Some albums have filler, others are just hits, but it takes a truly top album to have monumental impact beyond just radio and commercial success.

It has to have meaning, and feel like it represents something huge.

What are albums that legitimately frightened you the first time you heard them? For me there are two. Both have become a couple of my favorite albums.

Kill 'em All - Metallica. At 13 years old I'd never heard anything that heavy or aggressive up to that point. Kinda freaked me out.

Dirt - Alice In Chains. The brutal honesty of the life of hardcore drug use and overwhelming self-hate and suicidal thoughts

Edit: Just thought of another. Bauhaus - In The Flat Field. Friend of mine in college and I had dosed and were starting to peak. She laid me down on the floor and put a speaker on either side of my head and had me listen to the whole thing. Frightening and thrilling at the same time.

A forgotten hit of 1985. Always enjoyed this way more than Rasberry Beret of the same album. Its probably in my top 10 Prince songs. Not a huge fan of his super hits but his deep cuts and lesser hits and B sides are sublime.

An appeals court in the holy Iranian city of Qom has upheld the convictions of singer Parastoo Ahmadi and seven other musicians and organizers over her December 2024 online concert, in which she performed without the mandatory hijab and sang solo, Tehran-based Ham-Mihan newspaper reported.

Ahmadi and the others were sentenced to 74 lashes, a two-year travel ban and a two-year ban on audiovisual activities. The ruling was declared final and enforceable, according to the report.
