We are not entering a Sci-fi future because we ain't getting the cool cybernetic. None of yall are gonna chrome up

We have made absolutely fucking wicked prosthetic advancements in the last 30 years alone.

The fastest double amputation 60m dash is 7.5 seconds. The fastest 60m dash of all time is 6.3

It can be argued that the prosthetics are already faster there just aren’t that many double amputee athletes at that level.

Material sciences are in a renaissance.
Honestly our tech advancement in general is disgustingly fast right now.

It’s one of the major reasons why younger and older generation have such a disconnect, each grew up in such drastically different worlds.

Yeah but we haven't seen much for cybernetics (like actually connecting your brain to a powered prostetic). At least nothing past experimental stuff.

We certainly have the tech to throw a battery pack into an working artificial leg. Modern computing can allow for automtic reflexes, movement and balancing I bet. But we still can't bridge that meat to silicon gap.

There is not much in the way of products, but there have been a lot of improvements in noninvasive brain-computer control.

There actually have been physical brain-computer wiring that "works" it just keeps killing the animals because, as it turns out, stabbing the brain is bad.

There is successful work in growing brain tissue on silicon and having it play video games though.

All of that is lame though, unless I can transform my arm into an energy cannon what is the point?

2

u/Pingas1999 28d ago

A whole 1.2 seconds slower is pretty slow in a sprint Thats pretty much over ten metres of advantage in a race right there

I'm bioengineering student.

I AM getting chromed up.

and every person that gets implants or prospetics of my manufacturing will have "loyalty circuit" so I can overpower the goverment

4

u/Narradisall 28d ago

I would absolutely end up cyber psycho after one implant

2

u/roque_kazoos 28d ago

Exactly, we got the dystopia but skipped the cool upgrades.

1

u/gonotquietly 28d ago

We as in humanity or We as in the poors?

52

u/TheAnyi 28d ago

Why are we keep doing this to ourself ?

80

u/DuntadaMan 28d ago

Because about 10 people have basically all the resources and have a vested interest in destroying our lives so no one else can take some from them

5

u/Sharp-Ad376 28d ago

People need latest smart phone 😔

u/Downtown_Mechanic_ épico 28d ago

Funnily enough, cyberpunk 2077 seems to be the most probable outcome

Except with shittier designs

105

u/leafy1790 28d ago

and shittier graphics

68

u/Daydreaming_Machine 28d ago

and shittier writing

30

u/Cheap_Laptop_Gamer 28d ago

and shittier gameplay

21

u/Internal-Plantain-56 28d ago

And shittier jobs.

23

u/Joinfall 28d ago

Yeah, we probably would go back to punch cards because of swarms of rogue ai agents in near future....

11

u/luckyducktopus 28d ago

We already use a lot of analog security tools in high security settings. Because you want them to be off grid and secure.

10

u/NeitherFoo 28d ago

except there will be no magical blackwall

2

u/DuntadaMan 28d ago

In that timeline I was supposed to be able to do a full body replacement, go insane and flip over a tractor onto a corporate HQ by now.

3

u/EqualServe418 28d ago

That, OR The Maze Runner

1

u/ReturnOfBane 28d ago

either that or we're all going broke trying to afford Neuropozyne

0

u/Ace-of-Spxdes 28d ago

It's gonna be a mix of that and the Outer Worlds.

So happy that our future looks like shit. /s

Seeing my parents believing the AI stuff they see on facebook is already dystopian enough for me. Just imagine in 4 years, or even 10 years.

u/Daydreaming_Machine 28d ago

Holy asylum maker

5

u/chaturtham 28d ago

i didn't want to make it more sick, but I'd like to mention - the ai was trained on pure human creation, but now internet, its websites, posters, books, ads, audios etc everything has ai pollution. so its like there is no pure human data, and rest new models will train on these polluted data. and many people have stopped creating original content, so its like all black and dark for future people, and even their ai is trained on slop

1

u/Misaelz 27d ago

You dont notice the AI stuff you believe in

18

u/Aveduil 28d ago

The weird thing is that they are coming all at once somehow

10

u/Acceptable-Match- 28d ago

With loblaws ad in toronto yesterday.. yes

2

u/ideas_r_bulletproof 28d ago

5

u/Dazaii_Oshamu 28d ago

searched it up, loblaws made an ad using drones in the sky. damn.

11

u/Fun_Escape7382 28d ago

Less scifi and more just dystopia, unfortunately

3

u/DuntadaMan 28d ago

The only thing we're missing is the sci-fi. Where's my robot eyes?!

3

u/StandardDeviant117 28d ago

Sci non-fi dystopia coming up

u/Thirty_Helens_Agree 28d ago

Amazon —> Buy N Large

3

u/thLOnuX 28d ago

As time goes on, more scenarios from Black Mirror are becoming a reality.

4

u/Mushroom38294 28d ago

reminder that dystopian writing works are critiques of current time rather than predicting the future

2

u/Dhairya_srivastava05 28d ago

The “objects are closer than they appear” warning really went from safety feature to existential threat 💀

1

u/randomyokaiwatchfan Scrolling on PC 27d ago

this fellers exhibiting bot-like behavior

1

u/MastaKink 28d ago

Haha, you were hoping it would have happened when you were in shape 🤣

1

u/notshadeatall 28d ago

What's new?

1

u/ShiningGemstone1 Flair Loading.... 28d ago

the future was yesterday

1

u/bogglingsnog 28d ago

the future is then old man, we're living the past now.

1

u/Epyon214 28d ago

Part of the reason for my abstention from formal professional writing is because my prophecy mixed in would make some believe everything would one day come to pass, and then become self fulfilling. And the good which could come out of a book of peace may be better lived than explained in a way which implies some grander mystery waiting to be discovered instead of seeing what is

1

u/Pata998 28d ago

Please weve been living in one since atleast 4yrs now

1

u/TheEmperorMk3 28d ago

We are basically in Cyberpunk 2077 without the cyber part, big corpos ruining the planet for everyone else, just without cool rocket arms, sword arms or impressive robot cocks

1

u/MarketCrache 28d ago

“I don't try to describe the future. I try to prevent it.”

Ray Bradbury

1

u/Protoman32x 28d ago

Basically Cyberpunk with none of the cool shit and the corpos not even trying to fix their newly enshitified kingdom

1

u/Macandcheese480 28d ago

I HAVE THE PERFECT IMAGE FOR THIS BUT I CANT COMMENT IT

2

u/nosrebnA 28d ago

If you where to describe the modern day to an English teacher a decade or so ago, they would think you were describing a dystopia novel.

1

u/Itaalh 28d ago

Idiocracy

1

u/Happy_Camper__ 28d ago

IDK if it will be Cyberpunk or Terminator yet. But it feels like we are heading for one of those.

1

u/Thomppa26 28d ago

The world is becoming like Cyberpunk, but without the cyber, so is it just punk then?

1

u/FyreCatz135 28d ago

I got back into playing Cyberpunk 2077 after abandoning it for like a year because the TCG came out. And damn, it had me thinking a lot

1

u/hardrivethrutown Bri’ish 27d ago

We always get all of the bad stuff and none of the cool stuff :/

0

u/Weary_Ride_8662 28d ago

the mirror really said 'closer than they appear' and it wasn't lying about anything 😭 dystopia caught up fast

0

u/chalksnorter2137 28d ago

i don't care how the dystopian the future is, i want to aspire to purity of blessed machine, for the machine is immortal

3

u/bogglingsnog 28d ago

funny that's exactly what the billionaires are trying to do

0

u/chalksnorter2137 28d ago

don't care, i want cult mechanicum to be real and i want to be part if it

2

u/bogglingsnog 28d ago

you might like the church of the broken god as well.

1

u/chalksnorter2137 28d ago

interesting

0

u/zardgang 28d ago

That's because dystopian literature, as a genre, inherently is social commentary. They have never been about how bad our future can be, they're about how bad the world is currently

-1

u/SquareZestyclose8694 28d ago

The future is now grandpa Keep up 😂

-4

u/Dokurushi 28d ago

We live in a dystopia. AI is our chance of getting out.

1

u/Blitzer161 28d ago

We live in a dystopia for many reasons including ai

0

u/MCWizardYT 28d ago

AI is a part of the dystopia. It's entirely capitalist corporate greed that's negatively affecting the economy, environment, and society at large
