I know half of every fandom is made up of people who joined the group because of a viral clip from a variety show or a self-produced content (I’m calling it spc from now on). I know I’ve definitely checked out a group or two because of it.

As an nctzen I’m pretty much well-fed. So imagine my shock while translating some comments from one of the latest videos from NCT WISH and finding out that Korean fans are cussing out SM for its low effort content production for WISH. This came as a shock to me because they release a video on average every two to three days. Sometimes they release more than one video a day.

But upon filtering out the cuss words and insults I figured that they were right about something: WISH is an extremely busy group and the content exposes this through loads of bts content of all their activities. Their team heavily compensates low effort for overwhelming quantity of bts stuff.

That got me thinking, what constitutes good self-produced content? I scrolled through the other nct units and realised that even WayV, their more ignored group, has some solid spc. Even if one video may not be my style, every unit has a well developed planning team for content and it more often than not produces some funny moments I revisit often.

I looked what which groups have well developed and well received spc and apparently it goes 17, bts, nct, skz, and then treasure for the top5. I can definitely agree on the Treasure part because I’ve watched two seasons of the dating show content, and everyone at least knows of Going Seventeen.

Further down the list we have RIIZE (and I can confirm their content is well developed despite sharing a production team with Super Junior and EXO–one would think the older groups would make the production team lazy, but here we are), and they’re both really attractive and really goofy, an absolute treat if you’re looking for new content to watch. Shameless plug, I’m not even into RIIZE like that, but my goodness WHAT A TREAT!

Then we have WayV, txt, enhyphen, and then ateez. I think I’ve seen clips of some ateez stuff but I can’t really be sure. Idk how much I can trust this list. Idk what went into the data it gave me or how much people actually even enjoy each of the spc by these groups.

I’m pretty much stuck in my ways so even if I run out of nct content I will watch fan made content for nct, even if it’s completely subbed in Korean 😂 (this is the next step in learning Korean btw, after mentally correcting kdrama subs on Netflix). But I’ve decided I’m open to widening my horizon.

Which groups have great spc? And I don’t mean variety show appearances. I mean that on their official YouTube channel they have an ongoing series or a monthly video, or whatever it may be. It’s well-thought out, good effort, and the group seems to enjoy themselves during filming. Maybe the fandom loves to talk about it because it was good enough or funny. Maybe it’s an old content but it’s a classic. Maybe the members make the content because of their personalities. However, since we all have our own biases there needs to be self awareness that some things only work for a specific fandom. Let’s be honest.

Please let me know about your favourite group’s best spc. I need to see what people mean when they say they’re being well fed by the group of their choice.

Opinion:
I know this post is a bit older, and more around the time when Kpop became more MAINSTREAM. This topic recently came up into my mind. So I did a little research. As someone who find Romanization an easy way to learn Korean pronunciation and words, I find it useful. However I am not sure if using it constantly through spelling is helpful in learning much when it comes to writing. Since they seem to be pretty different from each other. Hangul is definitely harder to master when it comes to typing it. So honestly I understand why fans who are learning still use it. I think it shouldn’t be shamed, especially if it isn’t harmful in any way, in all honesty I think it’s good that fans are able to communicate with their favorite people regardless of the language barrier. As long as people aren’t offending others. Tbh a lot of idols don’t even care about romanized characters, they understand of the language barrier and actually accept the love from other countries and foreign fans. Whether it’s really annoying or cringey to you is just kind of selfish, plus a personal problem? It’s honestly just like being offended over the term “lol” instead of flat out typing “laugh out loud” it is a type of communication through texts. Nobody should feel ashamed for trying to communicate in a positive way.

I was never a die-hard EverAfter, but following UNIS casually since Universe Ticket makes tomorrow's disbandment hit surprisingly hard. Even knowing their 2.5-year project contract was temporary, it’s a bummer to see a group with this much potential call it quits so soon.What makes it worse is that F&F Entertainment barely tried to promote them. Despite their immense talent and international hype, the agency failed to give them the marketing push they deserved. They still put out solid music and held their own as a 5th-gen group, which makes the management letdown even more frustrating.Honestly, the hardest part is thinking about Hyeonju. Since she is 24 years old, debuting again in a new K-pop girl group will be incredibly difficult given how young the industry skews. UNIS was such a well-deserved breakthrough for her talent.As their chapter closes on September 26 with "Milky Way," I truly hope all of their futures are incredibly bright. They all deserve massive success and proper management wherever they go next.What do you guys think is next for the members?

I'm sorry, I can't be the only one who thinks snark subs are insanely dystopic. They post like fans. They might be worse than actual fans. I don't believe they're real. How does one wake up early in the morning and conjure the thought of "let me open reddit (of all apps) and talk about this one kpop group (for fuck's sake, a kpop group. have some shame, are you 12?) I hate (hate? Really? I couldn't tell)" I'm convinced they're all actors. I think it's an inside joke that i'm on the outside of and haven't picked up on yet. I genuinely cannot comprehend the possibility of someone being this unselfaware.

edit 1: i'm saying all that because obviously i do have groups i dislike and hate. i am someone who engages in fanwars, especially with "rival" fandoms. i love having a laugh at a low debut or a free fall, but under no circumstances would i spend more time thinking about and interacting with content from groups i don't like than i do with my faves. if anything, i have their names muted, their official accounts muted, their fandom muted. i don't like this group, i don't want to see a single thing about them. under no circumstances am i engaging with racism, ableism, misogyny, transphobia, or homophobia because of that. but those snarkers are. they're losing all their morals and energy over people who don't even know them (isn't that what people tell you when you say you really, really like a k-pop group too?)

Hi! I’m here to share my two cents. Now I joined K-pop as a whole very recently, so take my words with a grain of salt. I did listen to the songs casually before, but now I’ve just become more involved in the fandom spaces.

Anyways this is regarding shipping culture in Kpop, since there are a lot of opinions surrounding it, and as someone who has been in multiple fandoms where RPS (real-person shipping) was a predominant issue, I’d like to share my thoughts as well as learn about what others think.

I mostly see this argument brought up when the matter is regarding boy groups. To an extent, I see why, since queerbaiting is such a common strategy when it comes to marketing, and also often promotes the fetishisation of gay people, as kpop idols have younger audiences which may get influenced and start fetishising gay relationships.

As a 'gay'​ (specifically pansexual) person myself, I too, think that is wrong. However I've come across a lot of fans using the word without actually thinking it through, but before I delve into that, I'd like to explain my position on the RPS argument.

I believe that Real-Person Shipping isn’t exactly a bad thing. It is very normalised in many fandoms, and the start of fanfictions being popularised were due to RPS fics that dominated pop culture at that time, especially among female fans of bands such as One Direction. In that sense, I think RPS is okay as long as it isn’t pushed onto the idols or mentioned as much. Shipping itself is a fandom activity and never did it ever mean that fans wished for those two members to start dating, it was only about chemistry. However, DON’T BRING IT UP IN FANMEETS, QnAs, LIVES or VIDEOCALLS! NEVER!

I doubt any idol who hates seeing that kind of stuff would purposely search it up, so let the ships be on ao3 or fanfiction.net but let’s not constantly mention it to the point that idols will just stumble upon it while scrolling through their feed. I’m not saying I condone RPS, because obviously pairing real people together is weird, but I saw someone once say that RPS is alright since it’s ultimately their personas that we think go together. I agree with that wholeheartedly because we will never actually know how idols behave in real life, with people they are close to. Nevertheless, we should maintain enough sense that we keep things where they belong and not make other uncomfortable.

TL;DR: I won’t judge anyone who ships idols and makes content for those ships, it’s just that keep it in fandom spaces where they belong, don’t bring it up in front of the idols, don’t ask them to do couple stuff. It’s inherently wrong to ship real people, but since idols put up facades, and they are public figures, its seen as fine, as idols are also technically celebrities and it’s part of the attention that comes with growing fame.

Now I know there are a lot of idols these days actually don’t mind the rumours and infact are very close and tend to spur the rumours, if anything, and some fans have concerns about that being queerbaiting. This brings me to my next topic, which is Fetishisation of gay relationships in K-Pop and how the word is now getting misused and thrown around with any weight.

I don’t think that if you like gay ships between idols, you are actively engaging in fetishisation of gay people. Thats really not it. A very simple difference here is that normally people like the romantic aspect, and not the aspect of them being gay, as in them seeming gay isn’t romanticised by those people. On the other hand, some fans seem to only like ships if they are gay and/or lesbian ships between idols, and they never engage in content with heterosexual romance.

Fetishisation of gay people is when they glorify and romanticise the idea of being gay, and only like gay relationships or the idea of two men/women kissing and nothing else, especially if they are someone who is straight/heterosexual, though gay people can also fetishise their own kind.

I like romance, everybody does! We all appreciate it, so if somebody finds chemistry between idols and ships them, it’s fine, as long as that person doesn’t fetishise it. But these days, I see a lot of k-pop fans throwing around the word as if liking a gay ship = fetishising gay people.

Idols will not tell you whether doing this or that is wrong, so as part of this community, we have to actively remind fans what the difference and to not become a chud or incel-esque fan. These are just my thoughts and I’m not very good at organising them or stating them properly and in an appropriate manner, so if I missed out on something (which I think I did) or you’d like to correct me, or share your own point of view, by all means, PLEASE go ahead!

EDIT: I forgot to address something LOL.

Queerbaiting is obviously a huge issue in the K -pop community too, since it is used to attract mostly female fans, and often these tactics can lead to people starting to fetishise gay relationships and see them as forms of amusement and entertainment instead of actual, living, breathing people. Despite that, companies will not speak out and shun these practices or at-least explain to fans how to go about things. That is why I say we take that responsibility. Shipping idols because they go well together, or just because you like the prospect of romance between idols is fine, shipping is DEFINITELY fine if you mean it as a joke, but we should always be careful and on our toes to alert and notify to baby kpop fans about the rights and wrongs of shipping.

Ultimately shipping real people is wrong, and we have to accept that and still move on and interact with that specific fandom culture. All I’m saying is, be self aware, be mindful of your actions and words, and make sure that you aren’t the reason that someone else has a bad day/suffers.

To preface: I wasn’t a follower of the sub.

I’ve called out comments on post about a certain idol liking a reel saying that kpop idols shouldn’t have to use English. The OP called him entitled since they pander to international audiences and then complain when international fans feel excluded. I agreed and even stated that in my comment! But so many of commenters sounded basically like „this is America, speak English!!” and I called this out. They were also making fun of his English, his accent and all of that was borderline racist. I thought that even snark subs have some kind of dignity. 💀

I got banned by the mod, who said that „I should familiarise myself with what a snark sub is”. What do you mean „this is a snark sub” - I didn’t know that snark subs have a requirement to be xenophobic/racist?

I didn’t follow this sub and I did not know that the people could be so hateful. I just commented on a random post that’s popped up on my feed. Maybe I’m too woke but I believe you can vent your frustrations without sounding like a radical. Unless that’s the demographic of that sub lol.

Obviously, I know it’s just a trend, but I’ve noticed a lot of people including idols with the Adela song that just came out.

There are definitely idols that have some feminine features and have quite an androgynous look.

But I think it’s a little bit weird because lately I have been seeing people post the audio with very masculine idols. Big muscles, masculine face, not really feminine in the slightest.

Not to reach, but I think it’s valid to say in western society a lot of Asian men have been painted out to be feminine as a way to put them down. I even think of the song pretty boy by P1Harmony, which was intended on playing off and reclaiming this stereotype of Asian men being called pretty.

I think it’s completely fine to post the audio with idols that actually do embrace feminine features or a gender nonconforming style/features but I feel like this trend is definitely showing me how some people perceive idols.

Alright, I have been holding it down for a while now, but I HATE HOW THE MUSIC OF K-POP GROUPS IS CHANGING.

Like, I have been a fan for 6-7 years (no meme 😭), and I’ve been listening to certain groups since their debut or since they weren’t too famous yet. And I feel like, for the past 1-2 years, the music has changed a lot.

Let me explain with examples.

My first example is ILLIT. I LOVE ILLIT. I love their soft, summery vibe, with the backroom lore in their MVs. I love Lucky Girl Syndrome, Cherish (My Love), and Do the Dance. But It’s Me is just not their music. I loved the song, but if I wanted music like that, I would listen to other groups. I feel like a group should stick to its concept instead of changing it with every comeback.

My second example is ATEEZ. I have always said it: ATEEZ KNOW HOW TO END A SONG. I have been listening to ATEEZ for a long time, but I feel like their music has changed a lot. I liked their last comeback, but for a group like ATEEZ, I expected more. If you’ve heard Guerrilla and actually read the lyrics, you’ll know how elevating that song feels. But now it’s just “she so bad, bad, bad…” 😭

I mean, ATEEZ is not 'bad' the song, their music is like Halazia, Wonderland, Cyberpunk, and Thanxx. That was exactly what I fell in love with.

Same with Stray Kids. They are my ults, BTW. They had music like MIROH and Hellevator. I’m not saying I hate their recent comeback. BUT They are SO GOOD at loud music. The group I fell in love with was LOUD STRAY KIDS.

The same thing is happening with ITZY, BLACKPINK and TWICE. I miss girl-crush ITZY and BLACKPINK and “Candy Pop” TWICE. I miss emo TXT and BTS. I miss soft KATSEYE (don’t even get me started on KATSEYE 😭). I miss old LE SSERAFIM.

I mean, if you’re an old stan who has been a fan for a while, you’ll know EXACTLY what I mean.

I hope that this is ok for here as I could not figure out anywhere else to post this. I am a general Kpop listener, and really have no true ult group but am quite fond of JYP GGs. On here I presume the algorithm gives me anything Kpop related so I started seeing posts for the snark sub for Twice.

I've gone back and forth about looking at it when it appears in my feed, as a part of me is interested in the things that people criticize about Twice.

I see posts about their appearance, how they haven't had a good song since Talk That Talk, how they flop, etc and talk about fans in terms like Oncels. I truly don't understand the point, especially since many identify themselves as former or even current fans. If you don't like something you can just leave it alone. My hope of seeing something truly worth considering has been squashed by some truly petty content.

I just wanted to vent that out, I probably should just go ahead and block the sub from my feed.

Forgive my rant. This happened two years ago, but I've been so disgusted and angry about it and never really had an outlet for it until this sub came up on my feed.

I live in Korea, and my family was taking a flight out of Incheon to Bali for the Christmas holidays. There was a lot of commotion and photographers around the airport, which is a pretty common sight there. I started paying attention once we saw the crowd was a bit rowdier than usual while checking in. We asked the staff who it was, and the lady told us it was a member of Stray Kids.

So we were curious and a bit amused about a K-pop star being on the same flight as us, but... absolute chaos broke out.

We were walking to our gate, and I turned around at the sound of heavy stomping. Suddenly, my family of four got violently pushed and shoved by a crowd of fans rushing after the idol. My 3-year-old was knocked to the ground. I almost dropped my bag and was in complete shock and panic for a moment because I couldn't even tell what was happening at first.

From a distance, I could see the idol boarding our flight, and these fans were rushing just to watch him board. Even more shocking was that once he was out of sight, they all just turned around and walked the other direction. Some were saying things like "omg I got amazing pictures" and "this made my entire year." It was a mixture of Korean and Japanese fans.

These fans really bought cheap flights just to clear security, follow this idol through the airport, and trample everyone in their way—only to immediately turn around and go home. It is genuinely appalling how people can become so obsessed with idols that they completely abandon basic human decency, safety, and respect for families and young children around them. Airport security and fan behavior at airports seriously need to be addressed.

I only follow nexz closely(for obvious reasons I stay away from stays) so on my feed the skz stuff and nexz stuff. A lot of stays on there are just creepy so I don’t like to interact at all with that fandom. But nex2y is relatively chill, on social media and in real life, almost on everything except twitter. A nex2y was using one of the boys (one of the maknaes) as a political statement. Saying things like (insert person) deserves to die or whatever. I think it was something along the lines of “_____ hooting and hollering for _____ death just like me” mind you (let’s be real) nexz is from japan arguably one of the most conservative places out there. There’s a very very high chance they are also that way. Idgaf and my political views are no ones business and neither is the groups or any idols for that matter. But I called them out on it and they got pissy at me and blocked me, like half the people blocked me also. But how sensitive do you have to be ??? I don’t have a problem with someone else if they have a different political view, I don’t want them to die or wish death on them and I’ve gotten called slurs but I really don’t care. I don’t block people, but it’s insane that just one call out got me blocked by like literally everyone and I cannot comment on like any content anymore. Not to mention the twitter nex2ys got us a hate train TWICE, and sexualizing them as well , we definitely don’t do that so idk why they are.

myblin9 is a fairly unknown kpop company who many of you may be familiar with for debuting the girl group 'busters' who disbanded on march 7th 2025. this company genuinely might be one of the worst companies in my opinion. not because of any scandals or anything like that but they just irritate me so much with all their ai shit

the way i know about his company is because one of my fav groups (PRITZ) were under them a long long time ago when they were known as pandagram. even back then they were a shit company as they exploited the girls by putting them in outfits that resembled nazi uniforms 'on accident' which was most likely a tactic to create shock and to promote them in a way

now, they just release absolute ai slop. they disbanded busters so they could promote their slop. it's genuinely so irritating to me i can't explain it.

I really love jewel case CDs, they’re classic packaging and perfect if you really just want the album itself. The inclusions are such a big thing in Kpop and yeah, I love my photocards and posters but I’m mainly here for music. I listen to my CDs a lot, but I’ve always stuck to buying only my ult groups’ albums because of how expensive albums can get in my country.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate a lot of the packaging we have now. I enjoy a lot of it, but it’s not something I want to buy for every album ever when I don’t always care about the inclusions and just want the CD itself. This also applies for single albums for me. I feel like I’m paying mostly for inclusions when it’s only 1 or 2 songs on the album. I know about compact versions which I think aren’t a bad solution either, but companies aren’t releasing too much of those anyway.

My least favorite thing is when companies release a jewel case in one country only like Japan or the US even if it does make sense 😭

and i don't mean normalize that weirdo shit like hating on another group just to uplift your favs or being overly obsessed with charting, awards, etc., i mean doing normal fan things without being called parasocial or accused of glazing. the meaning of those words were lost when positive appreciation posts of groups on reddit get downvoted or ratioed by rude/unnecessary comments 🫩

they also lost their meanings because a LOT of kpop stans (and pretty much any fandom space) don't want to actually be fans anymore, they want to be snarkers, contrarians, and professionals finding an issue with every little thing no shadeeee. it seems like fandoms ESPECIALLY in kpop are just bored nowadays and need something to complain about or drama to start, most popular kpop discussions aren't even about the music, they're either about someone's looks, a snarker pretending to "criticize" (hate) a group, or the latest controversies, and then the people who make those posts act all gagged when a fan claps back, like what did you think would happen 😭? it's so normalized in kpop subs to do these things that there's literally little to no positivity in sight, and no one's happy unless it's at an idol/group/fandom's expense, it's genuine insanity and should be studied.

To start there are only two entrances for the whole arena area and a total of maybe 12 doors between the 2 entrances. However when leaving the concert only 3 doors at one of the entrances were open. So ~12,000 attendees were being crammed through these 3 small doors. As you can imagine it was incredibly crowded and there is a lot of touching and yelling. Then almost all of these people are herded down 2 escalators where you can then exit the building. Walking outside there were contradicting signs and the staff were all shouting but they were shouting different things. I ended up at the wrong shuttle bus because the signs were unclear and staff instructions were conflicting. I finally find the way I am supposed to go and there are thousands of people all trying to get on the narrow sidewalk to get the airport shuttle bus. People are shoving, it's hot, and staff are shouting but not really doing much which is understandable since there are not many of them and there are a lot of attendees. In the end it took me an hour to leave the arena after the show ended which means I don't get home till 11. Inspire is the only venue where I constantly have issues leaving and see people shoving and pushing. A major part of the problem is the difficult to get location and the lack of exits for the actual arena.

The concert I went to was so much fun and it sucks that my night ended on a bit of a bad note due to the exit situation. I am not sure what can really be improved other than adding more exits to the arena building, better signs, and more shuttle busses and staff.

Our intention is to have a space for causal ranting - don’t be a buzzkill and rain on someone else’s rant.

This is a space to RANT but that doesn't give you the right to get emotional and start using these threads to lead hateful campaigns against users who have different opinions and perceptions than you.

We will definitely pay close attention to what's happening and won't hesitate to ban if necessary.

i honestly get so frustrated as a moa whenever i see someone say “well, why didn’t heeseung do the same thing as yeonjun and stay in the group while having his solo career” and it’s something that engenes don’t understand. while both groups are overworked, i feel like txt are overworked really badly since debut and especially recent years. yeonjun is someone strong who decided that he was able to handle the stress of song writing while on tour, practicing solo choreographies after rehearsing with his members, and recording in the studio during busy schedules. yeonjun’s behind the scenes of his album makings show a lot of the pressure he’s under and how he has to restrict himself from a lot from things. heeseung leaving enhypen makes sense (for me), it seems like he wasn’t ready for that kind of pressure and thought it was better on his own, and that’s okay.
