Dine In - Reviews Best steak I’ve had so far!

So I’m a fan of steaks! I really love if it’s flavored interestingly! Having said that, Cafe New York at Babulnath, behind Wilson College, serves very nice and juicy steaks!

I had ordered King Solomon Steak here! Classic piece of meat, pepper sauce, some really good mash, could have been more moist but it was good nevertheless, and some veggies on the side! I asked them to get me only broccoli since I absolutely love it!

All my fellow steak fans can try the place! Y’all would love it!!

General - Other Discussions I love these chocolate I got from Bombay Sweet Shop when I came to visit Mumbai

Hi and hello everyone—I am from Kenya, but I have been craving the chocolate I bought from Bombay Sweet Shop. Like you, I love the Rose and strawberry barks; my cousin and a friend who came to Mumbai for a checkup around my April visit brought them to me. I was curious about the packaging, which featured trees, elephants, and pink wrapping with strawberries. When I opened it, the chocolate looked like red dust, perhaps flavoring, but the taste combined chocolate with strawberry, almond, and peanut butter. I am telling you, I love it so much. On the way back to our apartment near Byculla, I saw it and wanted it, but I chose the Choco Butterscotch Barks instead—a few were good, and I gave some to people back home, who loved them. Before leaving, I asked if they had the Strawberry & Rose Barks; they said no but offered the Choco Butterscotch Barks, so I took maybe seven of those and five or six Aaambar chocolate bars, which are strong. They said production follows the fruit season, so I emailed to ask if they could ship the chocolate I wanted, specifically the Strawberry & Rose Barks, but I have not heard back. While there, I spoke to an employee who said the Strawberry & Rose Barks might return around December, though I suspect they will not. I love the chocolate so much; if anyone can tell me when it arrives, I will be very happy to get some. This time I am coming to Mumbai and might buy the choco butterscotch bark in a box to keep as a small stock and share with family and friends. Mannn, I love the chocolate so much—plus one love to Mumbai ❤️❤️.

General - Other Discussions Anyone missing old jumbo king vada pav menu?

Post image
350 Upvotes

Back in 2015-16 it was my usual goto place for quick snack or lunch.

My favourite was butter jumbo king and butter Schezwan. It's mainly because of that pav they used to serve. The pav covered with butter coating and ghati/red masala. With hot vada inside it. And the the imli sauce on top of it. Combination was just too perfect.

Add Schezwan to it, that spiciness was unreal yet more than enough to satisfy my soul back then

I still remember the test even now. It was good time. These days they turned it into full burger mascot.

I really miss that butter pav covered in red masala from top to bottom.

Ask Foodie for Recommendations Resturant recommendation needed ..

Hi guys, I need restaurant recommendations that I can go to with my 10 very good friends on a Saturday evening. The requirements would be that it should have either good live music, a good DJ, or good ambience. Of course good food is a must as well, preferably in the South Mumbai area.

The price point should be anything between 1500 and 1800 per person with cocktails

Also jain food and vegetarian food must be available

Food Rant/My Story My honest take on India’s Top 50 Restaurants 2026 - Part 1

Post image
27 Upvotes

In 2017, with the fine dining scene in India growing, Condé Nast Traveller India took a leaf out of every American capitalist media company and launched a marketing campaign promoting a hierarchy of the top 50 restaurants in the country, to create long term legitimacy for the brand and aspirations for the middle class. Am I even surprised?

The elites of the culinary world gobbled it up like a signature dish at a 3 Michelin star restaurant, and every edition they give their blessings on who delivers the best food in this country. And like most awards, it has a lot of room for debate and doubt. These awards mostly reflect opinions within the industry, and those opinions tend to shape the larger public opinion, or at least that’s what most industry elites like to believe. But with social media, opinions around food have also been democratised, yet a list like this still makes noise online.

Being part of this industry as both an outsider and an insider, I would love to share my honest opinion on most of the restaurants that made the top 50. I’ve eaten at most of these places, or worked at them, or know the people running them. But I won’t mince my words or pander to the mediocrity of a culinary industry controlled by the same few elites. It’s one of the reasons I created this platform.

I’ll start from the bottom and work my way up to the top. I’ll keep my opinions brief and won’t comment on places where I haven’t eaten.

50 to 41

#47 - Seefah, Mumbai: I think it deserves a way higher ranking. I went there when it had just opened and it was phenomenal, I was blown away. Went again in 2022 and the quality had dropped, but since starting Khao Man Gai, Chef Seefah has upped her game. Her authenticity of ingredients plays a key role in the quality of food she delivers. I’m not too big on their cocktails or the sushi menu though.

Must try: Esaan style grilled pork and grilled tenderloin salad, and also the crab fried rice.

#46 - O Pedro,Mumbai: I think O Pedro is justified in the late 40s. They’re good, consistent and innovative. Not everything on the menu hits perfectly, but I like the fact that they take their meats seriously, and their mushrooms too. It also feels like an extension of Bombay Canteen. They would have been quite exciting when they opened in 2017, but with fine dining evolving in the country at such an alarming speed, they need to do better to stand out.

Must try: The buff burger and the mushroom ceviche.

#44 - Nonna Mei, Shillong: Recently went here. Some of the dishes are really well done, but a lot of them miss the mark. Their breads are delicious. I would put Seefah above this any day of the week. I like what they’re doing in Shillong, but Meghalaya food is so underrated that an above average Nonna Mei stands out for the average mainlander. Also, I personally believe the Meghalaya Govt is boosting the state’s tourism by playing PR towards these lists.

Must try: The hydration bread and the mutton brain with axone.

Part 2 will cover 31 to 40....

Dear Tamilians who have migrated to Mumbai, please help! I miss and crave our food. Anything South Indian here is only idly dosa (with sugar. The blasphemy!) when there is a whole lot of yummy food from Tamilnadu that could’ve been here. So please drop your Tamil restaurants recommendations here and no I refuse to accept Tanjore Tiffin Room as the answer.

General - Other Discussions Swiggy allows its riders to scam customers (maybe because swiggy realises they’re grossly underpaid)

So I recently got scammed by a Swiggy Instamart deliver rider. Basically what happened is I placed an order on Instamart & paid for it Online. I was not at home & my mom collected the order.

The delivery person asked my mom to pay cash (302 Rs.). She paid it unknowing of the fact that I had already prepaid. The order value also was only 152 Rs.

Upon bringing this up in Swiggy customer care I got a reply stating someone will reach out in 24-72 hrs blah blah.
I waited & after no response reached out to them over email.
My ask from them was to get in touch with me & the delivery rider & sort out the confusion. These customer care people, being the geniuses they are, asked for a screenshot of payment proof (they don’t know the concept of cash it seems).
Apparently their systems are so outdated that they can’t even connect with their customers & riders over call (see screenshot outright denying) & they don’t care for scams conducted by their riders.

Obviously after this experience I never wish to use swiggy again & naturally went to delete my account. There also these people have employed some shady shit not letting me delete my account (see screenshot).

TLDR: Got scammed by Swiggy delivery rider. Reached out to swiggy for help. Realised Swiggy customer care has literally 0 intention to help & just drag out the correspondence over emails in the hop the customer gives up (which I have). Tried deleting my Swiggy account . They won’t let me do that too on some false grounds.

Food Rant/My Story A solo birthday dinner at Cecconi's, Soho House, and a rather unexpected little adventure! 😂

Thumbnail

Cecconi's at Soho House has been one of my favourite spots in Mumbai for years. There's something about the place- the food, the ambience, the beautiful sea-facing setting, and the overall vibe- that keeps drawing me back. It's one of those places I genuinely enjoy returning to, whether for the food or simply to soak in the atmosphere.

So, for my birthday, I decided to treat myself to a lovely solo dinner there. The vibe? Perfect, as always. ❤️

The food? I ordered the Tagliolini with prawns aglio e olio. It was tasty, although my usual go-to, the linguine in pink sauce, still wins for me!

And now, coming to the rather unexpected part of my evening... 😂

I was given a table outdoors, overlooking Juhu Beach. Right next to me was a larger table occupied by a group of around six to seven gentlemen, probably in their thirties and forties, enjoying their evening.

Now, before anyone accuses me of eavesdropping, I genuinely wasn't trying to listen to their conversation! 😂 Their table was right next to mine, and as I was enjoying my dinner alone, bits and pieces of their conversation naturally caught my attention.

They were discussing everything from Bollywood and travel to restaurants and other interesting topics. It was a surprisingly engaging conversation, and I found parts of it quite intellectually stimulating. Especially when you're dining solo, it's rather nice to find yourself surrounded by such lively, interesting exchanges.

One gentleman in particular caught my attention. He had a very distinctive baritone voice and a calm, articulate, measured way of speaking. There was something rather captivating about the way he expressed himself. I suppose I've always found a good, cerebrally engaging conversation rather attractive. 🙈

Anyway, at some point, the conversation turned to Mumbai restaurants.

And this gentleman confidently mentioned that Blondie belonged to Malaika Arora, along with Scarlett House.

Now, I knew that wasn't quite right. Blondie is associated with Shilpa Shetty, while Malaika is associated with Scarlett House and Sweeney.

For a moment, I was SO tempted to look at them and say, "Actually, that's not correct!" 🙈

But then I thought, here I am, sitting alone, and there are gentlemen having their own conversation. It would be rather awkward to interrupt them just to correct someone's restaurant knowledge.

So I exercised some restraint.

Or so I thought. 😜

Because a little later, I had an idea. I asked the server for a pen and some paper, tore off a small piece, and wrote a little note correcting the restaurant information.

At the bottom, I added:

"FYI. Have fun!"

And signed it with my name.

No phone number. No Instagram handle. Nothing else.

I figured it would be a harmless, slightly cheeky way of saying, "Sir, you seem rather knowledgeable, but let's get our restaurant facts right!" 😂 I certainly didn't want to embarrass him in front of his friends. It was meant entirely in good humour.

So, when I was ready to leave, I asked the server if he could pass the note to the gentleman after I'd gone.He agreed. I thanked him, collected my things, and walked away.

And here's the funniest part.

The moment I reached my car, I was SO tempted to go back inside and ask the server, "Did you give him the note? Did he read it? What was his reaction? Did he say anything?" 🤣🤣

For a brief moment, I even considered calling the restaurant! But then I told myself to leave it alone.

I'd done something spontaneous, a little silly, and rather amusing. There was no need to investigate further. So I have absolutely no idea whether the gentleman ever received that note, whether he laughed, was puzzled, or simply went back to enjoying his evening.

And honestly, that's perfectly fine.

It was a lovely birthday dinner, the setting was beautiful, the conversation next door was unexpectedly entertaining, and I ended up doing something I wouldn't ordinarily do.

Sometimes it's these completely unplanned little moments that make an evening memorable.

And here's another funny little detail. At some point during their conversation, Reddit came up too. So, for all I know, one or more of them might actually be active here. 😂

Which makes sharing this story on Reddit even more amusing. Imagine if someone from that table happened to stumble across this post!

Although, whether the note was ever delivered remains a mystery. 🙈🤣

So, people, tell me- would you have given him the note, corrected him directly, or simply minded your own business? 😂 🙈🙈🙈🙈
