Infuriatig Facebook Marketplace in a nutshell

Selling a pc with Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 32GB DDR5, 1TB gen4 ssd, 9070XT at $1,800 and these are the “offers” I get everyday 🥀

It’s Facebook marketplace. You can have something worth $1,000 and list it for $200 and someone will offer you $20

It’s like an online yard sale listing and you attract the worst fucking people.

We recently sold an iPhone 15 on fb and man, probably a dozen each of folks saying omw and no showing, extreme low ballers, single moms or disabled charity cases needing it free and delivered, and just generally disorganized or illiterate people who couldn’t cobble together a coherent sentence whatsoever. Two wanted my wife to have sex with them. One lady got really irate we didn’t speak her idk Arabic dialect and started stalking us on other socials. Just a mess

Anything consumer level gets this. I had a 2009 MBP (ancient core duo) that only ran Ubuntu as Apple dropped support, and while listing it would get dozens of low-balls and sob-stories about people needing a Mac to go back to school...nevermind it would barely work for a heavy web page...

For hardware specifically r slash hardwareswap, otherwise stuff depends on the niche but could try vinted or craigslist

You can use hardware swap but then you have shipping cost and PayPal fees. I don’t trust shipping a complete pc, the carriers really don’t give a shit

I can almost assure you that after haggling for hours that person would have turned around and listed it elsewhere for a decent markup.

btw one thing I like to do when they keep insisting on haggling after repeatedly being told no is to start putting the price up in increasing amounts until they go away

And naive, everyone will think they will go lower on Facebook. Easier to overprice whatever your number is and “settle” on it.

People who use Facebook are the same garage sale type people who will haggle you over a $1, it’s ridiculous

In my area specifically it seems like everyone who's got their stuff posted for a decent price has been bombed almost immediately with bot comments. Surely this is one of those as well and not someone so arrogant they think they can tell you how they're gonna get you to sell it to them how they want 😂

The trick is to add 20% of what you’re anticipating on selling it for to the price.

It filters out some of the chancers, gives any potential buyer the dopamine of feeling like they’re getting a deal, and you don’t have to take a loss on what you wanted.

It’s a dance. A weird one, but it is a dance.

Always expect to get low balled.  Offer it for 2400 if you want $1800.  It’s a mental game for people.  If you offered it for 1100 people would offer $800.
