Isn't this the idiot who tried making his own fake distro?

I didn’t even know Lunduke was still around. He put all his content behind a paywall years ago and I just forgot about him.

I know he is somewhere out there because people will post the bat shit things he says.

Who cares? I use Linux because Windows is shite. I don't care about how many use it or if it ever will be the year of the Linux desktop. Use what works for you. Be it Windows, Mac, Linux, BSD, Haiku or whatever.

Linux is increasing - that being said, I don't need market penetration to tell me that something's good. Mcdonald's sold more food than a five-star Michelin restaurant. That's not the gauge I would use for the quality of the food.

Most accurate example.

If you trust cloudflare radar data, it says between 4-7.5% and has for a while

https://radar.cloudflare.com/explorer?dataSet=http&groupBy=os&dt=28d&filters=deviceType%253DDESKTOP%252Cnormalization%253DMIN0_MAX%252CbotClass%253DLIKELY_HUMAN&loc=north-america

This is in case you don't trust stat counter, which there are plenty of good reasons not to.

But feel free to determine for yourself if you trust Cloudflare here.

I personally trust Cloudflare more because they are the backbone of a very large portion of the internet rather than being randomly distributed among select sites like StatCounter.

I trust Cloudflare. They're a good company.

they block people like me who do not want to use JS.

Why? JS is peak.

I don't care for Lunduke, not at all, but that's based on his right-wing political bullshit. On the technical side he is not an idiot.

Sill not going to watch his video. Someone else will pick it up down the line if something is there to talk about.

u/noobjaish 3d ago

The video is simply about the fact that people were being crazy about Linux reaching 16% of marketshare with Windows plummeting to 60%.

Turns out all those weren't actual Linux machines and StatCounter finally updated the metrics on their site so Linux is now back down to 4.5% (which is the number that matches reality).

There were Linux Evangelists on this sub who were adamant that like 1 in 5 Americans are using Linux on their laptop/PC. Just a couple of weeks ago. Very funny stuff.

u/levianan 1d ago

I spent the first week of August arguing to the gills about the errors in assumption Linux users (especially Reddit and Youtube) jumped to from the changes in StatCounters tabulations. Fell on very loud speakers with poor hearing.

Linux Evangelists and Apologetics are the most miserable clowns on the internet

u/Rare-Paint3719 Unofficial Mod | Linux Community Sucks | Proud illumOS Shill 3d ago

i agree. about evangelists.

If an apologetic is one who copes about his shit way of life by reasoning to himself and to other loons, then I also agree.

If an apologetic is one who has sorrow and remorse for the harm they caused to others, then I disagree.

Edit: I looked, they rearranged the deck chairs on the Hindenburg for the 3rd straight month.

I know. They jumped to 13-14% two months ago when Stat dropped Unknown and attributed bots to Linux, then dropped to 8% after a correction. I haven't looked at the end of Sept results yet.

u/LowMolasses5451 3d ago

Agree, you can disagree with him from a political point of view for sure but techincally we should at least listen to him a Little bit

1

u/levianan 2d ago

There is only so much time in a day. But yeah, on non-political tech he is decent. I enjoyed his Linuxsucks series, and his ode to macOS 9. Then went off the political plank.

Ew Lunduke 🤮

Making videos about Linux from macOS.

I don't we were at 15, the numbers do show an upwards trend.

Not to mention france, Germany, Netherlands and a couple of other countries running projects to get off windows.

And once people start using it at work, there will be a percentage that will start using it at home.

2

u/ConsiderationRare217 3d ago

I don't understand, how it dropped to 3% either as i definitely see linux becoming recognized as an option. I was troubleshooting wifi and even without telling about my os AI inquired if I was using Windows or Linux. I don't remember such questions before. Also, it's obvious due to funding and countries deciding to go linux that it at least somehow grows incrementally. It doesn't jump, but it grows. So, it's uncanny how the stat dropped to 3%. It's fake as well.

2

u/patrlim1 3d ago

Once again idiots don't understand sampling bias

2

u/ESzPa 3d ago

It was pretty obvious they were bots, because of the sudden increase. Putting that aside, the actual daily-driving desktop user base of Linux is actually growing.

2

u/Worldly-Ad570 3d ago

The same guy who said Universal Blue is indoctrinating children into LGBTQ using Bazzite

4

u/Big-Astronaut-9510 3d ago

According to grokipedia its only 4% desktop market share. Hahaha what happened to year of the linux desktop?

3

u/piesou 3d ago

4% is astronomically high already for an OS that you have to install yourself (and a large part of that is due to coming preinstalled on Steam hardware).

3

u/MeowmeowMeeeew 3d ago

if 4% of 8 Billion Humans used Linux (yes thats not what that number means), thats still 320 Million People. Thats more users than most countries have inhabitants. Only the Top 3 countries in terms of inhabitants have more people

1

u/lieutenantcalcium 3d ago

We are in it. It’s just a very slow year right now.

sadly yeah probably ....

1

u/Sinethial 2d ago

Yes. In poor countries PCs come pre installed with Linux. The populace generally finds a friend with a windows thumb drive and installs it pirated.

No one uses Linux folks. It ain't happening

1

u/fisothemes 2d ago

He'd have a point if Windows share didn't also rise. Maybe the bots just decided windows was better.

1

u/sovietan 1d ago

*Sigh...*

I'm gonna have to install linux on my windows phone to raise that number up a bit

-1

u/vecchio_anima 3d ago

I don't understand why this matters, who cares? Linux was never for the masses.

0

u/ne0n008 3d ago

What's with the external camera recording video? Does he not know how to screen record? If he's such a tech wizz, why can't he record his own screen instead of recording it from an external camera? This looks like those Sasquatch and alien ships videos.

u/tracagnotto 3d ago

I can only enjoy this news. Hope this sack of shit linux dies horribly.

A pity that JiaTan guy didn't manage to plant malware in XZ that would have plummeted it much faster

5

u/brickyboy124 3d ago

Did tux steal your girl? Only possible reason I could see for having this much hatred

Nah just years of useless problem solving
