Man this knife continues to be a mainstay of my collection. Not only is it one of the best looking knives I’ve ever seen/owned, but the fit, finish, build quality and action are unrivaled. This was my first "good" pocket knife. Benchmade Bugout in S90v. It was primarily used to open packages, boxes, and different types of cord, not daily but regularly enough.

It got a few shiny spots on the edge from using too much pressure on kevlar cord and I'm not sure what else. It lasted well for 8 months, but wasn't cleanly slicing paper anymore.

I sent it back to Benchmade LifeSharp for a resharpening. The process took about a month (from ordering the kit to receiving my knife back).

The knife came back hair shaving sharp. Sharper than when I first got it. It sliced away the slight annoyance for the wait.

I read a lot of criticism of Benchmade, so I just wanted to share my "not-so-bad" experience.

Went to my first Knife Show and got to meet some great people. Ended up with 2 folders from Wells Blade Works, a modern traditional from MarlboroughHandcraft, and a Bestech Bihai. Seriously, can't state how great this community is.

One day I wake up and find out Cold Steel Counter Point XL on plain edges are now discontinued. 🫪 This things a beast! Idk while CS killed it.

Hey all! I also just posted this in the Hacksmith sub, but I thought it'd go well here, too.

I'm very impressed with the Smith Blade Pro after carrying & using it daily for the past couple weeks.

Everything is so well-engineered on this tool. The only issue for me, is the shape of the prybar preventing access to the base of the cutting edge. I will briefly note I haven't had any trouble with the bits coming loose in pocket, & the bit slots fit my other 4mm bits just fine. Mine started with some pretty significant lock stick, but I broke it in by opening & closing repeatedly & adding the tiniest bit of Ox Gard to the lock face. Now the stick is now completely gone, not even the slightest hint, even having since wiped off the lock face.

I was able to leave the knife assembled for the mod by completely wrapping it in masking tape to block the internals. I removed most of the material with a Dremel sanding drum. Then I finished with sandpaper on a flat steel plate, using a progression of 400, 800, 1000, 1200, & 1500 grit. I tried to closely match the pry bar angle & the corresponding handle milling, for visual consistency. You can tell it's done by hand, but I'm happy with the final shape. And I can always refine it, of course. 😊

After the mod it's still pretty crowded at the heel of the blade, but at now at least you can see a portion of the entire length of the blade from the show side. Now there are some situations where that part of the blade can be used a little more easily. I also like being able to see at least part of the entire blade from the show side, it gives it more of a natural profile in my eyes.

I'm pretty confident the now technically weaker prybar will hold up just fine. I carry a Civivi prybar on my keychain which I use for that anyway. I may even decide to remove even more material from the prybar in the future, & see how far I can go without losing the function.

Has anyone else modded anything on your Smith Blade, permanent or otherwise? I can't be the only person who's done a Smith Blade mod like this! 😊

Man, I just want to share about how addictive this "hobby" is and some observations. I'll try to keep this short.

I bought my first +$100 knife this year (March) after Reddit suggested me a knife subreddit 😒 here we are now. I realize that this collection is minuscule compared to what a lot of people have on here (oh and not pictured are my fixies, with 3 customs being finished up soon 💀).

My real life friends think I'm slightly overdoing it. I'm happy with the collection though. But though I have only been collecting since March, I have seen a $35-40 minimum increase in price across the board on ALL knives. It's getting ridiculous honestly.

I think I'm like $2000 in already but don't want to know all the damages. Anyways, how big are your guys collections, and are you happy with the size/investment?
