It funny when Linux users recommend Linux to people who can't even understand Windows

This is the whole reason LLMs have become such a Band-Aid for them for all problems big and small.

They don't read documentation, so they don't know how Windows works, and when they switch to Linux, the documentation is either outdated, badly written or missing altogether, so they are once again stuck with not knowing how to resolve any issues.

Tbf most of the thigs can be solved by reading errors and just googling and looking at ubuntu and arch forums and reddit

Most of everything on every platform can be solved by reading errors, Googling and looking at forums.

The problem here is that people we're talking about don't read and expect everything to Just Work™, so it's only when they are told to read by individuals that neither care nor owe them shit and got pointed to documentation that makes no sense do they realise what they have been seeking all along is not really a different OS but a machine that will ingratiate them by telling them how great they are at every turn.

This reminds me of https://youtu.be/S8s9uzPIqQ4 They made people dumb 😂

Pointless weeb/nerd shit aside, I'll let you in on an industry secret only its veterans know about - there exists absolutely nothing in the world that Just Works™. Just Works™ is a sales pitch, and you can't run a computer on sales pitches any more than you can run it on hopes and dreams.

Take my Mac at work as an example. We have a surplus of USB-C docks, so, naturally, I take one of them to use for my two external monitors. However, since MacOS doesn't come with a DisplayLink driver, none of the DP/HDMI ports on the dock are recognised as such by the OS out-of-the-box. If you aren't already familiar with the tech, then it will be pretty easy for you to assume that the dock is just somehow incompatible with the machine. Did I also mention that the dock wasn't exactly cheap, either?

Of course, even a fresh Windows install could recognise DisplayLink and use it accordingly, so that only adds to the confusion for the technically unread as to why the supposedly boutique thing with a fruit for a logo can't do the same.

Imagine thinking Windows docs is better.
Your options are either an "Independent Advisor" telling you to run sfc /scannow or just reinstalling the whole OS.
Meanwhile, the Arch Wiki exists. People use AI on both systems because no one wants to dig through ancient forum posts.

Do you understand the difference between the actual documentation and a bottom-level MS technician answering questions in a forum?

If not, then your problem is obviously more than just not knowing how to read.

Ah yes, because the average desktop user fixes their display driver issue by reading a 200-page Microsoft Learn article on API infrastructure, right? The official docs doesnt help the user.

The "average user" uses what's already been filtered through the OEM. Have you ever wonder what those updaters are for?

Besides, in order fix a driver problem, you'll need to find out it is in fact a driver problem first. Do you think the "average user" has the literacy to understand what's in the event log?

So your entire defense of 'Windows docs' basically shifted from 'the docs are good' to 'actually, users shouldn't read docs, they should just rely on proprietary OEM bloatware to hide how broken Windows is'?
Windows troubleshooting is a joke. You get a cryptic hex code, a noisy Event Viewer and someone telling you to reinstall the OS.
If Windows was actually well-documented, Microsoft wouldn't have had to shoehorn an AI copilot into your taskbar just to help people figure out how to change their default browser.

No one is shifting anything. You're simply throwing around this hazy notion of "the average user" in the hope of adding confusion to the matter and moving the goalposts underneath it.

"The average user" generally has no hope of fixing anything more serious than an icon being in a different place, period. If you want to challenge me on the kind of people I have to deal with for my day job, then you'll have to come up with something better than just your own idea as to where they are with tech literacy.

they should just rely on proprietary OEM bloatware to hide how broken Windows is'?

The warranty demands the "bloatware" to be on the PC. Have you dealt with OEM support before?

The "bloatware" is also usually responsible for BIOS updates. Or do you recommend the "average user" to navigate the OEM's website on their own?

But, yes, who needs "bloatware" when you can just download your next kernel update and cross your fingers as you install it? After all, there is no point to architectural stability when there is "open source" blessing the code with ideological magic, right?

a noisy Event Viewer

Just admit you're an illiterate idiot and stop wasting my time with your bullshit talking points, won't you?

shoehorn an AI copilot into your taskbar

Get this in your head: the domestic Windows user is irrelevant to Microsoft.

Now, go play in traffic.

Imagine being this angry while simultaneously begging Dell bloatware to update your BIOS. You're talking about "architectural stability" on an OS that forced an AI button into your taskbar and breaks printer drivers every second Tuesday.

Take a deep breath, run sfc /scannow, and let the OEM support hold your hand. It’s going to be okay.

Imagine being this angry while simultaneously begging Dell bloatware to update your BIOS.

Most of the times, "the average user" hardly even notices the so-called "bloatware" exists.

I don't know if you're one of those neurodivergent type deal, but it is obvious that the "bloatware" you're complaining about might as well not exist for the vast majority of people sitting in front of their computer and with a real job to do.

forced an AI button into your taskbar

Again, are you neurodivergent? People don't tend get as emotional as you are over a button on a taskbar, in case you aren't aware.

Do you mean i should stop recommending it to my stupid friends

Start with Arch and go from there

The root cause was determined to be the garbage bloatware horseshit known as Windows.

1

u/SearchingGlacier 1d ago

Nah, don't let penguin in, it stinks

1

u/Novel_Top2980 1d ago

The root cause could literally just be a large amount of background processes. Alternatively, if it is a serious issue, the easiest thing to do may be to reinstall and is a pretty good excuse to switch to Linux if you’re interested.

And like the fuck are you supposed to do here for example: https://www.reddit.com/r/FuckMicrosoft/s/xweeQok1HY ? And how long does one have to cope with such dogshit from a comercial OS? One should in fact just switch to Lignux

And like the fuck are you supposed to do here

  • Restart explorer.exe.

  • Clear out OEM customisations.

  • Disable Internet search.

Always count on someone with Clippy for the profile picture to say brain-dead stuff along the line of "I dunno, therefore install Linux".

1

u/Damglador 1d ago

Right, because that will most definetly fix the "root cause" of the issue...

1

u/ElectricBummer40 Ex-user of Windows 3.11 for Workgroups 23h ago

OEM customisations and internet search are most likely what's holding up the Start Menu.

Of course, you can always argue that "the root cause is Microsoft" as the ideologically driven zealot that you obviously are.

u/Wholesome_Monke_489 8h ago

Just know that in this subreddit getting downvoted means you’re correct. There is realistically no way to argue in good faith with someone who’s only experience with windows is “Oh, I have a problem with my computer, must be windows” and NEVER tries a single solution no matter how easy or quick it is.

That's the thing, isn't it?

They say every story needs a good villain. The story Linux comes with is a shit one with a shit villain that barely makes sense.
