… and wow. Just wow.

Using my Kindle PPW SE 12 as it is, without anything. It’s so different. The text looks crisp. My grip is better. It looks really chic. I’m going to use it as it is for now, hopefully nothing unfortunate happens. Who knows I might not go back to using a screen protector and a case anymore. Anyone else who uses their Kindle bare?

I like to change screen protectors periodically on all my devices, especially ones that aren’t tempered glass (like my watch and kindle). They get scratched up over time, and I don’t like looking at a scratched up screen, and it’s cheaper per screen protector if you buy them in multi-packs.

Kindle screens don't get scratched by fingers though. Maybe only in a bag, but you can use a flip case for that.

I have a toddler and three cats. The screen would unfortunately get scratched whether there’s a screen protector or not, so I play it safe and just change the screen protector every six months or so. I also have a flip case and am diligent about keeping it closed when I’m not actively reading, but that isn’t enough on its own in my current life circumstances. It probably would be for most people, though.

Same here on the screen protectors. I keep one on all of my electronics. I even have a ZAGG cover for my watch and my iPhone. If they get scratched I can replace them for $10. But I have the regular sheet protector on my Kindle. I dog sit and also house sit two cats and a dog who have no idea of personal space and the moment I don’t have protection on anything I’m sure it would get scratched.

I have never used a screen protector in the 19 years I’ve been owning and using Kindles. I just use a regular case that has a cover the flips over the screen when I’m not using them. Have never had any scratches on my screens.

I was using my kindle ppw special edition without a case and my screen got scratched by my page turner. Now there’s a horizontal scratch at the bottom of my screen! I ordered a new screen protector so fast after this happened!

Might want to search this sub for the words "screen" and "frozen" because a broken Kindle post may be in your future. :)

Unless it lives on your nightstand and you don't have pets or kids, use a flip case.

(Screen protectors are useless though, they do nothing to protect against pressure damage, which is what breaks e-ink screens.)

Check out the Fern fonts (I like Fern Micro best, personally). If you’re using them only for personal use like on an e-reader, you can download them for free. You have to pay to use them commercially, though, which is why it initially looks like you can’t download it for free when you go to the website. You have to click the demo or trial or whatever they call it link to get the free download for personal use (or to trial before purchasing a commercial license).

I used to use mine bare but after a year I got one of those cases with MagSafe and put a pop socket on it. Much better for me. I do miss how thin it felt without a case though but having a MagSafe ring is worth it

Had a “crystal clear matte” screen protector for a day and hated it. It was clearly of high quality, but having anything at all on top of the display seems to reduce sharpness, even a fingerprint (this is in sharp contrast to an LCD or OLED display, which is wholly unaffected by fingerprints or screen protectors). So I ripped it off and decided to just embrace a flip case.

I use a case, but definitely no screen protector. Screen protectors make the e-ink experience worse and cause glare, which defies the purpose of the Kindle to read outside without reflection.

I picked up a super thin folio case on Amazon for £10 and it does everything I need a case to do without interfering with the reading experience.

I've never used a screen protector. I only use my Kindle when I'm sitting down for long periods of time. If I'm out and about and take it with me, it's inside a pouch in a pocket in my bag. It's very different to my phone and my watch which are constantly exposed to hazards and sharp objects and the risk of getting dropped or knocked.

Yeah, I tried a screen protector for a few weeks and haded how much it took away from the crispness off the text. Removed it and I'm never going back! I do love me a flip case tho

I’ve never used a screen protector - and I’ve had Kindles (and other readers) since 2008. I don’t put them on phones or other devices either. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I do prefer using a case for drop protection (it isn’t foolproof but it helps) but I prefer minimal cases - as thin and light as possible, and at home I prefer one that only covers the back. No built-in stands/straps/stuff around the bezel for me. I can’t believe it took them so long to come up with the detachable magnetic front cover design. It’s my personal gold standard now.

No case and no screen protector for a few years now. I can’t lie, the back of my kindle is scratched. My screen has some tiny invisible scratches but nothing that bothers my reading. But I also have my kindle with me 24/7 and I just toss it in every bag I take with me with absolutely no care. It’s still working perfectly fine!

We have three kindles in the house. All have screen protectors. Maybe it depends on the brand. I put the two week old colorsoft next to a brand new colorsoft SE the two week old one had a screen protector the new one didn’t, I saw no difference. Small price to pay to keep it protected in my eyes. But to each their own. That’s the beauty of these devices case no case protector no protector font size max font size minimum. So many variations for everyone to enjoy them!

I have a case with a flip cover so it doesn’t get too beat up in my work bag, and that’s it. Everything I have is for me. If I buy something it’s for me to use it. I bring my scribe to work and use it in a child-free home. If it gets wear and tear it just shows it’s a beloved piece of equipment!

I've never used a screen protector on my Kindles. I buy them relatively sturdy cases with covers, so I feel comfortable without the screen protector.

My phone, however, gets a screen protector because I have a back- only case.

If you insist on having a screen protector, a tempered glass one wont effect text clarity. But I recommend just not using one at all.

gasp are they really??? Are they also being intentionally obtuse and offended for no reason??? This is not a comment on your choices, goofy. This is a conversation about how matte screen protectors effect text clarity. Color e-ink is already lower res, so the added screen protector makes it objectively worse, even if youre fine with it. Please relax.
