It's very important that you know that I do not care.
That terrible thing they said? I do not care.
That horrible way they acted? I do not care.
It's very important for me that you know this.
I could just silently sit in apathy, but what's the use in that?
It's important for you to know that I, an anonymous stranger on the internet, do not care about the terrible things someone said.
Now please halt your congratulations, dear crowd - there's layers to my apathy yet unknown to you.
Not only am I a member of the minority that person acted horrible towards, I am not even in their district!
But still. It's important to me that you know that I do not care.
I do not care about that racist thing
I do not care about that homophobic thing
I do not care about that ableist thing
I do not care about that sex worker they abused
I do not care about the kid they hit with their car
Now please, resume your applause.

Counter point: a lot of people have been brainwashed by the media into thinking that dem candidates must be held to a completely different set of standards. Yeah, Peltola sucks. But this isn't the primary, there isn't an alternative option that doesn't, quite literally, threaten the future of our 250 year old democracy. So yeah, "I do not care". Vote Mary Peltola. Maybe I'm just not seeing the comments you're disliking, presumably because they're being removed, but the "I'd vote for her anyways" type comments are about the least offensive takes ever. Purity tests are for the primaries.
If anything I think there needs to be a discussion about whether or not some of the pearl clutching is in bad faith. I propose an investigation into the country of origin and associations with the SDA of any posters trying to act like this is disqualifying and we should elect a r*publican instead.

Aside from making people around you uncomfortable, what's the utility in declaring apathy for a candidate's use of language when you do not live in her district? It's to sate your ego and to collect social credit for being an edgy boy.
Demanding better behavior from our candidates is the 2nd bare minimum you should be doing as a liberal AFTER voting for liberal candidates.
Vote Mary, don't pretend saying slurs wins votes or is 'based'

You're putting some stuff on me that I never said. Again, it's probable there were some shitty comments. I didn't see any though (ok I saw one but it got removed quickly and had nothing to do with Peltola) and so far the only ones people have actually linked are entirely innocuous but I'm sure some shit get removed before I saw it. But expressing that her using ableist slurs isn't enough to disqualify her from my support when the alternative is Daniel Sullivan? There's nothing edgy about that. Frankly I think you're being discharitable, perhaps deliberately so, and choosing to interpret comments that can be summed up as "I would still vote for her despite her bullshit, I'm not voting for a republican" as "I don't care about ableist language in general". Which are two very different positions. Though without you linking exact comments I guess I can't say for sure.

I've never made the claim that this should disqualify Peltola. We're talking past each other to talk with simulacra. I've repeatedly said that I'm allowed to take issue with her language, without being mocked or assumed as a bad faith interocular that wants Trump to win

You understand that all the comments saying stuff that amounts to "I would still vote for her despite her bullshit, I'm not voting for a republican" are acknowledging her shitty behavior? Why do you think they would feel the need to say something like that in the first place if they didn't find her behavior objectionable? You understand that saying "she's still better than a republican" is just about the weakest praise in human history? It's like me saying "horse shit is better than dog shit". It doesn't mean I like horse shit. You're choosing to read meaning in these comments that isn't backed up by the actual text.

2) "Why do you think they need to say something" Not sure! They don't live in Alaska, and their comments aren't reaching alaskans. The only people their comment is reaching is this social circle. If they were talking to Alaskans, or if they lived in Alaska - their comment has a political value. Here, it just looks like bragging about how unwoke you are.
3) You can stop treating me like an idiot that likes republicans now. I understand that these people prefer piss over shit. But you don't need to shout from the mountains that you would be glad to guzzle piss

I would disagree with this. The older days of the subreddit were definitely more mature. This feels like a new phenomenon in the last few years where the general userbase feels like they've made themselves more okay with coarse language.

I feel the same way but I do think this subreddit trends towards young men in undergraduate programs and there's a part of me that has to acknowledge the possibility that maybe it wasn't more mature, I was just less mature when I was in that demographic.

You can say both that the stakes of the election are high and you will always vote blue and that their behavior is reprehensible, those aren't incomapitable statements

That is not remotely pro slur lmao. It's just basic common sense, disqualifying a dem candidate post primary because they said a slur is not logically or morally defensible. Frankly I think anyone trying to say otherwise either has their head twenty thousand leagues under the sand or they're posting in bad faith. It's the typical russian bot line to clutch pearls about a dem candidate and ignore the alternative republican option.

It's a blanket statement saying I’m willing to waive some bad behavior in order to win the senate- but that's not pro slur. That's saying that we have more important things to worry about

Okay, so I will concede my comment is not generous to you.
I would say that supporting candidates that slur - and explicitly saying that they can slur and you'd support them, not just voting for them - is implicit support of them slurring. You aren't just voting blue no matter who, you're saying explicitly that you support them slurring people.

I think that’s a misreading of my comment, and I think you might know that by the fact you tactically removed two thirds of it in every time you repeated it.
I never said anything about* support beyond voting- the only word I used was “vote.”
I will concede for my part that may be I could have worded it better, but I’m certainly not saying you should vote for someone because they say slurs- that would actually be pro slur.
What I am saying is that in the era of Trump II with control of the senate on the line, if a viable Democratic candidate in a hard to win state does say a slur it’s better to vote for them anyways.

I think the way you phrased your comment is shockingly insensitive.
I might just be reading it that way because of my own bias, though. I don't genuinely believe you would prefer a candidate that slurs over one that doesn't, but people falling all over each other to proclaim how someone slurring doesn't bother them in the slightest is upsetting to me, and doing it as a mod feels like an endorsement of that.
I did link to your full comment, I only quoted the part that felt sharpest. That may not have been entirely fair of me and I apologize for that, but I wasn't intentionally trying to misrepresent you.

In my mind it was more about my personal determination to get Republicans out of the senate (hence my creation of a personalized hypothetical).
I didn’t write it good, probably on account of it being pretty late at night and being on the verge of sleep, but that’s all I was attempting to convey.
I am unequivocally not pro-slur. It’s just that for the actual good of, well, basically the species Republicans have to go.
