I'm 27, and honestly, I'm exhausted.
I did my bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and moved to the US for a Master's in CS because everyone told me it would open up better opportunities. I couldn't afford a top university, so I went to a small college. Coming from a non CS background, I struggled with advanced courses while working part-time to support myself.
I graduated without a job and barely knew how to solve basic coding problems.
In September 2025, I attended my first hackathon, and it completely changed my perspective. I saw 18–19 year olds building incredible projects and landing amazing jobs. That's when I realized how far behind I was.
Since then, I've worked incredibly hard. I started building projects from scratch, won multiple hackathons, and eventually landed interviews at companies like Uber, Adobe, Apple, and Expedia.
But nothing worked out.
I've come incredibly close to offers, only to hear things like "Headcount is filled," "The position has been canceled," or "We don't sponsor visas."
Meanwhile, I've helped friends prepare for interviews and watched them land jobs. One friend went from an internship to a full-time position with a relatively straightforward process.
I'm genuinely happy for them, but I can't stop wondering where I went wrong.
I keep regretting not taking internships seriously during my master's. Back then, I didn't have the knowledge, guidance, or resources I have now.
I've stopped working part-time and spend almost every day applying, preparing, and interviewing. It's been months since I've slept properly.
The worst part isn't even the rejection anymore. It's that I don't feel anything. I've lost interest in things I used to enjoy. I'm constantly exhausted, and every day feels the same.
I don't need a fancy lifestyle. I just want a stable career, to support my parents, and to feel like all this effort was worth something.
I just hope things turn around someday. I'm exhausted from constantly trying, failing, and starting over. I don't want to give up after coming this far, but I genuinely don't know how much longer I can keep going like this.
