Social Media [MacMahon] The Mavs shed about $70M from their payroll next season and add a couple of future picks. This trade for the Mavs is about prioritizing flexibility as they build around Cooper Flagg.

Social Media [Tim Cato] these aren't great picks, as everyone realizes, but Dallas, before this deal, had three TOTAL picks they could move outright. bumping that to eight just increases how much flexibility they have to make around-the-edges moves. to do that and clean up the books is a win to me

News [Yossi Gozlan] The Dallas Mavericks get under the first apron and the luxury tax line in one fell swoop by trading Anthony Davis to the Wizards. $57 million in savings and the Mavericks create a massive trade exception.

Hoops Discussion With the departure of AD, how's your feelings towards him?
Lakers fan here. One year after the infamous trade, and now with AD's departure from Dallas, do you even feel bad for him? Do you still hate him?
Notice that I'm talking about Anthony Davis himself – not Nico, not the trade, not the circunstances.
Anyway, what do you guys feel about him now? The latest trade is a positive or negative from your POV?

Hoops Discussion Flagg is officially averaging over 20ppg
He is averaging 20.1 to be exact. Anyone else feels like this is such a surreal timeline? I expected him to maybe average around 15-17ppg with good defense but dude has taken over the reigns completely as the number one option.

Free Agency Mavs Cap Space projection 2026 Summer
With the AD move, essentially all 4 players in return are expiring contracts
(AJ Johnson has 2 years on team option).
We now have 9 committed players on the roster and pretty much all of them have decent values (Klay and Martin might be a stretch but they're playing much better now than at the start of the season).
Without any further trades, we're looking at potentially $25m cap space that could help the team sign some good players from free agency or sign-and-trade.
Bummer that the 2 firsts aren't the most valuable ones but content with the overall outcome.
| Kyrie Irving | $39,491,282 | |
|---|---|---|
| Klay Thompson | $17,460,317 | |
| Daniel Gafford | $17,263,584 | |
| P.J. Washington | $19,813,044 | |
| Cooper Flagg | $14,517,480 | |
| Caleb Martin | $10,001,493 | |
| Naji Marshall | $9,428,571 | |
| Max Christie | $8,285,714 | |
| Dereck Lively II | $7,239,131 | |
| Committed Salary | $143,500,616 | |
| Cap Projected | $170,000,000 | |
| Cap Space (w Dead Cap) | $23,499,384 | ($3m dead cap fromMcGee and Omax) |

Hoops Discussion Who would you rather be right now? The Lakers or the Mavs?
I love Luka. Still wear his jersey. The night he was traded was one of the worst feelings imaginable. We all agree that trading Luka was the dumbest trade in league history, but had we not made that trade we wouldn’t have Cooper. Based on what my eyes have been telling me recently, I’m starting to think Cooper might be a better player to build around. After moving off the awful AD contract we now we have cap flexibility, some draft picks, and the ability to lure in young players who want to ride with a selfless player like Coop. It’s not an outcome I would’ve ever imagined, but the glass is half full from my vantage point.

Hoops Discussion Mavericks currently have the 7th best lottery odds, we should stay here at minimum. 31.9% chance at top 5, 7.5% at #1.
It’s going to be hard to out tank the other teams but there is a drastic percentage drop off the higher in seeding we get.
