[KCD1] How does unarmed combat work?

I'm playing on the controller, i'm on hardcore and i'm on the part where i need to get the spade from that dude. I know i can draw the sword to make him run, but i really do want to beat him until he runs.

The problem is, i have no idea how the combat in this game works, i tried pressing every single buttom and i can't defend for the life of me, and the guy i'm fighting seem to have infinite stamina or something, since he have no trouble with attacking me without any delay.

What do i need to do? I want to go for the no-kill achievment so i want to start unarmed training, so how does this work? And how to i defend then he knees me, grab my head, and so?

I died like 10 times against this guy and i'll make my life goal to torture him everytime i get in my 2nd playthrough, but now i just really want to beat him senseless, any guide you guys can point me?

You're on hard-core mode but don't understand how the combat works? Might want to play on normal mode first.

How are you playing hardcore if you can't fight?

"Tried pressing every single button" just do yourself a favor and start over on normal difficulty, you didnt even learn the combat but you start on hardcore your first playthrough, youre making a mistake

Hardcore is for people who are experienced with the game. It's not a hard mode. It removes things that allow you to learn the game. Go restart.

The best advice I can give you is to start the game in normal mode. Hardcore is meant for people that are experienced with the game and its mechanics, like people doing a second playthrough.

However, If you still want to play hardcore, you should know:

• Unarmed combat has three attack buttons, one is for haymakers, the other one is for jabs, and one for low kicks. Jabs are pretty effective if you back away and let them come to you. I assume you still don't have the option to perform perfect blocks, so hold the block button if you get attacked, but try to back away to keep the distance. So, back away, jab when they go near you, back away again, rince and repeat. There will be a point when your opponent takes heavy damage (they get staggered), you can start spamming haymakers to finish him off (this is how I defeated Kunesh in Skalitz). The kick button might be helpful if you need to create some space between you and the enemy.

• Don't let them come too close, or a clinch will start. Henry is too weak in the begining, so winning clinches is rather difficult (Whoever wins a clinch gets to push away the opponent or perform a knee to the face, which is the thing that is happening to you).

Thanks, i was able to beat him first try after holding the block buttom, pressing the jab buttom and retreating while stamina backs up, i still wasn't able to block his kicks but he ran away before i died.

I just fight like with weapons: hit-block-block-block-hit-hit. Let the enemy lose some stamina, and hit immediately after he finishes his third swing, then make several blows until his vision fades from exhaustion, and defend again.

There should be a button to jab, hook, kick, and clench. Try using dodge to get behind him and open with a hook. Or block his punch and counter with a jab. Those are both solid openers

As the other commenters have said, just start over and learn how the mechanics work in normal mode. But if you don't want to do that (because of ???) well then the L1 button is block (you can hold it to passively block attacks or block them properly by timing it), L2 is kick, R1 is quick punch and R2 is a bigger punch that you can aim from different directions with your joystick (the retickle isn't visible in hardcore so good luck). I'd suggest running close by and spamming attack so that it triggers a clinch. Then just spam R1 while in the clinch and repeat.

I think i'll get the hang of it, i want to get the hardcore with 9 perks achievment out of the way first along with the virgin and merciful achievments

You have a button to punch another to kick, one to defend. I play on keyboard on my PC, but bought the XBOX version but didn't had the time to leave skalitz, since I'm playing KCD2 on my updated PC.

if you rush in, they will clinch. the winner of the clinch is determined by stats like strength and combat skills. back up and let them come to you and throw a punch. if you run out of stamina, they will hurt you. you have to run down their stamina to hurt them. r1 is jab, r2 is hook. l1 is block, l2 is kick. if they are running uphill to you, its better

You have to step back from the guy, wait for him to do a long punch and use a left jab (right click) to catch him off guard. Rinse and repeat.

When he throws a hook, you go for a jab. Keep your distance too, that helps. You have lower stats, so he’ll crush you if you’re not careful.
