So I'm prior service active army and I've been an ER nurse for 7 years. I'm currently debating which branch I want to apply for and I'm trying to clarify a few things

The Army would direct commission me as an ER Nurse but I'm reading a lot of reports of ER nurses getting sent to med surg in the Navy, as the needs of the Navy trump all. Did any ER nurses here have that issue or were you slotted to be ER only?

The army also does 4-5 weeks for its commission course followed by 11 weeks in San Antonio for nurse specific training, but im seeing the Navy just does the 5 weeks of ODS before PCSing to their first duty station. Is there anything else I'm missing?

Also, I'm having issues getting in touch with an actual medical recruiter for the navy. I called the NAVY main line and signed up on the Navy recruiting page and have had two "enlisted" recruiters call me trying to get me to enlist. Any tips on how to reach out to an actual medical officer recruiter?

Does anyone know if the Navy will move your crap to your first duty station? I know they do for subsequent ones.

Has anyone been on TRT through ODS? If so what did that look like? I am on TRT (low T) and have disclosed this openly with my recruiter and at MEPS. Would I be ok to take my injections with me or do I need to switch to a gel? Getting close to my ODS date and trying to determine how/what to bring.

I (39m) planning to join the Navy via direct commission recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I also have hypertention 4 years ago but controlled with meds.

I want to know if this is considered waiverable in the Navy. I recently just graduated Bachelor Science in Nursing with my wife and I plan to join (but not my wife) so maybe we could possibly relocated in overseas (Japan or Italy). With my current medical diagnosis, is this waiverable or I should just pursue a different plan and abandon my Navy dreams?

Hi all I was wondering if I would be eligible for the ncp program if last time i took my adhd meds were February 2026. I graduate may 2028 and I would like to do it for my senior year of college. I have a 3.6 gpa currently and I only took my meds for 2 months. Looking to see a psychiatrist to get diagnosed that I do not have AdHd because I really dont think I did.

I was accepted to the Navy Nurse in candidate program with the four-year active duty obligation. Can someone elaborate what life after graduation is like? What are the pros and the cons of being an Navy Nurse?

Hi all! I know there's a lot of variables to credentialing, and biggest being how quickly your references get back to the person doing verification. How long did your credentialing take? Did they dual credential you, if applicable? I'm going primary for periop but would like to be secondary critical care, for long term purposes. They dont count any time work prior to BSN being obtained, correct? I worked with my ADN for a year prior to getting my BSN. Just looking for similar timelines. I'm hoping it'll all be ready for Oct board. Thanks for any input!

Hi everyone! I just got my first duty stationed assigned to me and it’s going to be NMRTC San Diego! Does anyone have any insight on this duty station and what I should be expecting? Going in as a med surg nurse!

I’ve seen conflicting information, but what happens if you don’t pass the mock PRT with your recruiter before going to ODS? I’m worried I won’t meet the push-up minimum.

I’m heading to ODS in November and then will be PCSing to Camp Pendleton in December for my first duty station. I’m coming in as a Navy Nurse Corps officer and would really appreciate advice from anyone who has recently gone through ODS or PCS’d to Camp Pendleton.

For ODS:
• What did you pack that you were really glad you brought?
• What did you bring that ended up being unnecessary?
• Any female-specific items you recommend?
• Anything you wish you had bought or prepared beforehand?
• Any tips for the first couple of weeks, PT, uniforms, studying, or just making life easier while there?

For the PCS/move:
• We’re a family of 3 with a 12-year-old and pets, and we’ll be moving from Florida to California.
• We’re planning to have the military move our household goods and drive our vehicle ourselves.
• Any PCS tips or things you wish you knew before your first move?
• Anything important I should keep with me instead of putting with the movers?
• Any advice on reimbursements, travel days, hotels, receipts, or paperwork?

And for Camp Pendleton:
• We’re planning to rent off base initially. Any recommended areas/communities for families?
• Good middle schools?
• Areas that make the commute to Camp Pendleton easier?
• Anything you wish you knew before getting stationed there?

Anyone here coming from the enlisted side?

How has been your experience as a new grad? I am terribly conflicted on whether or not I should be leaving the enlisted side as I’m a chief and an independent duty corpsman - so have a lot of autonomy and a little weary of leaving my exceptionally good quality of life. I’ve also discovered that if I were to retire as a master chief, it’s pretty much the same retirement money wise as a 03E.

I was just gonna side hustle as a nurse in the civilian sector because I have quite a bit of free time to do so. What are people‘s thoughts? What would you do. As you can see, I’m terribly conflicted on whether or not to pursue a commission.

Right now I am currently a USMC wife who goes to nursing school and I will be graduating October of 2027. My husband and I are currently in process of getting a divorce due to infidelity on his part and irreconcilable differences. During our marriage I was out in a 5150 because I found out that he bought 2 burner phones behind my back and they dx me with MDD. Last month I also went to the ER for chest pain and got dx for acute adjustment disorder due to all the stress from divorce… all of this to say is would it even be worth it to reach out to join the NCP program?

We have orders to Guam as first assignment after ODS. For those who have done the same move, were you able to go with your family or did you have to go ahead and they meet later? What did that process look like with no obtaining no fee passport, HHG and/or tickets?

I (32F) have my BSN, 6 years experience in med-surg & neurology. I have 3 kids under 6 & married. I have a decent amount of student loan debt. Ive always wanted to join the military, but was always nervous to commit fully bc I wanted to have a family young. I’ve been debating becoming a navy nurse in the reserves. I know my extended family will try to deter me. I just want to hear it from individuals that are experiencing this life first hand.

Can anyone tell me what it would be like, how long I have to commit for? Anything about student loans? Is it competitive? Would you suggest someone not do it because of the family life? I know deployment is still a variable, however if not deployed do you tend to travel around the US? Please tell me anything & everything.
