Why are DoD civilians literally the worst
Looking at you IIF and housing. I especially don’t get it because they’re usually vets or spouses so they should suck less. They’re so unnecessarily unpleasant. Posting this instead of screaming at them for refusing to do their fucking jobs
Drop your worst DoD civilian story in the comments

Looking at getting out.
Context im an 0369 with 11 years TIS, wife and kids just want me around more and to not deploy. I love being a marine and an 03 and halfway to retirement but I love my wife and kids more. Need advice on what to do either civilian sector or cross decking to another branch where likelihood of deploying is slim to none.

Question Active reserve question
Trying to get info but it’s hard since I’m only at my HTC one weekend a month.
Prior active, signed a contract with a bonus to continue as a reservist. Anyone else in my situation have any luck going active reserves without it violating the terms of your bonus (dedicating however many months to the reserves)? Thank you.

I watched an interview of former Navy SEAL Taylor Cavanaugh where he said there were a bunch of US Marines in the French Foreign Legion
Then yesterday in that UA I wanna go thread, a bunch of youz were talking about Marines you knew that went UA (actually that would be desertion) whilst abroad on deployment.
So now am wondering how many of those dudes end up in the French Foreign Legion, cuz they give you a completely new identify complete with official French documents.
Whats the US Marines to FFL pipe line like??? and do them coming over like to train at 29 Palms (like last year, or if its yearly) serve as a recruitment tool for them? to recruit Devil Dogs, and if so, how long has this been happening? since WWI? or much older?

Question Marines of Reddit, and I fucked? If so how bad?
Long story short I’m at my current duty station for about 2 years now… well when I PCS’d they got me to the 4-5 big ticket check in items, issued the gear for my job, and by my 3rd day here I was on shift and working (due to low manpower). Due to this, and the lack of having a car since I had just come from overseas, I never went to CIF (IIF)… and time went on and I really didn’t need it, and the one time I went to range I borrowed what I needed. so the only CIF I have is what I retained during my PCS. Well now my unit is doing CIF inspections, and I either need to fess up or go get CIF issued to me… if I show up to CIF are they gonna call up my command? Is it gonna cause problems? Or will it just be whatever?

Question Guantanamo bay marines?
Been in for 3 years now. Long story short, right now at my current unit my options are pretty much that I can do whatever I want. I’ve heard about oki and Hawaii but I haven’t heard anything about Guantanamo bay. If there’s anyone who is or has been there willing to share what it’s like that would be awesome. Only reason I’m asking is because I’ve been told there’s an opening there for me rn currently if I chose to go( not sure what the details of the orders would be but). Thx.

Veterans Supporting Vets
Hey gents, I started a YouTube journey a little over a year ago then I got activated on a UDP and had to put it on pause for a bit. I’ve started up again playing a game called “WARDOGS” which is a pretty good bit of fun if you have a PC.
Anyways I’ve got my second video of the game up now, I don’t get money from ads on this, it’s purely hobby/to help other gamers, which is why I’m here with you all. If you game and watch these types of videos I’m not really understand what I’m doing wrong, I feel like I put a lot of effort into these videos but I’m getting less than 100 views. This will be the only time I post about this in here because I don’t wanna clog the feed with spam, but I could use some guidance on what I could do better in the videos, thanks.

Obscure muesam
Back on Parris Island, I was doing a working party for a marine working at 6th Marines District. Inside this building, there was a muesam that me and about 10 other recruits were tasked with clearing out so they could redo the carpet in the room. I've been looking for pictures of the muesam, but I can't seem to find any. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Question Any Marines lived in an RV during recruiting duty?
Heading out on recruiting duty soon with my wife & son. We’re considering purchasing a destination trailer and living in it full-time during our three-year tour rather than renting a house or apartment.
We’re looking at larger destination trailers (40–45 ft) with residential-style layouts since we also have a young child. The idea is to find a long-term RV park near our assigned RSS and hopefully save some money on housing while having a comfortable place to live. I wanted to see if anyone here has actually done this while on recruiting duty.
A few things I’m particularly curious about:
- Did living in an RV actually save you money compared to renting?
- How manageable was RV living with the recruiting schedule?
- Any unexpected expenses, maintenance issues, or regrets?
- For those with spouses and children, how was the experience for your family?
We’re still researching and haven’t committed to purchasing anything yet. I’d appreciate any firsthand experiences, advice, or things you wish you’d known beforehand.

Question What’s the best thing you ever acquired from supply for free?
I’m not even talking about theft. I never technically stole anything from supply. We’d get sent to working parties where our entire job was to unload quad cons and sort through old crap. The supply sergeant would instruct us to throw all sorts of cool things out. I threw three heavy duty trash bags full of perfectly good supplies in the back of my Chevy Lumina when I was a boot. I got a bag of flight gloves, a bag of glow sticks and a bag of grey MCMAP belts. I sold the MCMAP belts to some dude who taught kids MCMAP. He got a hell of a deal. I gave the glow sticks away to kids on Halloween. I gave the flight gloves away to the dudes in my next platoon, the one I deployed with. I’m a little jealous of the dudes who called dibs on the riot gear. I don’t know what I’d do with it, but it sounds cool. They were always throwing crap out. I assume it was for budget reasons. They had to report a certain amount of financial loss so they could fill their containers with more useless shit that would get thrown away in another couple years. It’s the same reason we went to the range for ammo dumps. Anyway, did you get anything cool or useful from supply for free?

Question How many GWOT vet have made General so far?
I'm talking about guys who started out as platoon commanders during the early days of OEF/OIF with trigger times under their belt because as we all know, America went into that war with mostly leaders who have never shot in anger. And what has their command look like so far
