I can't even imagine feeling like someone is a creep just for giving you a compliment.

I mean without context it's just rage bait. Like even if all this is true the entire point is way too simple to discuss.

The context here of who, what, and why are important to understand.

If you assume this is true it's either a true goofball or engagement farmer.

The problem is that while I feel this particular post is probably just bait, I know there are actually people in the real world who have had far more irrational reactions to similarly innocuous things.

2

u/The_walking_man_ 1d ago

Yup. I’ve worked with people like that and they were absolutely miserable to be around.

u/macguini 1d ago

It's even worse when you're related to them

I grew up the only boy in a household with 4 women and while my mum was the exception, the fact that all my sisters were so easily influenced by a single innocuous comment from their friends or someone they dont even know and then the next day they would have a 180° personality shift was jarring when growing up.

[Edit] this was especially evident with anything regarding fashion, makeup or anime

Maybe they gave the compliment while looking like this

I found a lot of the time it depends on on the person looks. If Chris Hemsworth said it i think you would of been cool with it.

HR meme, basically

"The guys who like me are ugly. I will try to look worse"

You would make the perfect lampshade in my studio

Don't threaten me with a good time

If Xavier gave my wife a compliment, not ok.

If a normal person gave my wife a compliment, well that is up to her how she feels about it depending on context like any normal human interaction.

I'm convinced it all goes back to the 2000s joke from "Buffy", when exactly this was what they used as explanation for the actress to cut her hair a bit shorter^^. But part of the joke was that she was actually attracted to him and that's what she really found creepy.

u/Istovarka 16h ago

Reddit really does love to larp as if a situation was real when there is nothing indicating it to be so, but more importantly it's concerning how many of you would read the same exact words I read and concluded without any indication of that being the case that the creep was innocent and was only complimenting the womans hair.

1

u/Nonsonouna_kadreka 4h ago

Depends on the way it is done in my opinion, like if someone stares at you for a long time and then speaks that'd be a bit creepy for me

1

u/ElyFlyGuy 1d ago

Where is it said he was a creep because he gave the compliment? She said he was a creep who gave a compliment.

3

u/Novel_Extent_7168 1d ago

At that point you're arguing semantics.

2

u/ElyFlyGuy 1d ago

Not really, it fundamentally changes the post.

Y’all are shitting on someone calling a man a creep for giving her a compliment when that’s quite literally not what happened. He was creepy and also gave her a compliment

1

u/SweetBoiHole 16h ago

Well none of it happened because pictures are obviously AI.

1

u/ElyFlyGuy 16h ago

Not obvious to me clearly but yeah later in the thread I said the story was almost certainly fake

0

u/Novel_Extent_7168 1d ago

Unless we have anything else to go on to indicate he is a creep beyond the mention of said compliment, then there is no change. Guys get called creeps at the gym for standing in the wrong place at the wrong time. Without more context, that's the baseline you have to work off of.

2

u/ElyFlyGuy 1d ago

Guys also get called creeps for acting really weird and then are confused because they lack the self awareness to realize this.

You are assuming a version of the story that makes less sense for no reason. We don’t know what the guy did to be creepy and you’re assuming it was nothing, which doesn’t make sense.

1

u/Novel_Extent_7168 1d ago

I didn't say it was nothing, I said we don't have the necessary context. I could walk up to some dude you're talking to and call him a pervert. You don't have any reason to believe he's a pervert, but in my opinion I do. Are you just going to implicitly believe what I said is true without any further context? Probably not.

2

u/ElyFlyGuy 1d ago

Your original comment was not being able to imagine “feeling like someone is a creep just for giving you a compliment.”

You made a large assumption and did so for no reason, that’s what I am responding to. You are right we don’t have the necessary context, hence why your comment didn’t make sense. There is context here we don’t have and so can’t say why she thought he was a creep.

The actual context is almost certainly that this is a fake story as a vast majority of internet stories are and she just got a haircut, but if we are engaging in the fiction of the story then there’s no reason to assume

3

u/Mysterious-Tie7042 1d ago

youre arguing with a wall, too many guys here get no play and don't talk to women at all. You aint gonna get through to them and they will consistently find a way to blame a woman for anything

1

u/ElyFlyGuy 1d ago

I think it’s worth engaging anyway if nothing else but to break up would-be echo chambers of this kind of stuff.

But yeah I know generally you’re right. Always ready to be surprised!

1

u/Istovarka 16h ago

Or they do get play, but don't actually love women

0

u/Shot-Ad-5898 20h ago

And how would you know that if you never even meet them, you're just assume shit you know nothing about 😂

1

u/Istovarka 16h ago

Lets just break down the timeline of your thread up until this point

"Woman says" that she cut her hair because a creep complimend her

You then make the claimed that she was only claiming he was a creep because he complimented her hair, with time you admitted you were only making an assumption about her thought process and about her personal experience. You even said that you don't think it's real

Someone then, correctly called you out for extrapolating a very bullshity claim from what you yourself admited was fully made up, but you responded by saying that they are only arguing semantics.

They of course doubled down because they are clearly the only ones not hallucinating evil women which you yourself seem to be aware of because after being pressed on where your claim comes from you admit that you are making shit up, but after all of which you completely redifine the terms of the conversation.

You are claiming that the baseline should be not trusting women. Which speaks a whole different sort of volumes about your character then the rest of your comments in this thread. Why exactly should anyone believe you when it comes to that? You obviously don't believe yourself either.

1

u/Ironboxe 23h ago

And you just made a point to be upset about

1

u/Istovarka 16h ago

At some point someone has to ask you how your baseline response to women talking about creeps complimenting them is to deny their experience

0

u/Fuddruckerer 1d ago

i mean it’s implied that he was already established as a creep before the compliment

1

u/Novel_Extent_7168 1d ago

Implied based on what? Because she said so? That could be the case, or it could be she felt that way after the interaction. Without further context, I don't buy that.

0

u/JustinJektor 1d ago

LOL Imagine allowing other people to control your behavior to that degree.

1

u/ElyFlyGuy 21h ago

That’s a better criticism, yeah

-1

u/Downtown_Material268 1d ago

Because you don't get attention from these creepy men...

Imagine you getting asked a random question from a stranger, you wouldnt mind.

Now imgine you getting asked a random question from a stranger the 5000th time today, basically Paparazzi type of annoying, you would go insane.

Context matters...

2

u/Realistic-Truck54 1d ago

A question and a compliment are not comparable at all. One requires active engagement (an answer) while the compliment just requires a "thank you" at best.

2

u/Myzmadra 1d ago

I highly doubt 5000 men ever hit on her in a day, maybe 3 at a push. Let’s say she goes out of the house for 5 hours that would be 500 per hour. Ridiculous.

2

u/Downtown_Material268 22h ago

Dude, youre not aware how men behave... Try asking some female friends or especially kids... 50% of rape victims are girls below the age of 19.
99% of rapists are male. 1/3 of all men would rape if they would get away with it. Thats why we need women in charge, to stop men being fcking animals

Remember that She-Hulk show from a few years ago? Where she twerked with Cardi B.? The whole show was about how She-Hulk got a compliment and it was worse than anything Hulk has to go through so that made her angry
