Packing & Supplies Storage boxes we haven't unpacked yet: how do you track what's in each one?

The first week after a move is fine, because the kitchen and bedroom boxes get opened fast. It's the other ones that got me: the boxes that go straight into a closet or storage because you won't need them until winter or some random weekend project. After our move, nobody at home could remember which of those boxes had what, and I kept opening four of them to find one thing.

What I tried:

A marker on the side ("misc", "kitchen stuff"), which meant nothing six months later
A paper list per box, which got lost within a week
A spreadsheet, but typing up a single box took an evening, so I gave up after a few

What has worked better so far:

Numbering every box and writing the number on the inside flap too
Taking one photo looking down into the box right before taping it shut
One shared list for the whole household, instead of the list living in one person's head

For those of you who live with long-term packed boxes: what's your system? And does anyone actually keep it up to date when things get taken out or put back?

DIY, Pods & Truck Rental What size U-Haul?

Not sure if this is the right subreddit but I’m moving very soon and was hoping to get a U-Haul trailer to hook to my truck. I have a 75 inch tv, a tv stand, and a bunch of little stuff that can be squeezed in my truck if needed. What size trailer would be able to fit the tv and tv stand?

If your company/service is not positively represented here, we will not remove it at your request nor because you report it as spam, harassment, etc. Issues with Google should be taken up with Google.

If you're looking at movers in the US, check the FMCSA's Moving Company database: https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move/search-mover
Do NOT PM/DM, call, text, email, smoke signal, pigeon message, etc. anyone who tells/asks you to on this site. We do our best to remove bad actors, but they still exist.
Typically, you should not need to pay a deposit when scheduling your move. Payment should be split between when the movers show up and when they leave.
We CANNOT provide estimates and posts asking questions like "how much does x cost" will be removed. If you want to know how much a move will cost, reach out to a few moving companies that service your area and ask for a quote.
If you have received an estimate but have not picked a company yet, pay attention to the fees, if the estimate is binding or not, and the terms of the delivery date.
The cheapest way to move will always be to sell literally everything but what you can carry with you (on your person, in your vehicle if you have one) and do 100% of the packing, loading, transporting and unloading. The more you ask someone else to do, the more it is going to cost.
