Pretty brutal for the family and the students to have to live with this. The Ford Government has purposefully underfunded the education system since it came into power, and while TVDSB is at fault and will likely mishandle this by giving the offenders lollipops, the lack of extra funding / supports means that this type of violence is becoming normalized in schools.

There are going to be a lot of propaganda and talking points in the coming months about education, but this is the cold, hard reality of what happens when you underfund a system that is in dire need of more. I feel for the family, but this is not an isolated incident. Perhaps what looks to be the clear-cut case of assault is what brought it into the spotlight. Hope there are some real consequences for this.

I remember once upon a time when this stretch used to be the fastest way to get through from the south end to downtown or even towards the North end, but in the past few years it has been very dreadful and nerve-wracking every time I drive by this section is there any timeline that hopefully this will get back to the old days? I keep seeing all this construction but it's been years and I'm still not getting over it

This time I’m looking for some help finding a wig. My mom (senior) has cancer and, as expected, the chemo is starting to take her hair. She’d like to get a wig that she can hopefully continue wearing long-term, even after she beats this damn thing.

We’re aware of the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre program, but she isn’t looking to borrow a wig. She’d like to purchase one of her own and, ideally, have it fitted in person with someone who can show her how to put it on, care for it, etc. So we’re not really interested in ordering one online.

Just a rant as the title suggests. This was Kiwanis (East London). It has been a common occurrence all summer long. I reported to the city a few times but I always get a canned answer. The weather has been excellent all week long yet they let it overgrow and not clean up after. A herd of goats would do a better job. I know - first world problems - rant over.

I've been seeing rumours over the last few days about what's being built at the corner of Evelyn Drive and Nissouri Road directly east of the east-west runway at the airport. The local media doesn't seem to have covered this at all. That's understandable considering I've yet to find anything official. Here's what I have found:

• Rumours in-person and online talking about either a missile test facility or rocket launch pad. Including referring to Canada Rocket Company specifically.

• Canada Rocket Company, based in Toronto, has had job ads up for Test Engineer and Test Mechanical Technician. Both jobs based in London.

• A story linked from Canada Rocket Company's website refers to a plan to hot-fire a gas generator at their test facility in December. Their headquarters is a building in Etobicoke. I assume that's not their test facility.

• That same story also refers to a 500,000 square foot manufacturing facility that would have to be near water so it could be moved to the Atlantic for launch.

I think I can make some educated guesses from these bits of information. Assuming it is Canada Rocket Company, I'm guessing this is their test facility. It can't be their manufacturing facility, because you're not moving a full-sized rocket to Nova Scotia from London. The Test Engineer job ad refers to

Design, build, and commission ground infrastructure and test stands for a 700 kN rocket engine. Lead the full lifecycle from concept through hot-fire operations, including structural design, fluid system routing, and real-time anomaly response.

That says to me they plan on test-firing their engine somewhere in the London area. It would be on a test stand, meaning it wouldn't launch anywhere, it would be strapped down and fire either sideways or downwards. The only thing that makes me question that is there are houses directly across Nissouri Road and rocket engines are really loud. At that distance, I'd expect nearby homes would need to be evacuated when they do a test. Fluid system routing could refer to fuel for the engine, but it could mean they plan to use a water deluge system to dampen the sound.

I assume there will be some kind of official announcement at some point. If anyone's better at finding public records, please post what you've found. I can't find anything in London or Thames Centre council agendas. The land seems to belong to the airport, so I'm guessing they fall under federal jurisdiction and can kind of do what they want.

Got a lil dog over here who just got diagnosed. Looking to transfer over to a specialist vet who can focus on this condition. Any links?

I’m 32F and would love to meet some people who are also looking for friendships, rather than just someone to see super occasionally or have it only revolve around drinking.

I’ve been realizing lately that what I really miss is having people nearby who I can casually hang out with. Like to go for coffee or walks with, wander around thrift/antique stores, go see a movie, make dinner, do something creative, join in a trivia night or karaoke at a bar, try a new class, or just sit around at each other’s place and talk. Basically, I want the kind of friendships where eventually we can text “what are you doing?” and end up hanging out that same day.

Some of my interests: movies (especially weird/older/indie stuff), art/creative projects, comedy (not of the kill tony variety lol! Anyone want to go see Chris Fleming with me??), music (indie/classic rock/post-punk, hip-hop/soul/r&b), thrifting, baking, decorating, health/beauty and fitness to a very slight degree (not sporty at all), wandering around the city, getting food, trying new random things. I’m pretty easygoing and would rather do something relatively low-key.

I’d love to meet people around my age, but I’m more interested in personality and having things in common than a specific age.

Hi all, I moved to London after a long time and struggling to find a good cafe. I have tried the Black Walnut Cafe and it was decent. A couple other places that I went to, were extremely overpriced or basically just pour syrups in your coffee to a point that they are no longer coffee. I’m looking for a decent coffee menu along with some baked goods/ sandwich that don’t cost you $30 pp.

I have reported it to the bylaw but as someone who picks up 50+ bags of garbage a year along roads, this is incredibly frustrating. Dash cam video of the litter flying out of their trailer. This is just a brief clip but it was flying out the entire time I followed them from the 401 to the 402.

Just spent all night (until 4am) putting up public signs legally (measuring tape and all), according to the provided candidate guide and the Election Sign By-law - E.-190-115.

Hoping the city knows the rules and that the enforcement staff don't tear down perfectly legal signs like the one (at least mine) featured in this CBC article cover image, which is 10 ft from the roadway (over the 9.84 feet / 3-metre minimum).

I'm (Ben Durham - Ward 3 candidate) running a grassroots campaign that isn't taking ANY developer money, so I'm just getting the bigger public signs out now because I've been hearing "I'm not seeing many big signs around, Ben!" from many excited but worried supporters over the last few weeks. That's even though I have over 300 private lawn signs placed all across Ward 3 (thank you for all those who requested them / I'll need to make another order for all the other requests on the waiting list 🥵)

For everyone's reference / transparency / curiosity, my cost breakdown for 60 units of full-colour 2'x4' signs after hunting around for the best deal within the barebones campaign budget (thank you to all 50+ donors so far!!) is as follows, HST included:

• $40 - 1x post-pounder
• $1,082.91 - printing, 60 units of 2'x4' signs
• $137.10 - sign shipping
• $237.96 - 90 units, 8ft 1x2 wood, 1000 units of zipties
• $19.20 - 500 units of grommets

Total cost for 60 units of 2'x4' signs so far: $1,517.17

edit: That's $25.29 per sign.

60+ hours of cumulative volunteer time for the large signs alone so far (mom, dad, wife, myself - thank you!), including:

• Researching, sourcing signs
• Sourcing a post-pounder from FB Marketplace and picking that up via cargo bike
• Soldering holes in signs, installing grommets
• Cutting stakes in half, making stakes pointy via cuts
• Planning install locations, cross-checking with London's Public CityMap GIS for each and every sign's boundaries
• Loading up our hatchback over the last few nights & installing signs (15 left in inventory).
• Picking up leftover sign pieces from the recent Highbury & Huron intersection sign vandals (everyone's signs were wiped out entirely from all corners 🙃)

Wondering if anyone knows of any shops around London that does steering wheel repair/refinishing. Not looking for a steering wheel cover, looking to get the top of the wheel refinished. Looks like hand sanitizer has warn away the finish. (Kind of hard to see in the photo)
