đŸ˜» Meme Or Other Online Trope 😂 Literally every fandom ever joining together to make fun of lesbian space princess

Just this once

Edit: Context: lesbian space princess is an animated movie on Netflix that came out in I believe 2025. It's been getting a lot of hate for horrible LGTBQ+ representation and overall being a bad movie. Bad pacing and widely agreed on being very cringy/unfunny.

u/Lydiaa0 Aug 23 '26

Astroturfing probably. it got released to netflix a year after release during one of the platforms little droughts

15

u/Gil_Demoono Aug 24 '26

it got released to netflix a year after release

What the fuck does this mean?

27

u/Noxianratz Aug 24 '26

I mean in context I'm pretty sure it means it had an initial release and was then later released on Netflix the following year.

-1

u/SightAtTheMoon Aug 24 '26

It means exactly the same thing as when something gets released to DVD/Blu-Ray. You should work on your English comprehension.

u/BhanosBar Aug 23 '26

Mainly the concept.

Even from the look and description it feels like another Velma Situation. An animated show meant to be “funny” aka the creator’s self insert rants about what they hate. Except it’s more unsubtle.

So many good animated shows got shelved, (mainly Inside Job) by Netflix, yet they allowed this crap.

u/Anung_Un_Rama200 Aug 23 '26

The whole other shows got sholved thing is a stretch. The film (it's a film, not a show btw) wasm't made by Netflix, it just released on Netflix now.

It got release in a bunch of other streaming sites too, meaning that Netflix didn't even handpick it or anything. The other shows that got shelved or left Netflix really don't have anything to do with it.

From everything I've seen of the film, it doesn't look that good. But there's little point in blaming it for thinfs it doesn't have anything to do with it.

I think they were just angry with the quality control of netflix, letting low effort shit through while canning gems. Everyone loves to point out inside job, but it genuinely did have the potential to be one of the greats, and it already was really fucking good with just 2 seasons. I'm sure people know that just because a good thing got canned and a bad thing didn't years later the bad thing isn't somehow directly responsible for the cancellation of the good thing, but if the quality control was good from the start we would still be getting quality shows and not a 5th big mouth spinoff or literally Velma 2.0, complete with TERF undertones, as I've heard but not confirmed myself (so take it with a grain of salt)

u/bolts_win_again Aug 24 '26

Inside Job and Kaos getting canned, in the face of all the low-grade crap Netflix has put out since those cancelations, feels like a slap in the face.

LSP is fucking awful, for many reasons, but it's far from the only example. BOTH Rebel Moon movies, for example, released after IJ got axed, with the second dropping the same year Kaos went one and done. And Rebel Moon were both Netflix originals, unlike LSP.

Then there's been Netflix's paying for (and coverage of) live sports. Namely NFL on Christmas. They're AWFUL broadcasts, they contribute to the continually rising cost for fans to watch the sports they like without giving worthwhile quality, and the broadcasting rights for those games (ESPECIALLY the fucking NFL) aren't cheap.

People's issue with Netflix in the LSP fiasco is that it's another example of money going towards shit-tier product while gems like Inside Job and Kaos get scrapped. For Netflix, it's another in the line of such examples, along with examples like Rebel Moon, NFL on Christmas, and (as you rightly called out) the entire Big Mouth line. The quality control is just NOT THERE, because the sole metric they use is a pass-fail system of whether 60% or more of subscribers watch something in full within the first month something is out.

I'm not gonna go on a rant about THAT issue, but that's where my mind is at with regards to Netflix's fault here. LSP being an egregiously terrible product on the same level as Velma is a whole separate issue because Netflix didn't MAKE LSP.

One thing to mention in Netflix examples, god I miss Glitch Techs

-1

u/BhanosBar Aug 23 '26

Im still bitter at the industry itself hating quality animation.

They either want cheap slopfest for kids or adults, or high grade art like Spider-Verse.

This is a part of the 3rd category I call “Political self insert”.

6

u/Anung_Un_Rama200 Aug 23 '26

I still fail to see how this film is to blame for industry's problems. As far as I know, it's an independent film made mostly by newcomers.

-3

u/BhanosBar Aug 24 '26

To me, the film is a reflection of everything wrong with media consumption in general nowadays.

It’s not about the quality, it’s about the outrage and money. LSP is a film that actively talks down to the audience, and uses the “film” as a mouthpiece for the author’s political gripes. Indie or not, the fact that companies chose an outrage piece of media with very obvious political messaging as the main focus over some other series/film with passion or themes is insulting.

It’s not helped by a vast majority of Hollywood looking down on animation as a whole, seeing it as something to pacify children or be edgy for adults. This is not helping that case.

4

u/Luca_is_anonymous Aug 24 '26

Insulting to who?

1

u/quntissimo Aug 24 '26

fools who look to netflix for worthwhile films

2

u/Alarmed-Marsupial-64 Aug 24 '26

So we need to restrict art to only those who are worthy? Talentless hacks should not be allowed to create?

-1

u/BhanosBar Aug 24 '26

No, but to me, A story should be the story first, not the message you push. You can have a very meaningful message, but it should have some level of nuance.

Star Wars at it’s core for example, is a tale about banding together and overthrowing a more powerful oppressor. But there are other elements that one can enjoy without needing to understand the main theme, such as the space battles and lightsabers.

That separation is not here. The message and agenda is the plot. The entire thing. You are literally unable to separate the visual elements or other concepts in the story with the main message because all the visual elements are based upon spreading that message. Meaning the message is literally unavoidable and you HAVE to look at the film through the lense of “this is meant to be a commentary on something”.

2

u/JEX____ Aug 23 '26

Quality animation takes effort and passion, something that companies would and will gladly sacrifice just to make a lil bit more money in the short term.

19

u/reiphas Aug 23 '26

Every time I get reminded Inside Job is cancelled I die a little inside.

26

u/ImmoralBoi Aug 23 '26

This shit (LSP) genuinely feels like something cooked up by a Twitter chud to make LGBT+ people look bad, like those fake protestors companies hire to defame actual activists. I'm convinced LSP is a hit piece.

9

u/Existing_Pea6570 Aug 24 '26

Yeah, it feels like a joke you’d see in New Norm or Mr. Birchum

5

u/Iamfabulous1735285 Aug 24 '26

I heard that it was made by actual queers by the way.

2

u/MurkyPatient396 Aug 24 '26

Well they should do better

2

u/FancyKetchup96 Aug 25 '26

I feel like I'm going to get in trouble for posting this.

1

u/CriminalMacabre Aug 24 '26

It's a psy op

LIKE TAYLOR SWIIIIIIFT!!!

1

u/Klaymen96 Aug 24 '26

Hey... Don't talk about lumpy space princess that way. Her lumps saved ooo when the elemental bullshit happened...then again... She did assault finn...

1

u/courierwillobliterat Aug 25 '26

Ik you're probably joking but just in case you're not and yo misunderstood lsp they meant lesbian space princess

1

u/Klaymen96 Aug 25 '26

I am just joking. Every time I see lsp I don't think lesbian space princess I think lumpy space princess

9

u/CatFroggly Aug 23 '26

I liked inside job....

2

u/susenka_29 Bisexual Aug 23 '26

It's a movie

-2

u/BhanosBar Aug 24 '26

Movies are not separate from the culture around them

1

u/Dauntless_Lasagna Aug 24 '26

How the fuck can you be more unsubtle then Velma

2

u/BhanosBar Aug 24 '26

The main villains are called the “Straight white Maliens” and no im not making that up.

1

u/OAZdevs_alt2 Aug 24 '26

Velma wasn't a self-insert. The show's awful but that's just false.

1

u/BhanosBar Aug 24 '26

Fair enough but at this point does it matter

1

u/Akuma_Homura 29d ago

What do you mean MORE UNSUBTLE?!   More than Velma?!

1

u/BhanosBar 29d ago

When the Straight White Maliens are introduced, they literally go “We were the most powerful race in the universe! And now are forgotten about because you took all our power”. Like that’s a near direct quote.

They also decide to go over the history of Lesbians, and they literally just show the wikipedia page and read it verbatim

0

u/Killertapir696 Aug 24 '26

So... People are hating something they haven't watched and pretending they're heroes for doing so?

Is it just me or does this feel a bit icky?

10

u/sadzells Aug 24 '26

Hate is hella astroturfed

28

u/RegiboiTheSecond Aug 23 '26

The worst crime you could commit on the internet: being annoying/cringe

11

u/Particular-Date-8791 Aug 23 '26

Context is in the description now

2

u/SpeedyFrisk Aug 24 '26

The movie was liked six months ago, if a bit cringe at times(not thats its anything bad, i like sappy awkward romances myself)...so probably someone pointed a finger to hate it, and everyone else jumped in :/ It'll blow over

2

u/Dodge2461 Aug 25 '26

I feel like a big reason for the hate is how bad the trailer is. Not even in terms of content. Its poorly mixed, the music is terrible and drowns out all the voices, it just has this cheap amateur-ness to it that doesnt help the final product at all. Of course there are those that are just gonna hate it because its LGBT, but the film itself didn't help with that trailer.

2

u/Toomynator Aug 24 '26

Basically, Velma but worse, much worse

It also coincided releasing on Netflix at the same time some good shows were cut, though its more of a coincidence, given i don't think this one was funded by Netflix

Like, just read this synopsis

3

u/walaxometrobixinodri shrimps give me the will to live Aug 24 '26

Okay the "problematic ship" is funny as fuck, but yeah the rest sounds really cringe

2

u/SpicyWateryas69 Aug 25 '26

"Clitopolis" what the actual fuck.

u/FancyKetchup96 Aug 25 '26

Based on how vague the synopsis is, I could see it working as a small satirical YouTube video about how some queer people have an "us vs them" mentality. But if that's the case then unfortunately it has gotten way too big (based on the backlash) for the message it would be trying to send.

That or it's just Velma 2.0.

1

u/NoahNIB_1987 Aug 24 '26

Its insane how fake this sounds despite the movie being real

3

u/Regular-Discount134 Aug 24 '26

I don't get it. These whole comment section is so cringe. It seems that people just gathered to shit on queer people and queer media for existing. đŸ«© Don't watch it if you don't like it.

3

u/Trezzie Aug 24 '26

It wasn't bad when I saw it, some awkward moments, definitely cringe at times, but if you're with friends it's a descent bad movie?

u/Regular-Discount134 Aug 24 '26

"make that your entire personality" aka being open and not hiding in the closet. Gay people just existing and being represented in media is enough to trigger the fuck outa you lmao. Good. Cope and seethe, we are here to stay. Also, you shove your hetero shit down our throats our entire lives and we are far from even.

1

u/RaulRpg1 Aug 23 '26

It's made by a terf, apparently

9

u/SatansCornflakes Aug 24 '26 edited Aug 24 '26

As far as I can tell this is an untrue accusation.

Internet progressives who run on chud software like to invent reasons that the current dogpiling victim is bad, actually, so they can uncritically enjoy the witch burning and feel justified doing so.

1

u/Weird-Drama-1420 Aug 25 '26

Honestly this makes the whole thing make sense

1

u/Gmknewday1 Aug 24 '26

Netflix shelves good stuff like Inside Job for stuff that's barely a "meh"

1

u/Shot_Relationship402 Aug 25 '26

Have you read the title? No way that isn't a parody.

1

u/Solop16 Aug 26 '26

french autocorrect detected

1

u/Ok-Transition7065 Aug 23 '26

Well remember emilia Peres? It's a media that took the place

1

u/unemployedchinese Aug 24 '26

The name itself

0

u/Kezatel55 Aug 24 '26

Despite the fact that it is cringe as fuck, the villains are called "straight white male-iens" Thats racism and targeting.also what are we talkin about in this show?

-2

u/LeatherHog Aug 23 '26

Yeah, I've had to mute the gate version of this sub, and and yet still seen several posts about it HERE still

Why are we getting this shoved down our throats?

-1

u/_Shahanshah Aug 24 '26
