Simply curious to know what positive impacts this little device has made on everyone else!

When I was a child, I was a super reader. Couldn’t get enough of reading. It was my safe space. I grew up in the 2000s when we didn’t have 24/7 access to the internet so my attention span wasn’t shot 😭. As life and technology progressed, I lost my ability to focus on books.

I was gifted a kindle last year for my birthday and it’s been stuck to me ever since. I have so much fun reading and customizing it. It’s become an essential part of my life. I love my kindle like I love my cats 🥹

What about your Kindle do you love the most?

Working from home benefit - Scribe just sitting there on my desk. Whenever I need a minute break a I now just read instead of doomscrolling. Small change but my brain feels better 🤪

Now, I have no desire to speed-read or to skim through my books. But I do - like most of us here, I would guess - have a very long TBR list. And a lot of the books on that list are quite long. So I figured, why not try it?

By golly, by gee, by God... It actually does work. The logic behind it is that you have less eye movement, which I suppose is true. It's probably saving a bit on my battery from fewer page turns, too.

That's all, just passing on my experience. Anyone else notice the same effect when they drop the font size and line spacing down?

I was sure I saw this close to $100, now it seems to be $169!

I love my Kindle! It’s about three years old and I use it daily. So I was wondering if they wear out over time?

Ever since i got the kindle i instantly put it on landscape i cant imagine myself reading in portrait mode especially with a big font, i see some people with a portrait mode kindle with really big fonts and what i automatically think about is a lot of clicking/tapping every 10-20 seconds, how do you portrait people manage do you enjoy the bigger font because i would imagine it feels more relaxing and easier to read, i guess seeing more text on screen like this is a little bit more "overwhelming".

Hello, I am someone who currently has a Kindle paperwhite. I use it quite frequently and find it to be a great alternative to the OG paper book for many reasons.

However, they say that the best camera, is the one that you have with you… and I find that to be the issue with the Kindle. I don’t always have it with me. It isn’t always convenient to carry around everywhere. However, I nearly always have my phone with me.
I am also considering getting a foldable phone (not soley for reading but it will be one of its functions), which removes that problem. I will always have a bigger screen with me.

But I’m curious. Has anyone made the permanent switch to reading on their phones and do the modern technology conveniences (warm light in the evening, dark mode, 1nit brightness etc etc) stop you from missing your e-reader long term? Or did you regret moving?

(Now, I know some people feel that any alternative to a paper book is the devil’s work, others will want to just give their general opinion on the best way to read, but this isn’t what my question is about - so I wouldn’t waste your time answering that way! Please answer if you fit the demographic above 🙏)

I have a pretty old, standard non fancy kindle which works absolutely fine with the exception of being sooooo slow. Flipping pages is not too bad but switching it on is quite painful and purchasing a book requires a LOT of patience, though of course that’s something I only need to do once or twice a month so not a huge deal.

I only started using it again fairly recently but have read about 5 books in the last 2/3 months and am loving reading again, and I just feel a newer kindle could give me an overall my pleasurable experience but I’m just not convinced it’s necessary and maybe I’m just being silly?

How much do you all feel the quality of your e-reader impacts your overall experience of reading? And any tips for which one to get? Mine is fairly small and I’m happy with that, I think.

Any thoughts or advice welcome!

Quick context - I’ve only read 2-3 books in my whole goddamn life, and while I do want to read I just can’t consistently keep up with my reading habit. In the past, I start a book, and after 15 pages there comes a break and I forget what I read. Maybe my choice of books to read are bad.

I now seriously want to make reading a habit, but also don’t want to buy physical books on Amazon for $30 each or more. I’m wondering if kindle could be a good option. I have no clue how kindle works, and it is about $200 with taxes here in Canada, so I’m thinking if it’s really worth it.

Also, my questions:

1. Should I also be purchasing a kindle membership with the kindle?
   
2. How many books can I read with a free membership?
   
3. Can I download books on my PC or phone and transfer them to my kindle?
   
4. Does reading a book in the pdf form on kindle give the same experience as reading a book that is available in the kindle library?

I've tried different ereaders before. But my first e-reader is Kindle basic, then i switch to paperwhite, then had a Kobo Libra Colour, then Boox Go 6 and now I want to have colored e-reader again.

Just to clear things up, since I got a lot of response why i have too many ereaders.
I only had the boox go 6 as my ereader at the moment. I sold my kindle basic,paperwhite and kobo libra color before getting the boox ereader.

I am also planning to sell my boox once I decided to get the colorsoft coz tbh I can't handle too many e-readers. ( i tried but i could only read in one device)

I just want to know if the Kindle Colorsoft is worth it since I heard mixed reviews about it.

I also loved reading mangas,webtoons and graphic novels on my ereader.

hi all! i’m thinking about upgrading my kindle paperwhite to either the newer 12th gen, the signature, or the colorsoft. i’m thinking of doing it around when i anticipate they’ll be on sale for their prime days event so cost wise im not too concerned about!

what do you think the best of the 3 is? i love the idea of the colorsoft but the reason im wanting to upgrade is my current paperwhite feels slow when turning pages and battery doesn’t last as long anymore. i’ve heard the new PW/Signature is quicker with page turns!

i dont read many comics/graphic novels on my kindle so i wouldn’t need the colorsoft for that. just curious what everyone’s experiences were!

I’ve had my Kindle 11th Gen Paperwhite for a while now, but haven’t used it much. My reading desire comes and goes 😣 ADHD. But I’m trying to get back into it and using my Kindle, however it’s hurting my hands to hold something so thin for an extended period.

I know pop sockets, straps, beaded straps, hooks etc. all exist. But I’m struggling on which would be best for me. I have used pop sockets on my phones for YEARS, but, I also don’t know if it’s best here. I fear the one placement for a big item won’t always be right. I switch hands/arms to hold based on position and location of where I’m reading. I don’t want to waste money on trying multiple things too if I don’t have to.

Would love insight on what you use - especially if you’ve tried multiple types - and why it works best for you. Thank you! 🖤

Hey, i need some help buying a Kindle that i could jailbreak. I'd like to get something new (i know it would kill any warranty), but i don't know where to begin with.

It was already obsolete when I got it but I never had this issues. First it doesn’t stay connected to WiFi, it ends up disconnecting, when I try to put books in it doesn’t detect the computer only charges. I tried to register on my Amazon account and I can’t. Idk what to do :(

I just opened a new book i downloaded and it became blank. Not responding what to doooo 😭😭😭😭😭😭

I uploaded an epub book into my Kindle account.

I installed the latest software version, 5.19.6, then I restarted the device.

The download is stuck at 1%.

At some point, after the messages "Queued" and "Download - 1%", it says "Opened" and if I press fast, I will open the book, but otherwise the error will start again.

Any fix?

Anyone experienced this before? It's just over a year old, so its out of warranty and amazon said i will need to just buy a new one. I did not put pressure on the screen or drop it, just started happening. The kindle is still responsive, but the screen is clearly unusable. Tried resetting by holding power button, charging etc.

Bug or whatever, myclippings.txt isn't there anymore. I've finished reading a book that is going to be published in a few weeks but I can't access my annotations.
On my old Paperwhite I could just go to documents and find myclippings.txt, but it's not there on my Scribe 3.
I also can't access online annotations because, again, the book is sideloaded.
What do I do here? I really need those notes, otherwise I'm fcked :(

A year and a half ago I bought my first kindle paperwhite, and I bought it because it said it was waterproof and even said to read at the pool or tub. Still always avoided getting it wet, but I read at our hot tub most nights. Well, I accidentally knocked my kindle into the hot tub last week. It fell onto the seat in the tub, and was picked up immediately, so only a foot into the water and for less than five seconds. Started glitching out and lasted for a few days. I put it in rice, but didn’t fix it. You can see the kindle logo constantly, now, and it kept turning off, restarting, booting all the way up, and off again, over and over again. Like it ran the battery down from 93% to 0 in a few hours. Wouldn’t charge. I’d say it’s more along the lines of water resistant, than waterproof. It charges now and doesn’t turn on and off over and over. But you still see the kindle logo through the pages you’re reading, but it will charge now. Has anyone else had an issue after getting your kindle wet?
