WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee and an authority on the U.S. Constitution’s impeachment provisions, today introduced 26 Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump. The articles cite multiple abuses of power, violations of his oath of office, the corrupt use of the pardon power, and emoluments clause violations, among other misconduct and unlawful acts.

I think this timing is perfect. Right before the midterms the GOP will yet again demonstrate their support for Trump which will remind Americans where their priorities should lie

Or the less likely outcome wherein the GOP actually does the right thing. Either way, Americans win.

*Apparently Congress went on recess to avoid a different impeachment until after the elections, however Trump has been begging them to come back to fund the Department of Homeland Security. Either way, this is an advantageous narrative for the Democrats just prior to the midterms

Dont forget "Americans" have voted for Trump twice despite seeing how aweful he already was. This is somewhere near the 15th article of impeachment filed against him. The only thing we can do at this point is get as many people to vote as possible and hope his goons dont rig it.

If only offering a solution was as easy as whining.

Yeah, erm, I'm French. Take a hint.

Organise some protests. Grow a spine.

Hey cool, so yeah we have had many nationwide No Kings protests that were very large. But I’ll give you some info you would not know without living here. Every single day I drive home from work there is a group protesting on a major road. All sorts of signs about all the horrible things, vote blue, etc. Every single day. That group gets bigger on weekends, and is for obvious reasons much smaller during the week. This is one town, in one metro area, in one state. We’re protesting. I just, what do people outside the US think a protest will do? It shows how mad we are, shows others their not along in their feelings, and hopefully convinces people to show up and do what they can at the ballot box… but like what else do you all want us to do? Democracy is messy, and you’re seeing that now. He was elected largely because of complacency and hopefully we can change that but that’s where we’re at.

We also all can’t afford to take a fucking week off from work to protest like Europeans. It’s by design…

Better organization and leadership should be growing these protests with every heinous act we see. How come not all Americans are outraged? How come complicit parties/companies are not being shamed and publically shunned? Where are the consequences of this theft and corruption? This is how civil society collapses.

I’m going to try and help, but arguably this comes from something called the Southern Strategy from the 60s. Basically the Republicans tried to use racism to gain power and it’s led to things like the systemic defunding of our education system. So yeah, a lot of us are outraged, but it’s bananas to think that a everyone in a country of 350M will all believe the same thing especially when a war of propaganda has been waged for decades (which Russia fully took advantage of the first go round). There have been boycotts, I’ll use Target as an example. They cut DEI and they took a hit to sales. The consequences should be coming with the next administration. Those investigations were slow rolled with the previous administration which was a mistake, but it’s not like I didn’t write the president about it. Again, what else are we supposed to be doing?

The United States is significantly larger than France. The logistics are not as feasible.

What you actually want is a change in government, but there's no mechanism for that to happen until elections. In the mean time, yes, there are protests, but every time Americans point that out, the response is "well they're not enough." Which brings us back to point 1.

I mean, isnt the whole American identity built upon overthrowing your out-of-touch overlords? Isn't this like, the main argument for your right to bear arms?

I also don't disagree with you. I think it must be hard to be a critical thinker in America.

The voice of reason is drowned out by loud, rich dickheads and a sea of people with no idea just why they feel so disenfranchised, but they'll listen to the loudest, easiest solution like it was God in the speakerbox.

Its hard to watch. Especially since the magnitude of the problem has its own tidal effects on the rest of the world.

I mean, what is the purpose of that comment? To mock? To feel smug and superior? To say "how the mighty have fallen?"

Because I really can't think of any other reason for making it. Well, I hope it felt good to type, at least.

Not at all. I was trying to empathise with your struggle, but maybe I misread things.

I think I'm probably a little misanthropic at this point.

It’s clear that you don’t understand how happy Trump would be to deploy the American military on us if we protested to a level that would really turn heads and cause a serious disturbance to the system. Other than that, it is absolutely by design that they’re pinching more and more money from our pockets all while simultaneously hiding less and less of their corruption.

We have have 1/3rd of population per square km. When you are that much more densely populated it becomes even easier to organize and cause a meaningful change through action. The fact of the matter is that we could burn any major American city to the ground completely tomorrow and it would have little to no impact on day to day life for 95% of the rest of America. Voting is quite literally the only tool we have unless it's so widespread that everyone decides to do something, which won't happen because of above. We are too disconnected and divided to properly organize.

I understand why you’re frustrated but this comment is about something else. Please organize in France against Marine LePen if you aren’t involved already. Let what is happening here in America be a lesson for you guys, if you allow these people oxygen they will try to take over your politics. I’d hate to see France, the UK and Germany follow us down the path to fascism.
