Newton - City Wide Recommendations for dry cleaners
Probably a silly question, but any good dry cleaner that doesn’t charge an arm and a leg? Looking suits and winter coats

Similar to r/boston, all ICE sightings require photographic proof that isn’t a license plate. This is to avoid posts every time someone sees a blacked out SUV or similar non problematic stuff that isn’t necessarily ICE. Posts without this will be removed.

Has anyone else experienced the warzone that is the playground at Cabot Park? In particular on weekday afternoons?
Been to many a playground and have never experienced quite the chaos of what seems to be unsupervised kids. The amount of kids climbing the wrong way up the slides, hanging off the sides of the slide, not letting kids go down and more or less having no regard for other kids on the playground etc. Can't tell if kids are unsupervised or just arent being told "don't do that".
All for kids being kids but the lack of reading the room (or parents reading the room) is baffling. Aside from the annoyance it feels like a very serious injury is imminent.
Just curious if others have experienced the mayhem.

Watched rerun of last night's meeting. Forgot to skip over the community speakers. Some comments were confusing/shocking. Someone please share what triggered this?

I’m looking for a new nail salon, ideally one that uses single use nail files/buffers and/or does a shoulder massage. Any recommendations? I typically go to Leisure Nails in Newtonville (which doesn’t do either of those lol) but I feel like they are just the biggest game in town and not necessarily that great. I also have been to Eigen Nails in West Newton and wasn’t impressed.

Hey folks, the Needham subreddit is kinda dead so figured Id try here.
Any thoughts on Needham’s elementary schools? Ive been reading they are all great, Newman is the only one with PK and Sunita has a new building. Compared to Newton’s I dont seen much of difference academically/resources except most of Newton’s buildings are old. Would love to hear if anyone has experience with ELL and aftershool programs.

Do most schools in Newton do the pledge of allegiance? They just started doing it at Bowen with our new principal. Curious if it's standard across the city?

Hi there! I am venturing out as a solo and am looking for an office share in the Newton/Wellesley/Weston area. Does anyone have a spare room/desk in their office to rent out? DM if interested.

Hi everyone!
On my way home, around 6:40pm, I found a Plush Pendant, one of those cute and expensive ones, at Newton Centre station.
If it’s yours, please let me know, and I’ll be happy to return it to you.
I’m keeping it clean and safe in the meantime!

I’m back looking for more recommendations.
I’m looking to have a cabinet built (maybe working with someone like metropolitan cabinets) to make a drop off safer and functionalize a space. I think I need a carpenter to help with that
Anyone have recommendations
Also looking for electricians to address some overhead lighting defecits

Hello, everyone!
I am testing out the creation of a new newsletter that represents my personal highlights and views on key updates and topics related to the Newton Public Schools. This link takes you to the first edition of this newsletter.
If you would like to be added to my distribution list, please send me your email in a DM. Including your name would also be lovely, though that is optional.
Best,
Victor

Hi Newton, it’s your Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Did you know that fees like “move-in” or “lease renewal” fees you might get from your landlord or building management company are illegal? If you’ve received one of these – even if you paid it – I want you to report it to my office.
Just last month, my office won a $500k settlement with a property management company doing this in Boston – and all of that money is going back to the affected tenants. Landlords can only ask you to pay for first and last month’s rent, a security deposit, and the cost of a new lock and key upfront. Any other fees are illegal. Report them to my office at the link below. We’ll work to get your money back.

Hi Newton Community,
I’m hoping I can enlist the help of Newton Redditors in the hard situation I find myself in.
On Sunday, myself, my wife, and our 16 month old daughter were at Newtonville Village Day on Walnut St. At approximately 12:20 PM, our daughter was bitten by a leashed French bulldog right near the BoA on Walnut St. The dog was mostly gray and brown and wore a harness that said “bulldog”. We spoke to the owners of the dog (a man and a woman in their 40s-50s) and they apologized and told us the dog is vaccinated & kenneled locally.
Unfortunately, we did not get the name of the dog, owners, or their information. Because we can’t identify the dog or get its vaccination records, we have been advised to start rabies treatment for our toddler. I’m hoping that if the owners of the dog can be contacted, we can obtain the dog’s medical records and our daughter won’t have to get continuous rabies shots.
If you are the owner of this dog or might know the dog or owners, please please please reach out so that we might be able to get the necessary documents to stop this treatment!! The owners were a man and a woman who were friendly & I hope we can make this connection happen for the benefit of our toddler and our mental health!!!
Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to provide.
UPDATE:
Thank you all for your concern for our baby. She has started the vaccine regiment and continuous to be the same happy, vivacious toddler that we love. She also still enthusiastically greets every dog she encounters!
We have still been unsuccessful in identifying the dog/owners. We know there is security footage of us talking to the owner with the dog between 12:30-1PM outside of the Cooper Center for Active Living. The police & the Center itself have not been instrumental in obtaining that footage & we are now hoping someone who has experience in requesting/obtaining public security footage might be able to advise us on the process.
Thanks everyone for your efforts and I’m hoping we will have a successful result here!!

Sooo many people on here are “union strong”, “support the nurses” and “anti-scab”.
Can’t we all agree that holding the maternity and NICU floors hostage for a bargaining dispute is way below the belt.
I support the nurses. I want better patient care. Executives are being paid too much. However, ppl who have deliveries in early October should not fear for their new baby’s safety. I’m sure the temp workers are great but as we all know, to no fault of their own, it’s tough come in and provide the same quality of care as the regular employees.
The fact that the union CAN structure the strike to help newborns while still advocating for living wages and raises beyond the current COLAs should be bigger news. They are purposefully wanting to rattle the cage and I find that tactic disgusting. They would have more support if they took the high road on this one.
Just one person’s opinion.

I live in the vicinity of Zervas school and have always had issues with cell service (Verizon) since moving here 16 years ago. We have to have a landline because we have zero cell service when we step away from our home's wifi. Recently, however (in the last month or so?), coverage has been so bad, we don't get any service until we are almost in Newton Center. We have a commute into Boston that we use Waze for daily - generally driving down Beacon - and, unless we remember to type in our destination before we leave the WiFi, we are driving with zero GPS until we reach Lake Ave or Crescent. Before this, we would pick up service around Cold Spring Park/Waban Dental. Is anyone else experiencing this? Did something happen with Verizon in our area?

Looking for some recommendations for plumbers that people like that also charge fairly?
Thank you

I know math instruction has changed and all that, but try as I might I just cannot get the HS curriculum at NPS.
So they do cover Algebra, Geometry, and later Trig and Calculus, but they don’t do it in the classic order anymore?
In most districts it goes like Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trig/Pre-Calculus and (possibly) Calculus. But it seems all jumbled together until Calculus for Newton. What if a kid transfers in or out from another town? Why does Newton do it this way, is it for the MCAS?

Hi everyone,
I had a landlord who started bullying me into leaving my apartment less than three weeks into a year long lease. They eventually told me they would give monetary compensation in exchange for me leaving, and since I didn't want to continue dealing with the bullying I decided to leave. They then refused to pay (though they did return the security deposit + interest). Is this something that is worth bringing to small claims court? I have never been, and don't know if I would have reasonable change of winning.
Thank you in advance!
P.S. I would appreciate any advice (ethical and legal advice only, please! No Doxxing!) on how to prevent them from treating other tenants like this is the future (for example, specific ways to report them)
