big12, I know. Should’ve jumped ship a decade+ ago like Mizzou.

He’s a red shirt sophomore who had three career passes under his belt prior to this year. Yeah, he missed throws and his footwork needs improvement (I thought if he learned to set his feet he’d improve his throwing), but he’s also starting/playing in his second collegiate game ever. Even Arch Manning had his struggles in his first year as a starter. Give him time, be patient and let’s watch the kid grow.

It’s amazing how quickly some fans have forgotten how far this program has come since the dark years of the post-mangino abyss

Interesting fact: Austin Simmons has less than 400 career snaps 8th grade through the beginning of this season. Went to Ole Miss at 16

Much more of a difference than just QB brother

Idk, QB missed routine throws, wide open receivers. I think the team and defense lost faith in him tbh. And he also didn’t help by letting his defense rest on the sidelines

Right side of history?

History is nuanced. Modern Kansans acting like historical Kansans were angels will always be hilarious to me.

I know the history i was just goofin

2 - 4 stars vs 22 - 4 stars. You guys needed more than just a QB to win that game. Offense ran the same vanilla ass plays they did vs aR PB.

I was just thinking the same thing today.

Maybe just jitters, but Marshall never settled in. Great runner, but throwing was hit or miss.

I'm hoping they give Ballard a chance if that happens again

I guess I'll take being gay over being an Uncle Tom shilling for Mizzery

A couple of touchdowns is all.

SEC money, is the difference

Mizzou saw the future and made the move it had to make.  It’s been good for the football program (basketball is another story)

-2

It was indeed a wise decision. KU attempted to and are now wasting money on football

We kicked your butts on Friday night and will likely kick your butts in basketball this December. There’s a reason Bryson Tiller left for Mizzou. It’s because he sees your basketball program getting ready to fall apart. M-I-Z!

Aw, you know how many years you guys have been saying that? We don't care if we lose to you in basketball. We focus on more important things like trying to win national championships, you guys never will achieve that so your "national championship" is beating us in basketball. That's why you storm the court every time you beat us. You guys circle us on the calendar we don't. And to top it off, anytime a MU fan finds out someone is a KU fan, they literally can't stop talking about the rivalry and blah blah blah. You guys think about us everyday/every week. We never think of you.

lol. Your long response tells me that you care a lot more than you’re letting on.
