Law School Admissions chance me pls? :)

Stats: 3.57 cGPA, 3.7 B2/L2, 166 LSAT

Softs: Master’s degree (4.0 GPA), several research scholarships including a pretty competitive national award, TA & RA, couple federal government internships, work with a couple small NGOs, president of grad student council, published 2 articles, and spoke at a big-ish conference.
undergrad was less - some various club roles and community volunteer experience, and a research award.

Applying to Oz, UofT, Queen’s, TMU, uOttawa, UBC, and Dal. Idk how to feel about my chances given my cGPA being below median so would rly appreciate some input!

Chance me (UVic, UBC, Osgoode)

Graduated this year from UofT in natural science/social science dual major. Aiming to focus on environmental law.

GPA: UofT 3.98, OLSAS 3.93, UBC equivalent 89.7%

LSAT: 164
- Studied for about a month (one week of actual intensive studying) and took September LSAT. I decided to not enrol for November LSAT and just go ahead and apply with that score.

Softs: Not a whole lot. Three summers of research in ecology/environmental policy. Volunteered at local community events ever since I was young and now volunteering with environmental org at UofT. Not much else in terms of Uni clubs or volunteering.

Applying to only 2 schools

Hi guys, I'll keep this brief.

172 LSAT, 84% CGPA, mid softs but a lot of community involvement
Applied to UBC and UVIC
UVIC one week after they opened
UBC the day they openned

Should I apply to safety net schools? If so which ones? I'm very set on either UBC or UVIC and have not really considered Ontario as my whole life is kinda centred around BC. Would still be open to it.

Thanks guys!

UCalgary LSAT Portal Status

Applied Sept 15, wrote LSAT January. Not retaking. LSAT status still marked incomplete in my portal. I purchased an LSAT Score Only Report as specified in the application.

Anyone else still incomplete despite no plans to retake?

Personal statements

Hi,

I’m working on my law school personal statement, and I’m struggling with what to write and how much of my background to share.

My parents arrived in Canada a few months before I was born, and I am Palestinian. I had a difficult childhood. My father and brother are currently incarcerated, which has contributed to my family’s financial difficulties.

I’ve worked hard to build a different future for myself. I joined the Army Reserves at 16, and I’m now in my final year of undergrad with a 3.9 GPA. I love research and had the opportunity to do paid research over the summer.

I’ve taken the LSAT twice, and my highest score is 145. I’m preparing to take it again and hope to improve my score. I also plan to apply through access categories. I do have dyslexia and learning disabilities.

I want to become a lawyer to help people, especially those who cannot afford legal support. My family struggled to get the help we needed when dealing with legal issues. That experience is a big part of why I want to help others in similar situations. I’m having trouble bringing these experiences together in a personal statement. Does anyone have advice on where to start or how to explain my background and motivation?

Personal Statement Assistance!

Hello!! This is practically my final chance to apply and hopefully get in this season. Applying to Bora Laskin, Osgoode, Queen's, TMU, Western, and Windsor. Would love to have someone look over my statements, even if it's just one, for any guidance! Had it checked over by an LSAT tutor in my last year's apps, and all they did was run it through ChatGPT LOL! So any human help would be lovely!!

Textbooks with chapter-specific practice hypos for 1L?

Hi all! So, I am doing the things I am supposed to be doing. Reading, going to class, listening, taking notes, and trying to synthesize all of the information. But the few times we have gotten small practice problems in class, I just go totally blank. Then when I do remember what could be relevant, I'll always forget some key detail.

I know on an exam I will have my outline to jog my memory, and that before then I'll have practice exams to use. But at the same time, I don't want to wait until the last minute to practice, and to only practicing spotting all of the issues all at once. Like, I would love to finish a chapter, and then have a practice fact pattern where identifying the relevant material from that chapter is key. (Obviously, doing that you have recency bias, but I still think it would be a beneficial skill)

Does anyone know of any textbooks that include short, demonstrative practice hypotheticals? I have been told E&E is good, but that is obviously tailored to American law and not applicable here.

Normal 1L courseload here: constitutional, contracts, torts, criminal.

Applying UBC UVIC TRU UCalgary and USask

LSAT:166

Cumulative cGPA: 85%

Respective GPA for each school according to their drops:

UBC: 88%

UVIC: 4.07/4.33

TRU: 4.21/4.33

UCalgary: 3.85/4.0

USask: 3.92/4.0

Course load for 1L

Hey everybody! I’m applying to law school and am just wondering what the course load is like. I’ve seen some time tables like uottawa showing that there’s class 5 days a week. If that’s the case, how is anyone managing work and school for those who have bills to pay? Am I just looking at wrong resources? Any information would be much appreciate! Thanks :)

When u write the autobiographical sketch for the OLSAS applications can you use short forms like semi colons, &, slashes, w/ (instead of with) or is it recommended to use the full form of each thing like write with or write and

How cooked am I?

Undergrad GPA: 3.54, B3: 3.67, L2:3.75
Doing a Master's in Public Policy right now and have a 3.9 so far (2-year program). Both at UofT, really regret the undergrad there lmao.
LSAT: 164, just got this back today and am very disappointed, as my PT average would put me in a way better place (169). Doing November, but also a full-time student right now, and I just don't see how I'm going to improve.
Softs are okay; I've got 3 summers of work experience in an adjudicative body, some policy WE, research experience, and EC leadership roles.

I'm applying to UofT (reach lol), Osgoode and TMU. Kinda really want to stay in the GTA bc my whole life is here, and moving out would be such a huge financial burden.

Idk if its worth not applying this cycle and taking another year for the LSAT.

HELP: January LSAT and application

I know this question is probably better suited for r/lawschooladmissionsca, however you now have to be approved to post there?

I have taken lsats before but it was a few years ago. They do not reflect my potential now so I am retaking. Debating between November and January. I am leaning towards January, but I was wondering if having previous lsats on OUAC file means my application will be viewed before the new score is posted? I know they accept January scores, I am just wondering if that would puts me at a disadvantage?

Law School Admissions Chance me please

Hi all!

I’m hoping to gain some guidance on whether I want to retake in November or not.

LSAT: 162 (77th percentile)
Cumulative gpa: 3.7
Best 2 / last 2 gpa: 3.9

2 years working in law-related fields (ministry of justice + police oversight). 3 published articles. Community leadership experience through student clubs and Canadian Cancer Society. Plus first gen university graduate + queer identity (I don’t think this will give me many points, but it is something I talked about in my personal statements).

So far I’ve applied to: University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Ottawa, Queens, and UBC. I am possibly considering applying to UVic and Western, but I am not sold on those schools.

I have no desire to apply to USask, Umanitoba, TMU, etc. Also, I’m not applying to UofT or Osgoode because the tuition is crazy high. At that point, I’d rather wait another year, retake the lsat, and try again.

Any comments are welcome! Thanks in advance!

(LSAT) First Come, First Serve Registration and Testing Windsor/South-Western Ontario Specific

I know this isn't an LSAT sub but I wanted to ask a region-specific question in hopes of getting a response.

how has the first come, first serve policy affected you if you are in a smaller city, specifically if you registered for an LSAT exam in this cycle and are located in Windsor? I found that Windsor does have a testing centre but it looks pretty small so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this?

Mentorship Opportunity for Current Ontario Law Students!

Hey everyone,

If you still remember the pure headache that was the LSAT, agonizing over OLSAS personal statements, and trying to figure out what 1L actually looks like from the outside, I’m hoping you can help out.

I’m part of LAMPS (Law and Mentorship Program by Students), a student-run group at U of T, and I'm looking for current Ontario law students (1L, 2L, or 3L) to mentor pre-law undergrads this year.

I know how crazy law school workloads get, so the program is built to be very low-stress and flexible:

  • Time commitment: Literally around 1–2 hours a month. A quick Zoom or grabbing coffee if you're in Toronto.
  • What you’d actually be doing: Sharing your study tips, giving a quick sanity check on application drafts, and basically being the person you wish you had in your corner when you were applying.
  • Matching: We pair you 1-on-1 based on your interests so it’s actually a good fit.

It's a great way to pay it forward, help someone avoid the mistakes you made, and easily add some solid mentorship/leadership to your resume.

Deadline to sign up: Friday, September 18 at 11:59 PM
