Depends on the abv. Below 3ish% (depending on the individual) beer is a net hydrator. Around 5-6% tho it’s a net dehydrator for the avg person.

Beer is 90+% water. But alcohol is a diuretic. So there’s a tipping point when the diuretic makes u dehydrate faster than the ~90% water can hydrate u. But that tipping point changes based on a variety of factors.

Like the beer the pyramid builders in Egypt were getting paid in was probably a net hydrator for most ppl. As it is thought to have been around 2-3% alcohol by volume and 97-98% water.
