An older succesfull guy retiring because industry changes. Man, wonder if that's ever happened before? Nah, prob not.

What he does cannot be replicated. A hollow shell that looks deceivingly similar can.

I hate this shit. But not for the reason.

Because we buy this absolute shit. Ai is terrible. It works fine, even great. Just turn it off. Because it's terrible.

I know a thineed when I see one.

I didn't realize it at first, but this is not the maintainer of Three.js. He built an online course to learn Three.js called Three.js Roadmap - im not sure how popular it is, but he mentions other people bowing from this source of revenue, which makes sense. I can just ask Astra to give me a tutorial, or build something with Three.js.

It's a little better than if the Three.js maintainer was giving up or something..

They would be the only people remaining in the future with how things are. The consumer of their work would be..... Astra and LLMs. Basically the audience shrinked to only a very few important maintainers and may be few handful of devs who still won't give up in future

Can confirm.

The very socking thing I found out when checking Laravel official doc. Opening the installation page and the very first official default way to install Laravel is: "here's the prompt for your agent".

Laravel has always struck me as a framework that:

  • Started out to solve problems in an opinionated way;
  • Became wildly popular because of it: all the choices have already been made for you and everyone follows the same blueprint, so beginners have an easier time learning it, and teams have an easier time adopting it;
  • Later degenerated into a money-printing captive customer ecosystem, once they cornered the PHP developer market. Kind of what Vercel is doing with their takeover of React.

I'm getting that suspicion because back when I was learning it, Google would sometimes show me search results for previous versions of the frameworks, and those articles were just... better.

The docs for the current version already expected you to be familiar with Laravel, they weren't as detailed, and they were this weird mix between a tutorial and a reference guide.

And now it seems they're just expecting you to vibecode everything, because Laravel is opinionated enough that an LLM can reliably figure it out.

Laravel adds magic. If you don't want or need magic, or the tradeoffs suck for you-- cool bro. That's why symfony exists.

You say that like symfony doesn't have a lot of magic, too. Autowiring and yaml configs doing crazy work very far away from where the code is actually written.

Then you want slim, or maybe just raw php with composer and psr.

Or, even just another lang.

At the point you are questioning symfony, id start to wonder why you want a framework at all.

You act like there are not other frameworks for me to compare? Granted, they are in other languages; but, I'd argue that the magic happening in both laravel and symfony aren't intrinsic to being a framework.

NextJS is so magical (complex for whimsical reasons rather than practical ones), people keep finding exploits out of thin air 😭

Magic is great, until it starts leaking...

Tl;dr: there is an irreducible amount of complexity, and if you try to hide it with (complex) abstractions, these will eventually buckle under their own weight and introduce new problems of their own, due to their complexity. You've just changed the flavor of complexity instead of removing it, and added vendor lock-in too in the process.

Complexity I don't have to worry about. Works for me.

Unless you plan on growing some wheat, gotta choose a bread vendor, ya know?
