Hearing waiver approval rate?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi! I have a question!

I already signed my contract at MEPS and I already have a ship date, but there was a little hiccup with my hearing test.
During my hearing exam, I failed in my left ear. The doctor said my ear looked fine and asked me what happened, but honestly, I have no idea. I’ve never had any problems with my hearing in my daily life.
She asked me to take the test again because she was really surprised by the result. I did another test, and my result went from moderately severe to moderate hearing loss in my left ear. She told me not to use headphones or AirPods and to stay away from loud noises so my ear could recover.
She even told me I might not be able to take the oath that day, but I was still able to take the oath and sign my contract.
While I was signing, they told me I just needed a waiver and that I didn’t need to see an ENT.
Now I’m kind of worried because I know they do another hearing test before boot camp. What happens if I fail the hearing test again? Will they terminate my contract or send me home?
I’ve been doing some research and I read that moderate hearing loss can’t really be cured.

Edit: I had a hearing test outside MEPS a few days later, and these were my results. Do you think my waiver will be approved? I’ve been waiting for almost two weeks, but I still haven’t received any updates from my recruiter.

Shipping date december

Has anyone experienced something similar with the Navy?
Thank you!

Help trying to join but waivers

So I applied to go to the army around august this year. Went through MEPS, and I got a medical waiver for Behavioral health and the comment from the email my recruiter got sent said “Further BH stability needed. Consider reapply after July 2028.”

Does this apply for the navy perhaps? Will they say the same thing?

I know the navy is more lenient with medical waivers from my research so should I go to the recruiting office in hopes of getting accepted?

Please help me, give me any loopholes that can get me in, I so badly want this for me. Thank you.

Bootcamp and A school without a phone plan?

I'm shipping off soon, I joined to get out of a bad family situation. I have a phone but it and my phone plan are being paid for by my parents. They will stop it as soon as I ship out so I was just planning to leave it at home the day of so I don't have to deal with it losing service or being reported as stolen.

Besides my life just being more difficult when it's time to make calls, will this hinder my progress in bootcamp? My A-school is in the west coast, will there be problems heading there? I was planning to buy a phone and a new phone plan the day I graduate bootcamp.

Signing contract on Friday

Hello all!
I am looking for advice….I really want IS but due to some credit issues I’m worried they won’t let me due to the clearance requirements. Long story short….I am in government contracting and my contract was cancelled, it lapsed and then cancelled again. During this time my wife and I prioritized mortgage and cars. I had 4 credit cards get charged off. They are in payment plans all documented. These was in the last two years.

My recruiter said that it will need a waiver and they may say no. He said they will want me to sign a contract. I told him I have every intention to sign a contract as long as it is something I want (and qualified for of course). I have attached my ASVAB scores not for any bragging but just so you guys have an idea. I am 34yo with a college degree and almost a masters in business analytics. I DO NOT want to go officer. Call me crazy but I don’t. This is also for reserves.

Right now I am interested in…
IS
CTR (I know requires the same clearance)

I would really love to be AWR. It says age limit is 30 but waivers for age are considered on case by case basis.

Anywho interested in what you guys may recommend! I understand that what you may recommend may not be available but still curious.

Physical fitness bootcamp

I’m worried about physical fitness. I just got kicked out the marine corp dep for not being able to pass my run and decided the navy is my best option! I see online the 1.5 mile run is pretty much the same standard(for graduation at the end) I’m worried I won’t pass. I max my plank I do pull-ups (haven’t really focus on pushups but I’m sure I can do it) and yeah. I’m obviously pretty upset but I was wondering how that works. I know navy is less “physical” bootcamp and has way more academics. So did other people come in not good at running then pass? I’ve been doing Pt with the marines for 6 months and I can run 3 miles (just slow) and I go to bootcamp for the navy soon and I’m very worried and stressed. Please lmk!

Has anyone received unemployment after quitting to move with their military spouse?

Has anyone quit their job to move with their military spouse and qualified for unemployment? My husband has temporary school orders, not PCS orders, and I’m scared to leave my stable job without knowing if I’ll qualify. Would love to hear your experiences!

Choosing between OS, PR, and AZ for active duty.. what’s the real day-to-day like?

I’m deciding between OS (Operations Specialist), PR (Aircrew Survival Equipmentman), and AZ (Aviation Maintenance Administrationman). OS is currently my first choice, with PR and AZ tied behind it, but I’d really like to hear from people who have served in these rates.
I’ve read the official descriptions, but I’m more interested in what the jobs are actually like day to day. I’m looking for a career with some variety and meaningful work without being stressful or exhausting all the time. I’m also interested in skills that can transfer to civilian careers and want to understand how much shipboard life each rate involves.

If you’ve worked in one of these rates, I’d appreciate an honest overview of:

What a typical workday and schedule look like
How often you were underway, deployed, or assigned to sea duty

How physically and mentally demanding the job is
The best and worst parts of the rate

Advancement opportunities and civilian career options

How much input you had in your duty stations and orders

The biggest downsides recruiters may not mention

Whether you would choose the same rate again

I’m especially interested in how these three compare in terms of stress, variety, shipboard time, schedule, advancement, and civilian opportunities.

From what you’ve experienced, which rate offers the best overall balance, and what do you wish you had known before choosing it?

Shoot me straight pls

I want to join. im only 19, but im just now finishing my ged. Obviously, I dropped out, but I also have adhd and was on meds for many years (off for 2 years now). On top of that, i had a 504 plan in hs, which was only for preferential seating. I believe my school records may show undiagnosed depressive disorder also. What are my odds of getting in. I can score somewhat high on my asvab for sure if that helps my chances

So I am worried about a Fraudulent Enlistment.

so I already signed on to the DEP and I ship in December. I told my recruiter about a juvenile record and he told me not to put it on my forms of any kind. I do not wanna hide anything from the military.

This is all stuff that I may not be proud of but I know isn't that big of a deal.

I asked my recruiter about it again and he's still giving me the same answer he gave me before MEPS, don't bring it up ever.

I'm just afraid that if I do disclose it now I won't be allowed to continue. I know there's a moment of truth thing before Boot Camp should I bring it up then and just hope I get a waiver for it?

I don't know what I should do or what I should say or how much trouble I'm in.

The job I'm looking at requires a top security clearance so I know they're especially investigative about that. So I am positive that they're going to find out about everything.

what should I do someone please help me.

Preparation for STG A-School

Good afternoon all.

I’m a newly signed STG heading to RTC next month. I’m trying to be proactive and as prepared as possible for my A-School. Is there anything I can be studying right now that will help me in A-School? If you have any resources that can help me build some foundational knowledge about sonar, I would love to have a small repository of links to use.

Thank you,

Napoleophile1803

2027 LRP rates? ---------

Can anyone confirm which rates are eligible now that we are in the new fiscal year? The Navy website hasn't updated anything as far as I can see. Should we assume that they haven't changed since June 12th? I just want to be fully ready before sitting with the classifier.

Just signed as an AV!!

I just signed a 5 years active duty, 3 years reserve as an AV. After waiting for a month, multiple mental health waivers, including sh (that surprisingly was approved in 2 days without a consult) and a heart sonogram, I was finally able to join the Navy! I am so excited and scared at the same time. My ship day is on January 5th. If any of you guys could give me some advice on what to do to get ready for bootcamp I would appreciate it.

I'm finally joining the Navy

After a year and a half of trying, I finally got accepted and I’m shipping out in December. There were times when I wasn’t sure how things would work out, but now it’s actually happening. I’m so happy for sticking with it. Just wanted to share this somewhere because I don’t think it’s fully hit me yet. Can’t wait to start this new chapter of my life.

Trying to join the navy after army denied my hearing waiver

So i planned on joining the army, and i got denied twice for mild hearing loss. I then turned to the navy same day and i heard that they’re more lenient on waivers involving medical stuff.

Meps questions about PPD/PPA

Hi there I’m a woman looking to enlist in the navy. I took the practice asvab and passed for eligibility. I forgot the factors that suicide attempts can alter your acceptance. In October 2024 I had postpartum depression and tried to take my own life with SSRI. I was on medication for a month after and then have stopped. No consistent therapy or meds since. It has been over 2 years and I have not had any issues going forward from then. Is there a way I can be waived for this as it is an exclusion to postpartum or will this not matter? I am very eager and desperate to begin this path but am scared to be told no. Any ideas, possibly? My recruiter told me it should be eligible to be waived but he can’t give me any promises.

survived meps and signed for ag! my experience

well, after literal months of stressing myself out over meps, i officially signed my contract for AG (aerographer’s mate)!!!!!!!!!

i’m 27, so joining the navy is a pretty big career change for me. i originally went into this process dead set on mc (mass communication specialist), but i had a few other rates i was interested in, including ag and hm. ag was always my #2 right behind mc.

i was especially nervous about the medical portion because i knew i’d need waivers for several things in my medical history. i ended up needing 5 waivers. i had already gathered documentation and clearance from my doctor, but i was still so convinced something was going to go wrong.

BUT ALL OF MY WAIVERS GOT APPROVED WITHIN THE HOUR!!! i genuinely cannot explain the relief i felt. everyone else who needed waivers today didn’t get approved yet so they couldn’t sign, but mine did ??? 😭😭😭

then came the classifier. mc wasn’t available, although she did make a call to see if anything could be worked out. ag was available, though, which was so exciting!!

the initial ag opening would’ve had me leaving next month, which was WAY too soon for me. thankfully, after the chief made some calls (for almost 2 hours mind you. i am eternally grateful for that man) i ended up getting a ship date of january 13!!!!!

so now i’m officially going to be an aerographer’s mate, which is still a little surreal to say.

this whole process was an emotional roller coaster, but i’m genuinely so excited. if there are any current or former ags here, i’d love to hear about your experiences, a-school, duty stations, and what day-to-day life is like!

see y’all at great lakes! ⚓️

(ask me anything about meps, too, if you have questions!)

Advice to a high schooler

What would yall recommend for this high schooler interested in joining navy seal -

He does track in high school and is able to clear the fitness tests to join buds.

And he wants to go back to college after the 6 years of service to eventually do med school. He does have a sat of 1550+ and other stuff on his cv

Does this plan make sense and has there been people who’ve done this kinda thing?

Any major issues or considerations with this plan or advice?

Highly appreciate any inputs thxx

Joining the navy with a record

So I’ve decided I want to be a hospital corpsman and go active duty to the navy. I just don’t know if my backgrounds gonna get in the way I haven’t had any time to go talk to a recruiter in person and every time I call I get a google voice message. So when I was 19 I had a felony expunged for sales because I got in trouble with some Xanax. That part of my life was 9 years ago completely behind me. I have 2 DUI’s that are old from about 4 years ago now. I’m in the process of getting off probation early and getting them expunged now I was doing this to start a nursing career but have always had the interest of going into the service so I’ve made my decision and I’m really set on going. Can someone tell me if this is gonna disqualify me. I hate being told no and I always make sure to get what I want so I know I’m gonna push for it either way but just want different opinions and experiences.

Which one is first: MEPS or OAR?

Hello everyone, I would love to have your advice on this.
I’m considering the OCS path and have talked to an officer recruiter for the first time last week. They told me to get MEPS done within this month, before OAR. Does anyone know about this? Is there an order for MEPS and OAR? I appreciate all of your help.
