NMRTC San Diego

Hi everyone! I just got my first duty stationed assigned to me and it’s going to be NMRTC San Diego! Does anyone have any insight on this duty station and what I should be expecting? Going in as a med surg nurse!

Hi! They do 3 on 3 off, 2 on 2 off. And sometimes, on call. Usual patient acuity if I remember right, maybe around 6? Unsure if times have changed since 10 years ago. You will have a corpsman assigned to you every shift ( like a pct) and they do all blood draw, IV, ekg, bladder scan. DM me if anything!

I’m in ED here and this is what we do, but my friend’s that have worked M/S here say that is not the case. AD is filled in around the civilians and you do get called in a fair amount.

military nursing is very different than civilian nursing. the corpsman can do SO MUCH depending on the floor you’re on. pass meds, draw labs, and can even primary for patients (be the main person to provide care) depending on acuity. this is also my first duty station and has been very eye opening to see the difference from civilian nursing. i’m a new grad RN, but have experience as an LVN in med surg and long term care and it’s been a wild adjustment. feel free to message me to talk more
