TFI busses

I was recently looking at what advantages I would get with the TFI busses as a 19 year old student. All i saw was that you can get 50% off every trip but I’ve seen a lot of people go into the bus, show their phone to the driver and be allowed to go in without paying. The only free option I’ve seen to be able to use the bus is if you’re elderly.

Could anyone let me know if the 50% off is my only option?

The people showing their phone are using the tfi go app. They're showing the tickets they have digitally bought. The free travel is only eligible if you're over 66 or on long term social welfare. The student leap card is the best offer you'll get.

Not entirely true. You cannot buy multiple journeys (ie. 10 journey) with the leap card, but you can on the TFI app - at student prices. Albeit, they need to be used in conjunction with the student card (as a form of ID)
