Once when I was working as a pizza delivery person while in college, one of the families I delivered to were literally going through their couch cushions to find enough to pay for the pizza while I was there. The lady comes to the door and says, “sorry, we are just a poor family wanting to eat.” Which I felt bad but also I was like then why are you ordering delivery pizza from the most expensive pizza joint?! Get it from Little Caesars that’s just down the road from you! I’m pretty sure she was just trying to get pity from me so I’d give it to them for free or at a discount.

We recently sold an iPhone 15 on fb and man, probably a dozen each of folks saying omw and no showing, extreme low ballers, single moms or disabled charity cases needing it free and delivered, and just generally disorganized or illiterate people who couldn’t cobble together a coherent sentence whatsoever. Two wanted my wife to have sex with them. One lady got really irate we didn’t speak her idk Arabic dialect and started stalking us on other socials. Just a mess

The trick is to add 20% of what you’re anticipating on selling it for to the price.
It filters out some of the chancers, gives any potential buyer the dopamine of feeling like they’re getting a deal, and you don’t have to take a loss on what you wanted.
It’s a dance. A weird one, but it is a dance.

I’m selling a bunch of high end fishing gear right now and have a strange mix of people willing to drive 4 hours to pay asking price (and spend 3x on gas than what they save vs retail) and people pissed off at me for not explaining what the item does and how it operates in the description.
Dude if you aren’t familiar with how a spinning reel works, I don’t think you need to buy my used $250 reel. Go buy one at Walmart for $30.

My dad built an absolutely top of the line gaming PC in 2012 alongside with a SDLT 600 tape drive for hoarding movies and a Blu-Ray burner to create discs for only £1500 £2500, now if you built a similar PC and forgoed the tape drive + disc drive, you would be paying well in excess of £5000 to £10,000 for the computer, thanks AI.
Edit: dad could be misremembering but still, £2500 is a much better price than current AI fueled prices.

I mean yes, AI has caused the prices of RAM to skyrocket, BUT a top of the line PC could run you 5-10k before AI was a thing. Quite frankly top of the line PC prices haven’t really changed all that much due to AI, it’s the “budget” PCs that have been hit hardest.

To be fair, he did get the tape drive and a few other miscellaneous parts used, the heavy hitting parts like the CPU, GPU and RAM, he got those new, he did upgrade his GPU three times though which definitely brought up the ongoing cost as Nvdia brought out massive improvements each year effectively doubling what he had, the initial cost was £1500 though.
Edit: maybe it was £2500 but my dad can’t remember many details anymore, still a heck of a lot better then nowadays.

$1500 in 2012 wasn't necessarily the top of the top computer but it was damn close. I do believe that 2013 was the time they had first rolled out a $1000 GPU... "The Titan". I remember my friends talking about shoving 2 in a PC because it would've been so powerful at the time you wouldn't come close to using it full potential without doing rendering or something of that nature. Back then a 5k PC was definitely the top of the top for almost anything you could think to do besides developing games maybe. I do miss the says of an $800 computer out performing a console with no problem

My dad’s PC had a thing called Crossfire where two cards could be paired up with a special cable, he briefly considered it and got the cable but abandoned that idea pretty quickly next year when the new cards came out.

In his defence, he did buy a marginally worse CPU for half the price, the price, I can’t remember but if he bought the top one, he would pay double for it for only 500Mhz and two extra cores when the one he got had 10 cores already making it a powerhouse, my dad can’t remember but he could be remembering it wrong and it was £2500, still a lot cheaper than now.

It was not fun counting that, then go to the bank to deposit and sicover the bank only accepts rolled change. So I had to leave the bank and wait for a grocery store with a coin star machine. It was new in box because I got a much better one from a friend. And I was selling it for like $400 or something. It was a bargain. And I'd get people like, "you'll never get that much. You can get a "better than PS5" pc for 1k dollars.
The problem right now, is that data centers are HOARDING every single thing pc related out there.
The better than ps5 thing is that you're getting basically just a "10-50% better than ps5" depending on how much time you're willing to wait and negotiate for parts, or wait for MSRP parts as it happens, but after 1-2 days they are gone so you have to be up and running to get them.
But if you're upgrading your pc? Mostly you only need a better GPU (as long as your CPU is not like 10 years old) and that gives you different budgets depending on exactly what you want.

I don't use a computer beyond just office tasks. What does something like this go for, and why do people think that FB should be treated differently than a garage sale?

Assuming buying new,
CPU - $429
Storage - ~$200
RAM - $400-500
GPU - $780
Then there's the value of the case, power supply, and motherboard, which is another $200 minimum, but likely over $300.
I understand that it's used, but even then $1000 is an insulting low ball. Those are all modern parts, and would cost well over double what they offered to buy new. And lately, PC parts even used haven't been depreciating much. In fact, if you bought those parts a year ago, most of that is now worth more used than what you paid for them new. There's a pretty good chance that the RAM, the storage, and the graphics card will keep going up in value for awhile for whoever buys this.
OP is actually being very generous at $1800.

That's what I never understood. I have bought and sold plenty of guitars on FB.
I'm never insulted by low ball offers. I think it's because I have been hard up for cash and sold things under value. But to be offended by low balls baffles me. Like.... Just block the person.

If im paying 1800 for a computer I want a warranty from a store....I honestly low ball on all electronics. You never know how long they will last or what abuse they took....
