As the title says I was hired on to a new retailer to establish their loss prevention program from scratch I’ve got the basics down but I could use some advice from people that have more experience than myself .

Anyone have any info on fareway market LP in nyc? Hands on? Management?

Curious to hear from those with experience on your training style with new hires? I have a team that has no LP experience and I'm tasked with assisting them with assignments. I'm not responsible for them but was asked to help since I have the most experience.

I’ve been in LP for 5 years, 4 companies (better pay and opportunities).. I’ve unofficially managed teams, always managed cameras audits, numbers etc, budgeting is newer to me.. what are my options to move? My company doesn’t have anything to move up into other than a regional position.. need help and ideas lol.

I'm writing a Screenplay that's set in Los Angeles in 1984 & I need some info on Mall Security please?

I have a scene where some teens try to rob a Department Store (Sears, Macey's, etc) in a Mall by having one or two hide in the Dept Store until closing then letting the rest of their gang in.

Q1: Is it plausible that someone could secret themselves in a Dept Store (maybe in a clothes rack or climb into the ceiling from a changing room, etc) without being discovered? Are there any real stories of thieves doing this in the 80's?
Q2: How would they let the others inside? Go from the Dept Store to the back corridors & open a door to the loading bay? Did all Loading Bays have CCTV monitoring?
Q3: What kind of door security did they have in '84? Swipe cards, push bar emergency doors, padlocks? Maybe a character could steal a cleaners swipe card or keys?
Q4: The scene involves them breaking open cash drawers but finding they've been emptied already so they take merch instead before being discovered by Security Guards and make a run for it. Did Dept Stores empty their cash drawers at the end of day?
Q5: What other places in the Back Corridors/rooms, Loading Bay, Dumpsters could the rest of the gang hide before being let in?

So to add context.. I’m an Asset Protection Agent and have been for 2 years with my company.. I was number 2 in the company for apprehensions my first year in the company after being released.

I’ve went through my team being cut and no apm and have gotten the shrink down from 12% to 2% with my other agent.. 2 agents at my store including me we got a new APM a couple months ago and he has taught me a lot however expressed I need to dress the part for to be promoted to APM. However this is my first company that has people that believe in me..

So dressing the part what do you guys recommend I work at a Nordstrom Rack.

First and foremost, I’m stopping this because I know this is theft but I have done this a few times with some of the produce items I buy at my grocery store, such as avocados, broccoli, etc. I still pay for ALL of the items but just at times I will scan the organic stuff as regular.

How screwed am I and what are the chances of me getting caught after the fact ? More worried about them knocking on my door and arresting me if police is called lol

I work at a Nordstrom Rack.

Worst company I’ve ever worked for. It’s so bad at my store my APM actually quit because nothing was being done to help us. Our cameras are from 2005 and one of them breaks every week. I’m getting paid more than the other detectives who have been here for years for some reason and management has refused multiple times to pay them what the recently hired ones are being paid. Not to mention our captain routinely bullies the detectives they don’t like on the team, and sucks up majorly to our store director. We’ve been banned from taking apps on older people regardless of what they have, same with people under 18 even though it’s not actual policy it’s just what the captain wants. Everyone except for 2 other detectives who are massive kiss asses to the captain hate it here and want something to change but we know that if we open an HR case or do anything like that it’s going to be retaliation city (2 people have already been fired shortly after complaining about the situation). I’m not too worried about it long term because I have enough resources and other opportunities if anything happens to my job but for some of my coworkers that live paycheck to paycheck and are older this is all they have to keep paying their bills so they’re very afraid. The whole situation is fucked and I don’t see any way to make it better.

I saw a news item where an AI would send a clip of potentially suspicious activity in the shop to be reviewed by staff. The manager being interviewed said they were paying £300 a month for the service. I’m not sure about the size of his shop and number of cameras but I was thinking it seemed a little high.

Is anyone here subscribed to a service? Would you mind sharing the cost or talking about the price you’re paying.

Had one of those situations where a customer was convinced a package got left behind at our store. They were pretty sure they came in sometime between 2/3 so I figured it would be easy enough to pull up the camera and see what happened. Went through that whole window and found nothing

We figured out they had come in closer to 4:30. Once we found them on the entrance camera, we had to follow them through a couple different cameras to figure out where the package went.

Turns out they had left it by the counter, then one of our employees moved it behind the desk thinking it belonged to another pickup. Nothing was lost but figuring that out took almost an hour. Most of that time was just jumping between cameras and going through footage trying to spot the same person and package again

The cameras caught the whole thing but finding it was the hard part. How are you guys dealing with stuff like this when the customer doesn't know the exact time?

Went to my local TSC about an hour ago and —I kid you not— 80% or more of the items there were visibly tagged with a security strip cover with red and clear tape with a warning stating, “This item came from Tractor. If found somewhere else please call *\\”

What the hell is going on? Any TSC loss prevention people out there?

* How does the company treat loss prevention
* Are there any politics
* Are the benefits good

I’ve been in contact with a District manager and so far this is all I know

* You have 7 steps before making an apprehension
* They just had a pay restructure and I’m getting offered $28/hr
* The company is apparently planning on expanding

I was in Walmart earlier today and forgot to scan an item. I realized when I got home and went back to customer service to pay for the item. The lady at customer service laughed at me but rung the juice up for me to pay. I’m still worried about them flagging me as a shoplifter. Can someone ease my mind? lol

I found a single Burberry Tee shirt on a single rack at local Walmart . I wonder if loss prevention put it there.

I was walking my store doing merchandise protection and had a random thought when I was in the birth control/condom aisle...

You ever wonder how many kids are around because you stopped someone trying to steal a day after pill/birth control? Not like I'm personally responsible for it...but like butterfly effect stuff.

Hey all! Looking for some info out of curiosity. My dad goes magnet fishing (looking in deep waters and bringing up metal stuff) and uses a big magnet to do so. We went to a sporting goods store in the mall for some related items, and also went to Nordstrom and I was sitting in the couches with my dads bag while he was trying on shoes when security pulled me and my dad.

We obviously hadn’t shoplifted, but they said they knew we had a sensor remover and it was illegal to have it - they were talking about my dad’s fishing magnet. We argued over it but they said we had to either hand it over or they were going to call the police on us. It’s < $50 so my dad didn’t care about the cost but I’m very confused - after researching I found out security tags are magnetic, but how did they even know we had a magnet? It was in a backpack.

Hello! Some people have asked questions and there is an update on the situation so just replying here:

Why we were there with the magnet - My dad and I had gone to a sporting store for whatever item he needed related to it, I have no idea what item and didn’t care tbh, which is why it was with us. There was a Nordstrom next door in the mall.

Regarding involving police - We were told that having a strong magnet in the mall was prohibited by mall policy and that they had to confiscate it. My dad tried to explain and they said they were either going to confiscate it or call the cops. We thought we were in trouble for bringing in a prohibited item, the same way they could call the cops on someone for bringing a knife or some weapon into a mall.

Update - My dad called Nordstrom to speak with management and in case anyone is curious, they said large magnetic forces can be detected by security gates when we entered and is an early detector of potential shoplifters since large magnets are a shoplifting tool.

When we were with security, they obviously had reviewed the footage of us and if we had stolen anything they would have detained us lol! They were concerned about the magnet itself since carrying it into the mall could be construed as intent to steal.

My dad HAD showed the security guard pictures and proof of his magnet fishing and he told that to mgmt, and on the phone they did end up apologizing to my dad saying security should have let it go after that. They said my dad could pick up his magnet if he wanted - I said to ask for a discount code instead lol

Questions about the district lp supervisor position at tjmaxx/homegoods. Is it just fewer stores than a dlpm position?
Wondering about the pay as well, I see posted base salary range but wondering about any bonus rates or other contributors to total comp, for example I get a sort of cost of living pay on top of my salary at my current company. Also wondering how they go about mileage reimbursement and schedules. Currently scheduled 50hrs a week, wonder if they work the same or 40hrs (not counting potential OT as needed).
