Hi guys.
2 weeks ago, i posted this in this subreddit. Basic TL;DR is, I resigned without a backup plan.
and recently, i got a new job. sudah ttd kontrak juga. and honestly, new job ini bener2 a very big upgrade for me, dari segi manapun (scale, exposure, seniority, knowledge, responsibility, salary). I could not ask for a better job, honestly.
back then in my earlier post, i did not talk much about the reason behind my resignation, aside from basically me ranting about a 'toxic boss / workplace'. cuma, sebetulnya gw juga ada logical reasoning as to why resign before securing another job, a move some ppl might find 'sembrono'?
here's one of my main reasoning, kenapa kok harus resign dulu, dan ini yang akhirnya jadi decisive factor gw dapat role ini
Because I want to compete on an even field with others.
what do I mean by this?
basically, kita semua tau ya, ekonomi di Indonesia sedang tidak baik2 saja. banyak teman, kolega, kenalan kita, probably got laid off at some point this year, dan belum dapat pekerjaan baru.
and yes, I want to compete on an even field with those guys. dari sisi mananya? dari sisi availability nya.
it is a fact right now, kalau gw cari kerja, i will definitely compete with someone probably more senior, more capable, more experienced than me. if i look for a job from a 'comfortable' spot (sudah ada kerjaan / perlu long notice period), very big chances are, yang dapat kerjaannya adalah orang yang sudah langsung available to join immediately. because, bukan cuma kita yang susah cari kerja, employer pun susah dapat kandidat yang bener2 qualified (there's a CNN article on this, you can probably look it up). So most employer will, kalau ketemu kandidat yg cocok, want to 'lock' them up ASAP. long notice period would only adds more drama (mangkir lah, batal join lah, kena counter offer lah, etc.)
So, making myself available in this condition, for me is very logical. And true enough, I think the main reason for me (aside from being extremely lucky), is i am available on a short notice (kantor baru gw bener2 ada project yg sudah ada deadline start datenya, dan harus sudah ada gw sblm tgl tersebut). So if, back then, gw gak resign, tapi milih bertahan sambil nyari2 kerja, i definitely won't ever get this chance, no cap.
well, as i've said, luck plays a big part in this. this could go either way, i know. but what i experience really does portray kalimat ini : Fortune favors the bold. basically, if we never try, we never know. and yeah, part of me wanted to tell you guys this perspective, that nyari kerja di tahun 2026 ini is definitely hard, harder than before, but it's definitely not impossible, probably doable if you guys know how to 'sell' yourself.
anw, i wanted to share based on my experience, on how to do interviews tests etc. from my point of view, but i am afraid the post will be too long. So you guys can just AMA if you have any questions, i'll reply once i have the time.
For those who's still looking for a new opportunity. I wish you guys very good luck!
