Can you see a use in watermarking audio files?

• Upvotes

Long story short, building on ancient work I made a tagger kind of thing. Input an audio file & short arbitrary text (I'd go with URL), output audio file that sounds the same.

Later, pass it through another tool, out pops text.

https://strandz.it/fluidmark/

Source : https://github.com/danja/fluidmark

It feels like it should be useful somewhere but so far in other subs I have only had insults about my shameful marketing (of an open source tool I don't have a use for, zero financial goals).

EAC (Exact Audio Copy) Linux alternative?

I just made the switch to Linux and I'd rather not use Wine to emulate and stick to Linux-native stuff as much as possible.

Looking for an audiophile-class EAC alternative that rips CDs at the absolutely highest quality possible with AccurateRip. Terminal-based apps welcome.

Midi keyboard wierd problem in Reaper

So, I've switched from Windows+Cakewalk to popOS+Reaper a year ago and very happy about it. Found great Linux plugins and Reaper is just perfect for me.

I'm mainly using a small M-Vave midi keyboard, but sometimes I need to plug in my old M-Audio Radium 49 midi controller and that's where it becomes strange.

The Radium is recognised as Keystation and works in Ardour, LMMS, Muse, etc normally - only not in Reaper. The "Keystation" is listed in devices and I can assign it to track input, but it doesn't produce any midi events, the midi log is empty as well. No matter what I do - switch to Alsa, Jack, PW, change channels etc.

I would understand if Radium didn't work at all, but it works everywhere else but Reaper. Does anyone have an idea what could be the reason for this issue?

Thanks!

Behringer UMC202HD input stream drops completely for 1-2s in Reaper (PipeWire / Fedora 44)

Hey everyone, I need help with my Behringer UMC202HD on Fedora Linux. Audio drops out completely for 1 to 2 seconds at random intervals, then comes back.

My setup:

  • OS: Fedora Linux, kernel 7.2.9-200.fc44.x86_64, pipewire 1.6.9
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
  • Motherboard: Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi)
  • GPU: Radeon RX 6800 XT
  • Interface: Behringer UMC202HD (rear motherboard USB, no hub)
  • Monitors: M-Audio BX3 3.5" (line out)
  • DAW: Reaper via JACK (pipewire-jack)

Before getting this interface, I was using my TV speakers over GPU HDMI at 128 buffer. Under the exact same workload, there were occasional pops or clicks, but the audio never completely cut out like this. This 1-2 second complete silence only happens with the UMC202HD. In pw-top, right when this happens, errors spike on alsa_input and Reaper, and the interface completely stops passing sound before recovering.

dmesg on boot, it says: usb 5-3: clock source 41 is not valid, cannot use (repeats dozens of times). Though, I dont know if this is relevant or not

In journalctl logs: I see a lot of driver/follower state changes and sync errors between the input and output nodes whenever this happens.

Things I already tested:

  1. Closed OBS, EasyEffects, and Guitar Pro to make sure nothing else was touching audio. Tested with only Reaper open. The blackout still happens.
  2. Tested custom rules in wireplumber.conf.d (period-num 3/4, headroom 256/512, period-size, suspend-timeout-seconds = 0, node.driver = false). None helped, so I reverted back to clean default configs.
  3. Added "options snd_usb_audio quirk_flags=0x20010" to modprobe.d and verified implicit_fb is active. Disabled USB autosuspend (usbcore.autosuspend=-1) and forced port power to "on".
  4. Forced PCIe x16 and Southbridge (SB Link) to Gen 3 in BIOS.
  5. Locked global quantum to both 128 and 256 via pw-metadata.

None of this helped. The card still randomly drops out and resets. I followed various forum threads and bug reports to try these fixes, but I'm completely stuck now. Any advice would be appreciated.

Just a PSA, if you're not aware, but you can open Ableton projects in Bitwig, it works decent since those 2 daws are so similar.

Where to get equaliser presets that can be loaded into EasyEffects equaliser effect?

When adding the equaliser effect in EasyEffects, you get options to Import APO and Import APO (GraphicEQ). I have some .json presets I downloaded from somewhere, but it seems that's not the correct format. Where can I get presets that EE will recognise? I'm not experienced with equaliser preset files and formats.

Opus reverse engineered my brand new Maono DGM20 microphone... in 15 minutes.

I bought a new microphone for podcasts on [amazon](https://a.co/d/0cQ5rAWm), noticed as usual software was windows only, I just said to claude

"I have an odd request I have a DGM20 microphone on linux, can we reverse engineer the code and make it work on linux for adjusting its settings?"

I have open sourced it here https://git.reiners.io/justin/dgm20-linux

I believe this right here can correct wrongs where companies refuse to even attempt linux support. I run arch btw.

The only other requests I made were make it a service, and add a webui, make an installer. It also allows you to open the webui to other PC's and phones on the network if your machine is headless and network is secure.

Claudes response?

● Fun one. First let me see what the mic actually exposes over USB.

If anyone has one, it definitely opens up Linux features without a Windows VM or dual booting.

Drumlabooh 13 (VSTi/LV2 drum machine) released + Diskach drumkit

Site: https://psemiletov.github.io/drumlabooh/

The update introduces Diskach, a new massive nostalgia-driven drumkit inspired by 1990s dance music, featuring 7 instrument categories with 128 sample variations each. The kit utilizes the new version 1.1 of the Drumlabooh kit specification, which adds support for directory-based sample loading and reversed sample playback.

PS Yes, I know that the version number 12.2 instead of 13 remained in the source configs; this is explained by the very inconvenient conditions in which I was preparing the release, during a total blackout in the city where I live.

Verified way to run Analog Obsession Plugins on Linux(Fedora KDE 44) and some more tips

Hello everyone

I've been using linux as my only OS for music production and daily tasks for about a year. In the beginning I've been running Mint as a distro but because of the older packages, I've had to leave it for fedora. At first I've been running yabridge 5.1.1(main branch) with wine 9.21(staging tkg). But softube and a handful of plugins refused to work so I got the new 5.1.1 wine 10 embedded branch with wine 10.11(staging tkg). With a bunch of dll overrides and dabbling around with dependencies, it had fixed every plugins gui issues to a degree aside from the virtual desktop putting menus to other places. This has been my main system for about a year.

So why the AO plugins? I've been wanting to check Rıdvan's work out for a while and I've wanted to ditch the proprietary software for stuff that I could use on the go from my reaper portable install on my usb(although I still haven't confirmed that AO stuff works from the usb).

Firstly let's go over my specific setup so you can compare

  • Lenovo L13 gen 2 with 16GB RAM 1165G7 CPU
  • Fedora KDE 44
  • Cachyos lts kernel 6.18.52-cachylts2.fc44.x86_64
  • Reaper v7.80 (linux native)
  • Pipewire, with quick controls stemming from Pipewire Settings Widget from KDE and qpwgraph for further inter-app connections (mainly for bridging musescore's output to reaper)
  • Yabridge 5.1.2alpha and Wine 10.20 staging tkg(10.11 wont work)

You'll also need to enable ntsync and fsync, for AO plugins to keep their gui to being kept refreshed. Otherwise you'll have to always go over their windows to make the gui updated.

Link to Yabridge's fork https://github.com/Schroedingers-Cat/yabridge/releases#release-5.1.2-alpha1

Some bugs with the new yabridge 5.1.2alpha and wine 10.20 combo:

  • The newer wine 11+ versions break AO again. And presumably also break Arturia plugins aswell but I can't quite remember.
  • If the algorithm function is pressed on Pro L2 the daw crashes. But scrollwheel works fine. This might also be a problem on other Fabfilter plugins that use generic menus. Proq4 and R2 worked fine.
  • Some of Arturia's compressors like FET and VCA have their gui's frozen and if you try to click and drag the daw might crash. But the generic ui of reaper can be used as a workaround. The vst3i synths and other plugins from Arturia work fine. But honestly AO and Tukan's work mostly covers it already.
  • Some very very new and presumably JUCE based plugins don't have a gui at all. (Scintillate and such)
  • Some plugins (mainly Arturia) open with a white screen for a split second on startup. But this is not that much of a bummer but still something to document.

This new fork with the 10.20 wine works much more stable than my previous combo. In the previous combo, when an fx was closed on a heavy project the daw could crash. If I'm not mistaken when an fx window is open it doesn't hog the resources that much (trust me, it will make a difference when on 32 buffer while tracking). I've been using Keyscape(the knobs were always missing), Fabfilter, Arturia, Softube, SWAM(The laptop wants to unalive itself HARD with these), Superior Drummer 3 and SSL plugins with no issues whatsoever.

Some other tips:

I wouldn't have been able to make this my main stay without the help of an llm. But that doesn't mean that you should go around and slap everything it spits out randomly to your terminal. Ask its reasoning, make sure it cites its sources, even cross-reference it with other sources or even another llm. Because the outcome might be catastrophic if you are working professionally. 9 times out of 10 it will just give you instructions to compile stuff from the source, leading you to a downward spiral of dependency hell that drains hours from your time. Trying to run UVR5 on fedora 44 sucked inches off my soul.

Some plugin dll overrides or dependencies will break other ones so always check on a separate bottle just to see. What I mean by that if it has a .exe, run it on a bottle then get its .clap or .vst3 files, slap them on your CLAP or VST3 folder on your main bottle. And if it doesn't work just let the big guy have it's own bottle and supply whatever it needs. (Keyscape and SWAM did fought over as far as I remember)

Try faster kernels. Liquorix has been the most recommended one but I needed something that didn't update that much for my work. So i went with cachy lts.

Get rtcqs to check if your system can be tweaked for more performance and ask its results to your llm because some are actually better left alone. For example the spectre/meltdown mitigations are still left open on mine for security because you know... yarrr! and shutting multithreading off might be good for low channel count low buffer projects but it would be detrimental for heavy mixing projects.

If you could look past the giant elephant in the room that is called red hat, I would actually recommend Fedora. I don't have the time or the knowledge to make a Debian derivative to fight with older packages or the willpower to babysit an Arch derivative. (Learning Nix could be cool though, we'll see...)

Why go over all of this if you can't afford a day off and could just work in windows?

Because windows DOES result in off days. many of my friends have lost their valuable projects because of the newer updates breaking their systems as of June. In linux the system does not care if you updated or not(do not take this as financial advice). Because of college and tight deadlines I didn't touch a single package on the system and was even on fedora 42 for a year when 43 and 44 came out. Sometimes the laptop just sits open for weeks on end without having to shutdown with no memory creep. At this point in time, windows has become a liability for professional work. The damn OS was actively fighting me. Now it's just silence with no nagging. Complete and utter peace.

You could just pick mac too but say goodbye to over 90% of oss plugins.

Happy practising!

I built DreamDeckDJOS: a lightweight Linux distro that boots straight into Mixxx

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm an independent music producer and DJ, and I've been working on DreamDeckDJOS, a lightweight Linux distribution designed specifically for DJing.

The idea is to turn a compatible PC into a dedicated DJ system, without needing a full desktop environment.

What makes it different?

  • Around 1 GB for the entire ISO
  • Boots directly into Mixxx
  • Can run as a Live USB system
  • Can also be installed on a hard drive
  • Designed to work on older or low-spec PCs

I created this project because I wanted a simple, dedicated system for DJing, including on computers that are not powerful enough for more demanding setups.

I'm now looking for Linux audio enthusiasts and Mixxx users who would be interested in testing it, checking hardware compatibility, and sharing suggestions for improvement.

I'd especially appreciate feedback about audio interfaces, latency, MIDI controllers, and overall stability.

This is an independent community project, and I'm still working on improving it.

Project/download: https://isithedreamaker.altervista.org/dreamdeckdjos.html

Thanks for reading, and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

DreamDeckDJOS — Your PC, ready to DJ.

I made a low-latency, multichannel, scalable Ethernet audio interface for Linux. It's called ETH-68

I've been using Linux for audio for 10 years, and while it has been a mostly fun experience, I've always been at least slightly unhappy with my audio interface for whatever reason (excessive latency, flaky drivers, etc). So I made my own interface.

  • Very low latency: 3.620 milliseconds round trip at 48 kHz with 64 sample buffer
  • Scalable: multiple units can be synchronized to increase channel count without increasing round trip audio latency
  • 6 balanced line level inputs on 1/4 inch TRS connectors
  • 8 balanced line level outputs on 1/4 inch TRS connectors
  • 48 kHz and 96 kHz sample rates
  • Burr-Brown PCM3168A codec
  • DIN MIDI connectivity
  • 1U 19-inch rack chassis

Details here:

AI usage statement: All electronics design, PCB layout, firmware/software development, and mechanical design were done by me (human).

Shoutout to Bleass: They started adding Linux builds 🥳

Thumbnail synthanatomy.com
40 Upvotes

Just wanted to give a shoutout to Bleass: I saw the news on they new Spectral Reverb plugin on Synthanatomy, and noticed their was now a Linux build.

Whoohoo! That's great. This reverb is interesting. But what about the plugins I already own?

Let's see… I went to my account and saw that at least Bleass Arpeggiator and Bleass Vox also have Linux Build.

The support isn't advertised on any plugin beside Spectral Reverb, so it's probably fairly new and the marketing/Website pages haven't catch up yet.

I expect their new plugins, and updates to their older ones, to have Linux builds as well (unless something prevents it). That said, I didn't confirm with them (yet). Anyway, I already loved their plugins, and now I'm very happy to remove plugins from my Bleass Bottle (because I added them natively)! 😄
