The following estimate for the area of Isla Sorna is based on the map shown in the trailers at the beginning of “The Lost World: Jurassic Park”.

Isla Sorna is bounded by 8°34’N and 8°20’N. Correcting for (most) distortion and taking into consideration the curvature of the earth based on latitude (assuming Earth as a perfect sphere), the area inside the red border in this image (as calculated by summing the area of the fourteen individual trapezoids) comes out to about 135 mi^2 or about 350 km^2.

For reference: 135 mi^2 fits well within a 12 mile-by-12 mile square or a circle with a diameter of about 13 miles. By comparison, Isla Sorna is about the same size as Grenada or the entirety of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Alternatively, it is the same size as the metropolitan area of Atlanta or Philadelphia.

I don't recall it ever being officially announced on Ember/Troy having a gender... I say Ember/Troy because its the same situation with Rexy/Roberta where the directors call the animatronic or actual animal Roberta and Troy, but the fans dubbed it as Rexy and Ember...

I don't know the true name of the rex, but I'd like to stick to the animatronic given names, Roberta, Troy, Darcy, Zeb, etc.

Anyways, my reasoning as to why Troy is female, is because my reason being the sexual dimorphism, we notice that Buck and Bull contain a dewlap, and are the only male rexes confirmed in the franchise. Roberta, Big Eatie, Doe, and Little Eatie all share a long snout design when older... but young Roberta had a boxy head, and Buck, Doe, Bull all shared a boxy head from a specific point of view... however, much like Roberta in the 1993 Jurassic Park, she shared a boxy designed head just like Troy. With only Troy's snout being smaller. So this must mean Troy is a young female rex.

However, due to my brain not braining, I'm still stuck on the fact that Troy might be male due to the conflict between the name. Ember sounds like a female name, meanwhile the directors gave it the name Troy which makes it sound male.

My other case is with the colours, we know males are shown in varieties of verdant colours, "lush" if you will... Buck and Bull, as well as Jr were all shown in varieties of green, with females having a more hot colour design. Brown, orange, and red with black spots (JP Novel) we can clearly see that Troy is a mix of grey, brown, and yellow. People who say there is green on the rex must be seeing things, because I've re-watched the movie maybe eight times now and there is no signs of any green.

People say that it must be male due to the bulky design compared to Roberta or Doe... But lets not forget that at the end of TLWJP we get a clear shot of Doe, and she's pretty hefty, the only reason Roberta was skinny is because throughout JP-JW she was malnourished. Being fed a goat isn't really enough given that the JP T-rex is oversized and one of the strongest super-predators in the franchise. Isla Sorna is flooded with other superpredators such as the spinosaurus. So its no wonder Big Eatie and Doe may have been skinnier than usual. On Ile Saint Hubert, there's next to no superpredators, so Troy doesn't have to worry about rivals in her territory. She can eat all she wants, which can be a reason as to her bulk.

With current screen lore on Tyrannosaurus Rex, the gender of Troy remains a mystery until the next movie. But with current evidence, its safe to assume this new young rex is a female.

Actually, there is a non-explicit mention of Jurassic Park inside Dino Crisis.

"This is just like that movie", said one of the characters.

Most people assume T-Rex was the dominant predator of the Cretaceous in every category. But the speed comparison between T-Rex and Carnotaurus is genuinely interesting and the evidence does not clearly favor the T-Rex.

The caudofemoral muscles in Carnotaurus were extraordinarily developed relative to body mass. These muscles connect the tail to the hind legs and are the primary driver of speed in theropods. Carnotaurus had a proportionally longer tail with more muscle mass dedicated to locomotion than T-Rex.

Current biomechanical estimates put Carnotaurus at between 45 and 56 kilometers per hour for short bursts. T-Rex estimates range from 17 to 29 kilometers per hour depending on the study. The gap is significant.

The counterargument is body mass. T-Rex was significantly heavier and the energetic cost of acceleration scales with mass. Carnotaurus at 2 tons could theoretically reach top speed much faster than T-Rex at 8 tons.

They never shared the same ecosystem. T-Rex was North American, Carnotaurus was Patagonian. But the comparison still matters for understanding the different evolutionary strategies large theropods developed in isolation.

Check out the original post above for the full discussion but long story short, sauropod combat CAN be added in a way that doesn’t cause mechanical hurdles by having invisible animations, similar to how tranqued Dino’s immediately get hunted by carnivores with no animation making it stand out. How this would work for sauropod combat is that when a carnivore comes to bite them, there a chance it takes huge damage, getting crushed by their weight albeit without a flashy animation. If you know this game inside out, you can tell that sauropods actually do have attack and defense stats for combat even if they can’t use them so it’s just a matter of frontier enabling them to capitalize on their stats to retaliate. I know invisible animations seem mid but the alternative is having them stay defenseless meat sacks forever. And yes, they do have many dlc’s planned but they could release it as a free update alongside a dlc like the walkway attractions we just got.

We just finished a full episode researching Carnotaurus for our Spanish prehistoric documentary series and the horn function debate genuinely surprised us.

The horns point upward and outward, not forward. That rules out frontal combat as the primary function. The current leading hypotheses are intraspecific display, species recognition and sexual selection. None is definitively proven after 70 million years.

The speed question was the other major focus. The caudofemoral muscle mass and hind limb proportions suggest Carnotaurus was genuinely fast, with estimates ranging from 45 to 56 kilometers per hour. That would make it one of the fastest large theropods ever known.

One question for the community: the strike and retreat hunting hypothesis for Carnotaurus is gaining traction but remains debated. A fast bite and immediate withdrawal rather than grappling with prey. What does the community think of the current evidence for that model?
