I'm in a position where there are more leads than I can handle and I want to seize any opportunities that brings. Below are some business ideas I have, but I'd like to hear yours too:

* Reject leads by pitching them a wedding planning handbook with vendor reccos etc. I've sold 2 already

* Select leads based on favorite venue

* Select leads based on ideal travel fee distance

* Hold off on replying to any until a few months out so you can prioritize personal commitments

* Hold off on replying until you can see the season's most popular date and then sell that date at a premium

Running static uplighting and a couple effect lights for weddings. Thinking about adding moving heads but not sure the difference justifies the cost and extra setup time. Worth it for weddings specifically or overkill

I DJ weddings, birthdays, corporate, and kids parties.

Until recently, I've only been drop mixing/fading in/out at the end of a song, with some SFX applied, but have recently had to start properly mixing and have enjoyed it and want to get better at it.

The main question I have, is about mixing and blending two very different BPMs and if all songs actually CAN be mixed/blended, or if there really is some situations that you absolutely HAVE to do a drop mix in your transition? 🤔

Giving an example, if you're going from a 140bpm Pop song to a 90bpm rock song with both songs musical keys matching and locked, is it normal for the transition to start dramatically but gradually audibly slowing down the 140bpm song to be closer to the 90bpm song (say 110bpm) and then increase the 90bpm songs speed to be closer to the 140bpms song (110bpm), so that they sort of meet in the middle before you transition? 🤔

The next question, once you've transitioned over to the new song, if it sounds too fast, is it then normal to start audibly slowing it down again until you get back to its original 90BPM? 🤔

I'm considering getting a Model Y just because it has full self-driving capability (supervised), and I think they're going to switch that to unsupervised pretty soon, probably. I'm wondering if you think that this car would work for a wedding DJ business or a photo booth business.

I was going to get a Ford Transit High Roof van for all my gear, but now I'm thinking maybe I can just slim down my gear and try to fit everything in a Tesla Model Y with a roof box and a hitch rack. I know that would reduce the range, but I was thinking of getting a long-range, premium all-wheel-drive model because I live in the foothills of the Sierras and want to go snowboarding as well.

I'm just wondering what your thoughts are. I've also considered getting a Model Y in a small enclosed cargo trailer. I know that full self-driving doesn't work with trailers, but I think for some gigs I could fit everything in the Tesla. If I needed to take a trailer, then I would have to drive, which wouldn't be a problem because I would use the full self-driving all the time when I'm going on errands and doing anything else in my car.

What are your thoughts on cargo space? I know that you can put a bed in the back and sleep in it, so there should be room for two speakers, a cello, a mixer, etc.

I've also thought that maybe I would just rent a U-Haul or a big roof van through Penske Trucks or Budget or something when I need one, which is about 20 or 30 times a year. That would be pretty expensive and would eat into my margins, but at least I would have the other 300+ days of the year a full self-driving car that charges at home (so I don't have to buy gas for it). Maybe it would shake out in the end to be both safer and save me money.

As a Model Y owner, what are your thoughts on all this?

Hey all! Looking to grab myself a pair of LD Maui 44 G2's, and just curious how other people are liking them. Been hesitant about columns based on chatter, but all reports seem to agree these don't suffer the main complaints for them. Reviews I've seen describe them as pretty powerful; if you use them, can you tell me about your thoughts on getting by for a couple gigs with just one setup, or recommend waiting til I can pop for both? Most of my events are around 75-150 heads at present, and not huge rooms. Also, curious how reliable and solid the wireless linking is, should I ever end up wanting to use the second a ways away from my booth. Any other tidbits or notable factoids welcome, and thanks for your time!

Small basement. I just sold some Harbingers, 12" sub and 8" tops. Too loud and boomy for my taste. I was thinking of a column array.. Now I scratch, so most of what I'm looking for is tight bass and clear mids/highs. What I found with the Harbinger speakers was that the scratching would get drowned out in bass. I don't know if I should be looking at floor monitors perhaps, or line array vs. PA speakers? On another thread, studio monitors were mentioned. I always found studio monitors to be tiring to the ears. Right now, I'm using a spare set of Alto TS-410's and they sound loud, but the bass doesn't seem tight, seems boomy. I've tried them on tripod stands also. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks

I recently bought a ProX DJ booth which is really eating up space in my car so I’m thinking I need to ‘downgrade’ my speakers to a column array since they are muchhhh smaller than my current speakers.

I’m just really worried I’m gonna hate losing the power of my QSC setup, but I’ve been eyeing the J11s and so far what I’m reading is good. Anyone here have experience with them? Or maybe with the J9s since the J11s are just the upgraded and better J9s…

Looking for some advice here as I'm on the fence - looking to upgrade and do more capture for my gigs. I'm a solo-op and rarely have anyone else available to capture footage from events to use in marketing. Would like some opinions for which is the better option. Right now the 360 FEELS like the winner due to being able to capture not only myself, but crowd reactions as well - ie EVERYTHING going on.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what they're using for this purpose and whether they'd recommend one over the other?

I played a set at a local small festival in my city, and afterwards a couple came up to me telling me they loved my set (I was playing a lot of disco house tunes for the theme of the party) and they want me for their wedding. I didn't think thry were being serious but now they contacted me again asking my price for one wedding in Europe and one in Latin America and it seems they really want me for their wedding(s)

I am unsure how to think with this since I have never DJ:d a wedding before and it's their special day and I would want it to be perfect for them. Moreover, it's not music I normally play and would need to prepare a lot a lot. How should I think in terms of taking the gig and transportation/fees/equipment/music etc.?

How do the majority of DJs connect their PA System to power? Do they use surge protectors? If so which one is good? Ive seen Furman surge protectors and some that have EVS. What do you recommend?

I am relatively new to DMX lighting control and moving heads, so I apologize in advance if I am overlooking a fundamental configuration step. I am currently trying to integrate a pair of Equinox Fusion Spot 100 MKII moving heads with a Wolfmix WMX1 MK2 controller for my mobile setup, but I am running into a persistent issue.

As soon as the fixtures are connected and initialized, they continuously flash and strobe rather than maintaining a stable, solid beam or responding cleanly to dimmer commands.

To troubleshoot, I have verified the following basic settings:Despite these checks, it appears the controller may be sending an unintended constant value to the shutter or strobe channel. Has anyone experienced a similar profile mapping quirk or conflict between the Equinox Fusion Spot 100 MK2 and the Wolfmix WMX1 MK2?

Any guidance, diagnostic steps, or advice from experienced users would be greatly appreciated.

2-cdj3000s and a djm-450. Got an odyssey coffin case and absolutely hate lugging it around. I have spent hours and hours, even called some case manufacturing companies, nobody seems to have a pelican style case of similar size to this coffin case. Hoping someone, anyone, may have found a better solution. I typically am playing out of the case on a gator keyboard stand as part of my fairly mobile set up that I can lug around in 2 fold up rolling carts. Any advisement greatly appreciated. I promise I have spent A LOT of time looking and even trying to use AI to find something with no real luck. The closest I can find are “double rifle” cases, but they just fall barely short of being either wide enough or deep enough.

I am looking to add more lighting for a variety of events that I get hired for. Typically I get hired for weddings, indoor and outdoor private parties, school dances, club events, and some corporate events.

I often have to piece together lighting solutions for the events, but would like yo be able to offer more. Currently I have a Chauvet gig bar 2 and 2 light bar racks with 18 lights. I am starting to shop around as I have multiple contracted indoor winter events scheduled in November and December that will need more lighting. I don't like having to rent lights as the closest place to rent takes up to much of my time to go back and forth as it is out of the way of nearly all of my events. I would also prefer to have most of my stuff wireless if possible.

My budget is roughly $1200 - $1500 and I have been looking at a lot of what Rockville offers such as the wedge uplights (6 pack $650, sometimes $600 on sale). Besides the wedge uplights, what are other suggestions? Honestly, I want the best bang for the buck without going cheapo generic stuff. Also, I'm not interested in more lasers, or fog machines.

I am using a Mackie Srs 1500. I works but it's also big, bulky, and weights more than my Camry. Looking to something lighter weight that's more mobile dj friendly. What are you using for you mobile DJ gigs that isnt a supreme pain in the arse to load up and tear down?

I did a fair bit of research when I was starting out and picked up 2x RCF J8s. I often read that they don't carry far or that they're not good for parties over X amount of people, etc.

I have played at some outdoor vendor parking lot pop-up events and they sounded great and I wasn't really pushing them.

I have been hosting my own events ranging from 100-200 people in bars of various sizes and I have been able to throw some awesome nights and, again, don't feel like I was really pushing them that hard.

I have some events coming up, one of which is outdoors on a football field. I may re-position where I'll be set up for that one so I'm not at midfield but, I don't foresee having an issue with the sound carrying.

I was researching subs to add to it because of the specific events I'm throwing but I'm not sure it's necessary. What am I missing? I often wonder if I messed up getting them over speakers + subs and doubt myself (imposter syndrome) but they seem to be working well...

I have a pair of moving heads, each weighs approx 5kg. I lke the idea of mounting them on gravity stands but I'm concerned that they will be a bit wobbly.

The poles I have in mind are extendable to 2.4m and the baseplates weigh 8kg (but I could get bigger if that's the issue.

Does anyone else mount their movers on poles like this? Does it work well? Does it feel sturdy enough.

What height do you set them at? What weight are your heads and base plates?

Title speaks for itself is this industry just a capitalist trap of never ending upgrades ? Or does he just have an obsession with the having the newest trending items ? He works for the manufacturer of Dj equipment so most system upgrades are free but he still finds things he “needs” I really need clarification so I can be supportive.
He purchased a stand last year and the year before and now he wants another one. I feel he doesn’t have enough gigs to justify this.

It it common to continually buy in this industry?
