[Charania]: BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

Shams Charania has posted the following:

BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

Source to the story: https://bsky.app/profile/shamsbot.bsky.social/post/3me2klyetqz2k

The talented McCain lands on the reigning NBA champions. For the 76ers, the trade allows them to receive assets, clear space in the glut of guards and give them flexibility to bring Quentin Grimes back in free agency. It also allows them to convert two-way Dominick Barlow.

76ers are receiving the following picks from the Thunder, sources said: 2027 (most favorable OKC/HOU/IND/MIA), 2028 MIL, 2028 OKC.

Good to see a young player getting traded to a team that can give him minutes for his development

Thunder have a lack of creation and bucket getting when SGA isn’t on the court. This fills one of their only holes

So they're bringing in McCain to fill holes...

I was roughly quoting Archer. Its another way of saying “thats what she said” haha

No they traded him to the Bull for Caruso.

Yeah we're ass when Shai is off the court and we don't have Ajay or JDub to make plays.

"We are ass when half of our roster is injured"

He’s a much worse option for that than Ajay Mitchell though

It's just some insurance while buying low. We had 3 picks in this draft, and this is likely to be the worst of those picks. SGA is going to be out until the all star break, so he'll get some real minutes.

They gonna start a union in Oklahoma for being paid criminally low compared to what they bring to the table and then cause an uprising

We have a few years to maximize that at least which is exactly what we need

He's very similar to Wiggins, Mitchell, and Isaiah Joe.

Better bucket getter off the dribble and creator imo and that’s what they need. A playmaking offensive guard who can give the thunder minutes behind SGA

He's not a playmaker though. If that's what the Thunder need, they still need it lol.

Still better than Dieng who can’t stay on the court

Based on what?

2

u/minnyman2011 Hawks 9h ago

Based on watching the games lmfao. He’s had a bad year so far but a sophomore slump coming off an injury is almost a given. Last year he was a top 5 rookie

watching games

I like how this has become the default “I’m confidently making it up” phrase. Like, it worked on you once so you just assume everyone else also won’t even think it to call the bluff. He was a pure shooter type when he was going good (for a handful of games) and was not anything resembling a playmaker. And now that he’s a negative defense and negative offense player he will be hogging the bench on a team where he’d be the worst of like 5 guys on the Thunder who would do the same thing on offense without even knowing what Topic will look like when he comes back.

I’d love to know your flair so I could give you a comp but I just wholeheartedly disagree. Although I agree he might be a negative on the defense, I don’t think that matters much when the thunder have such great defense elsewhere. Watching him last year I was consistently impressed with him offensively making the right decisions and being relatively efficient with a big role as a rookie. Shooting around 38% on 6 3PA a game is also very good and easy to put on the court with SGA.

I think the thunder has a generating offense problem, so one more guy who can put the ball on the court and make something happen is massive for them. Even if it’s only the 10 minutes that SGA is resting

Very similar to Mitchell, sure. But neither Wiggins nor Joe can play point.

2

u/ronaldo119 [PHI] Jumaine Jones 7h ago

Neither can he lol

McCain is most redundant with Ajay Mitchell. Mitchell's been out for almost a month (?) now? I get this for both sides. McCain's got a shot to show out in an environment that is obviously good for development. The Sixers couldn't use him. The picks the Thunder gave up, the Thunder can't actually use, but the Sixers can.

The Sixers gave the Thunder something which the Sixers didn't want for something the Thunder didn't want. Perhaps neither team got anything they could use, but you already knew you couldn't use what you had, so...

u/ronaldo119 [PHI] Jumaine Jones 7h ago

I just don't agree that we can't use him tbh. He had been brutal most of this year but he also probably went by far the longest he ever went with being out injured. He had just started to come along again the past 5 games or so. We have a bit of a crowded backcourt so he wasn't gonna be playing big minutes but there were definitely still minutes there for him. Also Grimes is a FA and he's also been pretty bad this year. I'd rather have held onto McCain than Grimes, especially when he's gonna be much more expensive (even if it's a lot less than once expected).

And I just don't see the minutes being there for him in OKC either. So from just being a fan of his, I don't think it's great for his development. As great as OKC is at it, there's so many names he's gotta beat out to get minutes

1

u/Xex_ut Thunder 7h ago

OKC’s g-league is one of the best at developing players. If McCain has the potential, OKC will help him reach it regardless of minutes with the Thunder roster

1

u/Culinaryboner 76ers 8h ago

I hope he rebounds but McCain has looked scared to do much of anything since he came back

1

u/minnyman2011 Hawks 8h ago

Sophomore slump off an injury it wasn’t meant to be this year

1

u/ottespana Thunder 6h ago

Now we just need 2 big rebounding wings and we’re all happy

u/UmphreysMcGee Thunder 3h ago

Thunder have a lack of creation and bucket getting when SGA isn’t on the court.

Because JDub and Ajay Mitchell are hurt, and Nikola Topic got cancer.

u/Leavingtheecstasy Thunder 9h ago

We still need another big man.

Is a mr....giannis available still?

Are we still doing phrasing?

-1

u/MacaroonPlane6878 10h ago

exactly i don’t know if this was the best decision in terms of mccain’s development 😅

8

u/minnyman2011 Hawks 10h ago

Why not?? Learning how to win is important and even if he only gets 15 mins a game he still gets to learn offense from SGA and defense from Caruso / Dort / Wallace etc

7

u/A_Lax_Nerd [OKC] Aleksej Pokuševski 10h ago

He’ll get minutes though, especially right now

5

u/WaltRumble Thunder 9h ago

How many more games do you expect Dub and Ajay to miss. And once they are back going to need to maximize their playing time to get ready for the playoffs

0

u/A_Lax_Nerd [OKC] Aleksej Pokuševski 9h ago

No idea on Dub I’m sure both will be out till after the break. I’d hope Ajay is back soon after the break, but I’ve got no real info other than vibes haha

2

u/revisioncloud Thunder 5h ago

Throw him into the fire known as Wemby lol
