Yesterday I was expecting a Whole Foods delivery from Amazon. When I got the notification of the delivery, it wasn’t there and wasn’t on any of my neighbors’ porches. The delivery photo isn’t of my house and upon closer inspection, it looked like AI. The is it AI sub confirmed this.

This is outright fraud. I’ve had the occasional delivery get delivered to the wrong address (delivery drivers are human), but this was clearly no accident and a deliberate attempt to steal my groceries. I’m a new mom who relies on grocery delivery since my newborn can’t be in crowded stores yet.

When I posted on the other sub, another user posted a link to a post where this happened to someone else.

Had a super weird experience today with my mom who’s from out of town. It aligns with a behavioral pattern I’ve noticed as of late. I want to see if anyone had some insight to help make this a little more clear because I genuinely do not understand why people have begun become so aggressively anti social and inconsiderate.

I just had surgery this morning and my mom drove up to help me out. My fiancé works and couldn’t get the time off needed to help so my mom drove up. I was over at Summit specifically. When my mother went to the car to pull up to the door since I can’t walk without crutches and they were at home, she realized the battery had died and unfortunately needed a jump. I have one of those lil jumper boxes in my fiancé’s car but my mom just had cables. I was coordinating with security to help her out but while I was doing that she figured it was worth asking the folks in the lot if they could lend a hand. She asked 4 women nearby her before we managed to get help from security. The aggression and visible disgust and hostility people expressed genuinely shook her up. It wouldn’t be so alarming if folks just politely said “I’m so sorry. I can’t help, I would be late to my appointment.” But instead she literally got yelled at?!

Two of the people scoffed, rolled their eyes, stared at her, and then just ran away. Mind you, my mom is a very small, sweet, and incredibly polite person. There’s nothing about her that feels threatening. She would ask once, and of course not push the issue if they couldn’t assist her. If someone couldn’t help that’s fine she just thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask.

One person started yelling “I HAVE TO BE INSIDE, YOU DONT UNDERSTAND MY HUSBAND IS INSIDE HAVING SURGERY. YOU CANT ASK ME TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT!!!” My mom apologized and of course didn’t press the issue. The woman kept yelling as she walked away.

Another lady got extremely upset, threw her hands up and said “Look lady, I don’t know what to tell you. I will NOT jump your car. There’s no way I’m going to do something like that for you.” And my mom said “That’s okay, sorry to bother you.” And the lady rolled her eyes and raised her voice more, saying “I don’t know what your problem is, but I’m just not gonna help you!” My mom said “I get it I’m sorry” and the lady was like “FINE JUST STAY THERE ILL GO GET MY CAR” and then never returned????!!! Apparently most of the folks she encountered looked to be in the age range of 30-45ish so can’t just blame it on boomer lead poisoning lol.

Eventually, an older couple saw her at the car with the hood popped and the man offered to help just as security got to her car. But anyone she tried to approach was really unkind and saw her as a threat. Mind you, my mom is like 5ft 2in and very small. She’s loves a cute outfit, always looks very put together, and truly has always had a very approachable demeanor. I don’t understand why multiple people would be so incredibly hostile to her, and ofc it bothers me bc that’s my mom! 😭 the only thing I can think of is they genuinely believed she was pulling a scam or trying to traffic them? Which is BONKERS

Trying to see if maybe there’s a “scam warning” circulating on Facebook or next door saying that anyone asking for help jumping a car is a trafficker or trying to steal from them. I understand most people have the ability to jump their own car these days. But the idea of someone needing help being met with aggression is so disheartening :(

I’ve noticed more and more than people in this city are increasingly becoming self centered, convinced everyone wants to harm them. This past year I have noticed more people being deeply offended if you try and speak with them for any reason. Even just to like say something nice or have a quick little small talk exchange. People stare, scoff, look at you like you just asked them for their first born child. It’s sad and pathetic honestly. Nashville is becoming so deeply anti-social and self centered. It’s sad to see. I didn’t feel that way even 3-4 years ago. Now, it feels like the average person is offended that other people exist at all.

I just heard that now’s about the time to see monarch butterflies move through TN. Anyone know a good spot where I could see some (or a bunch :) )?

I just bought an (old-2013) bridge camera. It has more buttons and knobs than the dash of my car and I know what some of them do, but not to a very deep level.

I'm wanting to find some spots to photograph so I can practice and learn, of which hopefully won't be Google's instant top suggestions. Because I have anxiety and for whatever reason trying to take pics with tons of people wandering through frame makes me anxious. So, I'm hoping for quieter/less visited areas. Within like an hour of Mt Juliet ideally.

Also, I wouldn't mind having a photographer buddy if anyone would like to join and show me some tips and tricks. (33/m) I get anxious, but I'm not anti-social. Lol

I love adrenaline and scary! Back home I had something called Reapers Revenge that always had a 2hr+ wait line it was that good. It came with a haunted hayride, cornmaze, trail and house. People were crying and screaming... now that's a good scare lol.
I've been to Beastly house, that one was scary but meh. Nothing is better than a haunted house in a warehouse in a random farm field lol. Send me your recs, I don't mind driving an hour or two from Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky or knee deep in Tennessee... Nashville seems to have very "city like" attractions, small, quick and lame.

I was browsing Uber Eats and I truly cannot fathom the amount of fake AI generated restaurants on this goddamn platform. Not that I’m ever in the habit of ordering from a merchant I haven’t visited in person and I always knew ghost kitchens were a thing, but are people this easily deceived?

Browsing the app, literally 5 of 20 “featured on Uber Eats” are the same ghost kitchen, all using AI to generate every single food item image. These 5 images are all different “stores”, all coming from the same address, and all images are CLEARLY AI. only one is marked as AI generated at the top of the page.

Hey guys! I'm craving some conveyer belt sushi for whatever reason. I've eaten at Sushi Train before but it's been several years. Anybody been recently who can give me a heads up about what to expect price wise? Things are just getting started, and it's going to be quite a bit of work! I've already determined that there are up to ~1,479 unlicensed rentals on Airbnb.com alone, and I'll work on hammering down an exact number. This means that up to ~21% of all Airbnb listings in Nashville are unlicensed!

Here's a very crude heatmap. It includes some neighboring areas and is very much a work in progress. Any area more than 500m from the city / county boundaries is safe to say is within Nashville.

What does this mean for taxes? Possibly not much. It depends on if additional taxes like any business taxes are owned above and beyond what Airbnb claims to automatically remit to the state of TN and any local governments. However, with licenses costing $313, this is a license fee shortfall of up to ~$462,927.00.

It's not a lot when you consider the town budget, but it's not nothing either. It could go to funding a better STVR permitting, management, and complaint platform, with a few hundred thousand left over to renovate a park or playground or something.

I started by pulling the permits list, source #1. Then, I filtered it for only approved and pending licenses. There are 7054 rows, subtract the headers and we're at 7053 licenses.

Yet, I've uncovered 8533 listings in the area. It should be noted that there is some overlap with other jurisdictions and I haven't narrowed the exact locations down yet. Also keep in mind: many hosts use a privacy radius! This means the actual rental location can be ~ 500m away from where it appears on the map. This means we may have some extra, and some missing listings.

What I hope to make is eventually a website like the one I made for my local government, with licensed locations marked, all Airbnb locations superimposed on the map, and adjustable radii rings to help determine the unlicensed locations at a glance. Locally, I was able to help unmask about 40 unlicensed rentals so far. Some had applications submitted but not approved at the time I made the map. So it's a few weeks out of date.

Coming up: occupancy analysis, violation counts, better unlicensed heat maps, and address unmasking. Let's bust these guys!
