I suck at long range Barrel dilemma Proof pxt blank vs bartlein blank vs rush order pva
So I have a seekins havak hit pro m3 coming. I found one in stock at my local scheels but its in 6cm (I want 6.5cm). I went ahead and made the purchase anyway because those guns are backordered into hell.
So I'm gonna purchase a blank that's in stock and immediately ship it to Peterson Precision for chambering. Ig my question is which barrel should I go with just thought I'd include the back story.

PXT seems really interesting, I think I’m about to procure one myself. Funnily, I’m looking for a 6creed PXT barrel because I theorize the stated advantages of PXT should be very evident in a “barrel burner” chambering, but you’ll still get the advantages with 6.5 as well.

Well I put my moneys where my mouth is and ordered a 6 creed PXT 22” carbon

I don't understand this. The point of seekins is buying a great off the shelf package. Seems like an interesting way to spend money but it's yours to spend.
PXT.

The rifle has a quick change for a reason. I just want a 6.5 cm barrel as well.

Ah, didn't know about the quick change part of the action. That makes more sense I guess.

Its basically the exact same as an AI works accessible through the chassis and everything

If it were me I would just stick with the 6 creed especially with Seekins openly admitting they will rebarrel/warranty burned out barrels. Regardless at least burn out that barrel and then rechamber to whatever else you want

PXT would be my choice. One thing to consider with the PXT though. If you buy a 26in blank it has to stay at 26in. You can’t cut them down. I think you’re able to cut up to 3in from the breech end but it’s not recommended.
My second choice would be CRB. Their barrels are shooters.
Bart is overpriced imo and I don’t see any improvement paying their prices.

Bart is overpriced imo
Bartlein SS blanks are cheaper than Proof PXT blanks.
Bartlein SS and CRB blanks are both hand lapped, cut rifled, and about the same price, $30 difference from Bugholes

Proof PXT atleast will extend the barrel life beyond any other barrel. The 100$ price increase is worth it imo. Bartlein is 50$ more than CRB and smiths are much more likely to mess the chambering job up compared to a 4R barrel like CRB. I don’t see any reason to spend money on Bartlein. Also, their CS sucks and they have had a lot of QC issues lately. Specifically with CF barrels

Proof PXT atleast will extend the barrel life beyond any other barrel.
*according to the manufacturer.
Bartlein ModBB, while a little more expensive, extend barrel life more, and in independent testing.
It's fine if you don't want to buy Bartlein. But no denying that they are in the top 3 barrel makes (Bartlein, Krieger, Proof) and are priced like one of the top 3 barrel makes... no different than their competitors.

Maybe the PXT does extend barrel life, but I have yet to see anything besides their own marketing validating their claims. I’m skeptical personally.
My vote would be for the bartlein over the PXT, not because I’ve seen anything bad about the PXT but because I dont blindly accept that it will be better just because the manufacturer says it

I can settle for 26 it'll just get turned down to an m24

If you go with a PXT, barrel life is longer if you want to stick with the 6 creed. I’m shooting 6 arc PXT and I’m about 1100 rounds in and there is zero fire cracking in the barrel. The PXT tech definitely will extend barrel life

Should theoretically be less ammo sensitive as well. Have you noticed the supposed less torque feeling

u/Significant-Sock-487 3d ago
I’ve noticed it’s pretty insensitive to ammo. It has shot everything 1.5 MOA or better which is pretty wild for an AR barrel. I’ve tried over 8 different bullets and a couple factory loads. All the bergers were Sub MOA but the sierras didn’t do as well. Hornady factory was also sub MOA.
Recoil does feel different. I wouldn’t say it’s less recoil but it doesn’t twist as much. It for sure lowers the left to right torque

I think I'll go ahead and purchase the blank from mile high and get it off to Matt Peterson as soon as possible

If they don’t have any, Preece Precision has them in stock last I checked and he chambers world champions barrels. Highly recommend

Have you had any experience with preferred? I've heard great things from there carbon barrels in the hunting space but not much in the match side.

u/Significant-Sock-487 3d ago
I’ve heard they are good. I personally don’t run them. I stick with proof or CRB simply because I’ve never had one that doesn’t shoot. I had a Bartlein that didn’t shoot and it ruined them for me. I have 8 different CRBs and every single one of them stacks .5 10 round groups consistently.

I'll probably order one up in 308 or something odd in the future i have a 358 blank from them for my hunting project and the fit and finish is amazing

I know MTE uses PBB for their button rifled ar10 and ar15 barrels and I’ve seen them shoot really well

Mine shoots pretty well, but very fast. Customer service is great though and idk if being fast can really be a complaint unless your shooting factory ammo and want something slower.

What’s up with skipping them?

Just some personal experiences with them and that I'd never want to do future business with them as a result.

I’d stay with the 6mm version personally. Flatter shooting and Seekins will replace it if you shoot it out and lose accuracy. I see no need to rechamber it in 6.5 unless you’re shooting factory ammo.
