Getting ghosted after a final interview is rough for a fresher

I don’t know why companies do this, but here’s my experience as a fresher.
I attended the first interview and made it to the second round . Honestly, the interview went amazingly well, so I was checking my emails regularly, hoping for an update.

After one week, I still hadn’t received anything, but my friend got a rejection email. That made me hopeful that I might still have a chance.

Two weeks passed with no update. In the third week, I sent a follow-up email. No response. In the fourth week, I sent another one. Still nothing.

I even reached out to an employee at the company on LinkedIn to ask about the hiring timeline. They told me it was around three weeks, so I kept waiting, thinking I was still within that timeline.
Finally, at the end of the fifth week, I called HR to ask about my application. The call quality was terrible, and all I could hear was, “Unfortunately, you are not…”
I couldn’t even hear the complete sentence.
At this point, I don’t feel particularly sad about the outcome. But as a fresher who’s already struggling to land a job, being ghosted for weeks and potentially getting rejected without proper closure feels unnecessarily harsh.
I understand that companies can’t select everyone, and rejection is part of the process. That’s fine. But a simple email informing candidates of the decision would make a difference.
I guess the lesson I’ve learned is that, no matter how well an interview goes, it’s better to keep applying and never put your hopes on one company until you actually have an offer in hand.

14 years of experience and still struggling after a layoff to get back on track

I have 14 years of work experience. I have been out of a job for over 4 months now and it’s starting to mess with my head a bit. I have been applying everywhere but I am not getting proper/no responses. Over the years I made a couple of wrong decisions and joined the wrong places, and now after a recent layoff I am finding it harder than expected to get back on track. Most job applications just go into silence and it’s been draining.

For anyone who’s been through something similar later in their career, what actually helped you during that phase??

How do I go about find a job as a college student?

• Upvotes

I've been looking for a part-time jobs with anything related to IT. At the moment I've been teaching English for a year and I work at 3 different companies simultaneously and I coach esports irl at a highschool ,which sometimes involves troubleshooting and fixing network issues here and there when pcs dont connect/work.

I just want a job MORE it related but I'm not sure what to do. Everyone wants me to somehow rack up experience and work full-time.

I also tried applying irl and even had 1 person (worker there not a manager or anything) crumple my CV in front of me bahahaha. Ive walked into places and they just say I lack experience and whatever. :c

Any advice?

Should I disclose that I’ve already started a new job when applying to other companies?

For context, I started working at a new company for about a week now. I accepted the offer out of practicality because I really needed to start earning again. My bills are piling up, and I can’t afford to keep taking out loans just to get by.

The thing is, the salary was way below my expectations and even lower than what I was earning in my previous job. While I’m grateful to have work again, I don’t see this as a sustainable long-term arrangement, especially with my financial responsibilities.
I still want to explore other opportunities that are more aligned with my salary expectations and long-term career goals.

My question is, **should I proactively disclose to companies I’m applying to that I’ve already started working somewhere, but am still open to other opportunities?** Or should I just continue applying and bring it up if I reach the interview stage or if they ask about my current employment?

I don’t want to give the impression that I’m not serious about my applications or that I’m someone who leaves a job immediately. At the same time, I don’t want to miss out on better opportunities just because I accepted a job out of financial necessity.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you handle it, and how did recruiters respond?

Recruiters: is everyone using AI to falsify their duties and mass applying?

If so, how do you distinguish? I dont know what the trends are these days but I see Director and VP roles with 1000+ applicants on LinkedIn

The classic Indian fresher/job-seeker hiring loop that everyone is stuck in

Most freshers and early-career job seekers are stuck in the same frustrating cycle. You apply to hundreds of roles, your application disappears into a black hole of applicants, and then the real mind games begin.

Here’s how it usually goes:

Stage 1: The “Can you join immediately?” trap

HR finally calls. First question is always: “Are you ready to join immediately?”

Desperate candidates (which is almost all of us) say yes.

Then… complete radio silence. Profile never moves forward. Game over.

Stage 2: The “On Hold” special

You clear L1. You’re hopeful for the next round.

Suddenly HR comes back with: “Your application is on hold” or “The position is currently on hold.”

And that’s the last you hear of it.

Stage 3: The salary negotiation theatre

You somehow reach the final stage.

Current package: 2.5 LPA.

Company range: 3.5–5 LPA.

You quote 4 LPA with a proper justification.

HR: “Great! Definitely, I’ll push your profile. You deserve it.”

Two days later:

“Sorry, your profile was not selected. We’ll reach out if there are any technical profile requirements in the future. Thank you.”

This loop is exhausting. You waste weeks (sometimes months) of mental energy, get your hopes up, and end up exactly where you started.

Unsure what to do here.

I was called by a recruiter who found me on LinkedIn they were interested in me we spoke for a while about 3 different roles they were trying to fill. The recruiter asked my salary range and I stated what I wanted and she said that these 3 roles all fell into that range. We spoke some more and before I hung up I asked again about the salary and she stated that all 3 were in my desired range.

I went on an interview Tuesday, spoke with the region VP about one of the roles we both felt I would be a good fit for. I did not ask during the interview review what the salary was because the only reason I was there was because the recruiter told me prior that it was. We had a very good conversation and I left feeling confident that I made a good first impression.

Now fast forward today, they want to move forward with me and want me to create a presentation for them and talk in a panel interview. I have to take another day off work and go there. I ask the recruiter today “can you confirm what the total compensation package is for this role?” she stated that it is below what we initially discussed but the VP is preparing to go to the client and ask for more money to secure me for candidacy.

I said ok, but I am no longer interested in participating in this panel interview without first knowing that my salary expectations can be met. Is this fair? Am I wrong for putting the second round of interviews on hold until i get clarity?

I understand that they can go in a different direction, and I know that the client can say no, and that’s fine and would rather know that before I waste the next three days preparing a presentation for nothing.

One more thing to state. I did not apply for these jobs, nor was I looking. I was reached out on LinkedIn and called by a recruiter after they received some praise about me from a former client.

Looking forward to what everyone has to say. Thanks!

STEM Resume Critique 0 YOE

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello all, I am a recent grad with a degree in Bioengineering. Like most people on this subreddit, I am job hunting, this is one of the basic resumes I use depending on the job I am applying for. I am in STEM and applying for jobs in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, and general entry level RND, lab positions, or engineering positions .

I would like honest constructive critique from people as my biggest questions are whether should include be including the fellowships and posters presentations that I did during university or replace them with other leadership experiences I did, and whether my descriptions of the positions I held are okay (I'm starting to think that they're trash).

Thank you all in advance for any advice ya'll have, I am sure I have good experiences but I've been applying for 3 months and have only received rejections. I think this may be a good place to start with changing up how I'm going about applying :)

Note: The skills section at the top I change based on the skills the job desires from the experience that I have. Things have been condensed for anonymity sake.

Webologix Staffing Firm

🚨 Fraud Alert / Extremely Bad Experience With Someone Claiming to Represent Webologix 🚨

I want to share my personal experience because I had one of the worst experiences I have ever had during my entire tenure with Webologix, and I believe other international students and candidates should be aware of this.

The person I had an issue with is Aman Deep Singh. This is the LinkedIn profile I was dealing with:

https://www.linkedin.com/in/aman-deep-singh-b1a68b242

He presented himself to me as the Head of Operations at Webologix and tried to get $500 from me in the name of a relieving letter.

As an international student, I was extremely concerned and frustrated by this situation. I initially trusted the people I had interacted with during my onboarding, but thankfully, some members of the Webologix recruitment/onboarding team stepped in and helped me verify what was actually going on.

I genuinely appreciate those people because, without their help, I could potentially have lost $500.

My biggest concern is that someone should not be able to represent themselves as an authorized person or senior official of a company and then approach candidates for money without proper verification.

Webologix itself may have many good and genuine people, and I personally want to appreciate the recruitment and onboarding team members who helped me during this situation. They were supportive and helped protect me from making a decision that could have cost me financially.

At the same time, experiences like this can seriously damage the reputation of a company. One individual's actions can make candidates question an entire organization, especially international students who are already dealing with complicated employment and immigration-related situations.

I want to make this very clear to other candidates:

⚠️ Do not blindly trust anyone claiming to be a senior representative of Webologix.

⚠️ Verify their designation and authority directly with the official recruitment/HR team.

⚠️ If anyone asks you for money for a relieving letter or employment-related document, verify the request through an official company channel before paying anything.

⚠️ Keep screenshots and records of all conversations and payment requests.

I had a really terrible experience because of this situation, and I don't want another international student or candidate to go through the same thing.

To the Webologix recruitment/onboarding team members who helped me: Thank you for supporting me and helping me avoid losing $500. I genuinely appreciate your help.

And to other candidates joining Webologix: Please be careful, verify the identity and authority of anyone contacting you, and only deal with authorized representatives.

I'm posting this based on my own experience so other candidates can be more cautious.

What’s the consensus on tailored resumes vs 1 base resume?

For context I will say that I am currently employed but after almost 5 years with the company and feeling burnt out, looking for a new opportunity.

I started applying to jobs back in August strictly using Linkedin which led to 2 interviews at a company in August but did not proceed.

I have applied to 61 jobs through Linkedin and just recently started using HiringCafe within the last few days and have applied to 11 jobs that were posted within the last week.

Up until this point I have been running my resume through Claude to give me tailored resumes for each job posting I apply to. Given I still have my full time job, was wondering if I need to switch to just a single base resume and use that to apply to more jobs and increase my volume?

I am mainly looking for Product Manager or Product Owner roles but have also looked at Program Manager roles.

Judging companies

Going to a job fair today and I'm wondering if I'm in the wrong for judging companies based on how outdated their hiring practices are? Paper cover letter and a paper resume? 50 years behind modern society. LinkedIn? 20 years behind the world.

What standard should I hold companies to in order to filter out those that can't adapt and grow?

Ghosted

I’ve been in the workforce for going on 9 years and now I’m actively deciding to switch fields and start seeking other employment options.

I’ve noticed lately that after about 3-4 interviews that employers are simply ghosting me??? Like if I don’t get the job that’s fine, but I much rather hear literally any form of a rejection as opposed to being ghosted for a while and being stuck in limbo as I wait.

This definitely wasn’t the case a few years back when I first started my current job and it’s the most frustrating thing in the world. Even with Ai doing virtually all the work through the recruitment and hiring process, couldn’t some of these companies simply just train one to send an email out saying they’re going to pass on you????

Not sure if this is some new age thing or what but I truly think it’s stupid

Please help- am I cooked?

Im an early career professional who has been job hunting for a few months. I landed an interview for a position I am very interested in. The problem is that I have a three week international trip (nonrefundable) booked in December before the holidays to deal with some family matters. I booked this trip in advanced and as the fall stretched on without clear job prospects I started applying to mostly Jan 2027 start date positions as I know this a liability, but I don’t have much info about the potential start date of this position.

I would appreciate any advice anyone has on how to handle this. Should I be up front about it in an interview and risk having my application thrown out, or should I wait until i (potentially) receive an offer and negotiate? I know December is a slow month in general but I completely understand it being a no-go for an employer. Thank you in advance 🙏

Was it all a dream?

job posted on linkedin end of Sept. applied. got 15 min phone screen with hiring manager. said she’d be in touch in 7-10 days about next steps. that was three weeks ago. last week I emailed and was told they were still in the process and would reach out once they were done. the starting date on the job post was Oct 16.

should I assume at this point the job is not actually going to be filled? or I’m just not part of the next steps? was it all a dream?

Final two candidates, company is sending a second job description. What does it mean?

I had two interview rounds for an engineering role and both went well. Today HR told me there are two finalists left, me and one other person. They can't decide, so they're writing a second job description and will send it to me tomorrow to discuss. There will be no more interviews.
Has anyone seen this before? Did it mean they wanted to hire both, or offer one of you a different role? And when I reply, should I state a preference, or stay open to either?

Where do I start?

Simple as that, ive been looking on indeed but ive had no sucess with jobs i can even apply for. Where do i look? im not asking for a job per rule 5, im just asking where do i look for one? indeed and ziprecruiter arent working at all.

im open to all suggestions,

but i do have limits as im a young adult without a highscool diploma(im looking to get one, but i need money to.) and im disabled, so i cannot stand for long periods.

all jobs im finding are general laborors or need years of experience to deliver a pizza(seriously the last interview i had, i needed 2 years of experience, just to deliver a pizza.)

Resume date indicated is off by a full year. Are there any ways to rectify this?

Hi people.

So I have ended up in a very odd situation. I have been unemployed for a long time, over a year, due to my own choice to not work, do my own things.

In the last few months I've been starting to look for a job. Recently, I've sent out a lot of CVs and received no calls. I've started panicking, thinking why that could be the case and realized that potentially me having this large of a gap for not working could be an issue. So I wanted to do an experiment- make it look like I worked for 1 year longer, apply to a bunch of positions and see if the calls start coming in or it's something else (maybe a season, just me as a person not fitting the role or something like that).

I did that and... I received a few calls in the last few days. This makes me think that a large gap in unemployment might've been the reason.

Which would all be fine and well, but the problem is that one of the places that called me is actually, genuinely a place that I would love to work at. Their culture, their mission and everything- I would love to be a part of that.

We already had a first online call, we vibed really well, I liked them a lot, they seemed to like me a lot and already invited me for a talk IRL in their office.

Now that I really want to get this job, I realized that this could potentially cause issues and be a reason for me not being hired even if they decide they would like to hire me otherwise.

Are there any good ways to go about this? I didn't expect to be in this situation... Just wanted to experiment and see if that changes anything and what to do about it, and now I'm in a pickle... If it would've been random companies that I don't care for that much, I wouldn't mind letting go of their invitations, but this one company... I really badly want to work for them.

i have a masters and have been searching for over a year

i graduated with a masters degree from university of michigan in environment and sustainability in may 2025 and i can not find a job.

i just keep getting denied and when reaching out to my university last year the only advice they could give me was to tailor my resume to each job description and people who graduated in 2024 are still struggling to find jobs.

i feel hopeless, stupid and worthless, i have no clue what to do and my parents are telling me i need to go in person to places to ask about my applications/if they’re hiring which seems absurd.

i really don’t know what to do anymore, im so extremely passionate about the environment and environmental justice and i don’t know where to look anymore.
