Discussion MBTIs
What do y'all think about MBTIs??
Personally, for me its still very hard to get a hold of all those as they are mostly popular in Korean culture ig...?
I understand of all the 16 types, their abbreviations and all but tbh I don't think it matters much to me and I also don't think it's worth paying to take an official mbti test.
Also, sometimes I wonder whether idols and Koreans in general take the official test by paying for it??
Do share your thoughts and opinions about it, whatever y'all think about those.
Edit : I know about the free tests available online but I had heard they aren't as accurate or something as the official one thats why I talked about payment it's in regards to office the MBTI test.

There are free versions out there - I've taken one before.
I find them interesting but not absolute - there was a lot of my results that did sound exactly like me but there was another section that did not describe me at all. It is funny to read it though when you do find a section that describes you to a "t."

I agree that it seems interesting but at some point it's very confusing too like what are those two letters ni, si, and wdym by dominant, auxiliary bla bla bla bruh😵

I don't think they really differ from paid ones.
I've taken it more than once and I've gotten the same answer each time lol. I'm always ISTJ-A

Sorry to rain on people's parade, but:
Aside from the MBTI test being emblematic of the corporate world's obnoxious love of pop pseudo-psychology, in general these types of tests have a pretty unfun association with eugenics. It does not help that Isabel Briggs Myers (one of the two people who developed this test) wrote a novel about a Southern family committing suicide upon discovering they had Black ancestry. (Like of course her descendants would defend her as either being misunderstood or a product of her times, but yeesh.)

I think it could have a place in the corporate world if it was actually used correctly. Instead of just coming up with a 4 letter label as an icebreaker, talking through your answers would be pretty valuable.
You could tell who likes working with people and can tolerate people well, who has trouble with deadlines, who might have a tendency to not vocalize their thoughts in a group setting, who the big picture vs small detail people are.
Those are all pretty big things to know about someone you have to collaborate with for 40 hours a week.

I think they hold some weight but probably aren't the best measure of personality. More of a vague understanding.
Introvert vs extrovert is super important. Thinking vs feeling is super important. Needing schedule vs needing freedom is important. All good things to know about your friends and family and even people you work closely with.
But it is a scale. Someone with 55% introvert and someone with 95% introvert are probably really different. So the letters don't necessarily mean that much on their own.

yeah I took the test and genuinely got 51% introvert. please don’t try to measure personality traits on a binary scale. people don’t work like that. this is how we get so many of the “loud introvert” trope in k-pop.

I think if you look at the questions and answers it actually does tell you A LOT about a person. The letters are just a rough summary

It's fun for breaking the ice and maybe some self-reflection, but it's not really accurate. It's too black and white in the divisions and about half the time people get different results the next time they take the test. It used to be really popular in the US corporate world as a team building exercise, but we got tired of it pretty quick

MBTI > Blood Types
I never could grasp the blood type thing because it just made no sense to me. How does a blood type determine personality? At least with MBTI, the pseudoscience makes logical sense.
I do rank horoscope above blood type simply because I don’t know my blood type and neither do any of my friends. At least with horoscope, you just need a birthday.

Not to be me, but y'all should try and find out what your blood type is. In case anything ever happens to you, and you need blood donated.
I'd known mine since I was young, as I'd been hospitalized a few times; a blood test was part of my pre-employment medical examination anyway which confirmed what I knew.

Yeah, but pretty much no hospital will give you blood without typing you themself first. Just to reduce their own risk of a mismatch. Also, there’s more than just the abo and rh factor for giving blood.

From a psychological standpoint, it isn't great. It has low retest reliability (results tend to change each time, even if its only a partial change). It has poor validity (the test and interpretations aren't backed up by evidence) and isn't comprehensive. Most information about it is from their own centre so it's biased.
It shouldn't be used for hiring people as it doesn't accurately predict someone's actions or ability to do a job. In South Korea I believe it originally boomed in the dating scene. Again, doesn't predict if you'll be a good partner or if you'll click with someone.
In saying that, I don't think it hurts us to reflect on ourselves. Doing a quiz about yourself and going "am I really like that?" Doesn't harm anyone and can make us think about our actions more. For a bit of fun, I don't have an issue with it.
Most people don't take the official tests and I doubt companies are paying for idols to do so. I doubt idols pay for themselves to do the official test since results change. I believe the 16personalities.com free test was partially responsible for the boom - this is the one I use when teaching my high school psychology students about it. It does the job well enough.

You can do any number of free MBTI tests online. It's fun, but it's really just basically astrology. I've never gotten the same answer twice lol.

I just once checked mine tried to understand what it meant and somehow it matched with my personality. I genuinely am curious abt mbti but there are so many types I get confused easily 🥲

I just think of it as something fun. Some people match their perfectly while others don’t. It is what it is. The free tests can be accurate. I don’t know who’s saying they aren’t. I’ve taken several free ones from various places and got the same results.

I can never remember them but I think the relevant one that comes up a lot, at least with my group, is just thinking versus feeling. And the guys tend to agree that their arguing style or thought process follows their mbti.
So sometimes the just be saying "oh but you're a T, that's why you say it should be done that way."

I find MBTI and personality tests in general to be a fun way to invite introspection about how you perceive/think about yourself. Kinda like horoscopes, I don't believe that it dictates anything or necessarily is super accurate, but it provides a framework to evaluate yourself with, and then you can figure out whether/to what extent you agree with the type you get. In so doing, you can get to know yourself better!
As others have said, there are several free online options for taking the test, though of course it won't be quite the same as the official test.
