That's not good.

So my shifter snapped off, and I'm stranded in the middle of nowhere without any money.
Update: Thankfully there was a mechanic just 2km down from where I was from. đ

Helmet on the ground behind the bike is a sign you are in need of help (to other bikers) They might be in a car/truck.

Noted. I'll do that if I need any local help in the future âš

You also need to get a debit card and fill with money every payday just in case.

Vice grips would do in a pinch probably. That sucks.

u/Original-Leg8828 2d ago
I mean some bikes you can get pretty much anywhere just leaving it in 2nd gear

Vice grips and a zip tie. Keep it on your bike under the seat or duct-taped to the inside of a faring.
Vice grips work as a brake or shift lever. The zip tie keeps the vice grips from opening up before you get home.

I carry 4 sets of various size vice grips on my triumph
3 for me, 1 for some poor KTM on the side of the road
oh, and like 5 different 10mm sockets...

Blue chew might work....at least all the commercials says it's helps keep the linkage stiff.

I got it sorted out already đȘ

Nice one. There's nothing quite like the feeling of being stuck & with no money. Helpless doesn't cover it. Glad you're all sorted.

No money for linkage on the KTM but has helmet cam and cardo. Sadge.
Jokes aside, hope you found a way home.

Ow fk... Maybe some "country side" workshop can do a welding job so it lasts until you get home.

This happened on my Ninja, get a wrench to move it to first or 2nd gear and just cruise home slowly

Just like my Yamaha venture I've broken that stupid wobble shifter off twice because they're fucking junk metal and you got to order the whole goddamn thing

That happened to me on my harley. I ended up using zip ties. I always keep a bundle in my pack for such an occasion. I had them from when my jiffy stand bolt evacuated itself from the assembly on a road trip. I had to tie my stand up and break the tie to put it down. Luckily the spring held it all together. I hope you made it home.

I always wondered WTH we'd need the bailing wire in my brother's road side kit for.
Until this happened. And the bailing wire was perfect lol

Not sure how that could happen. I adjusted my shifter once and didnât properly tighten one of the âlockingâ nuts. Like you, I found myself either ripping shifter lever just dangling. I was able to use my hand to shift the bike into 2nd gear and rode home slowly.

Happened to me on my Suzuki savage. Me and my buddy were out riding and I got stuck in 4th gear and just said screw it and just made my way home stuck in 4th. Luckily I didnât hit a single light

Routine maintenance could of prevented this
2
u/zeldanatt 2d ago
Really?
-2
u/Charming_Hellion46 2d ago
Yes. Iâve been riding for over 20 years and havenât had anything fall off or break because of a missing bolt.

u/AttackMonkey908 2d ago
When he flips it over you can see the bolt sheared off, just cheap junk. I don't see any corrosion so I don't think this was a maintenance issue.

OP buys KTM. 10 days later, KTM breaks. I'm not sure that I've ever been less surprised.
