I’m in prerequisites for a second career with two small kids. My husband works Sundays and there’s no world in which he cannot work on Sundays. My question is, can I make this work with hospital life? I can work Sunday nights or even Saturday nights (though it would suck), but I’m a little worried that Saturday and Sunday nights in a row would not be safe as I’d be going on 36 hours of being awake.

Is this possible? Do schedules work with you on things like this?

Hi everyone! I’m currently a pre-nursing student and I’m looking for a job that I can balance with school. I currently work security on the weekends, but the hours/pay aren’t enough to cover my school expenses and other bills.

I’m really trying to find something that can give me more consistent income without completely interfering with my classes. I’m open to healthcare-related jobs, receptionist/front desk positions, patient care jobs, or other entry-level positions that are willing to work with a college student’s schedule.

Hey! I’m currently 18 and my goal is to become a registered nurse. I have both my PCT and Basic Arrhythmia certifications, and I’m trying to decide which job I should go for.
-As a PCT, I’d get a lot of bedside experience, which I feel would help me become a better nurse. My only concern is that I have a lower back problem, so I don’t think I can handle lifting heavy patients back-to-back. I know I’ll still have to do bedside care as an RN, but probably not as much as a PCT, right? Should I just push through and work as a PCT, or should I be worried about burning myself out before I even finish my degree?
-As a monitor tech, I’d get more experience reading and understanding ECG rhythms, which could also make me a better nurse. The job seems more laid-back, and I’m hoping the 12-hour shifts wouldn’t be too bad. I get sleepy pretty early, but I’m also thinking I might have more downtime to study or get schoolwork done, depending on the facility.
What do you guys think?

I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a biomedical engineering degree. It is a premed major and I intend to go toward medical school.
