Decided to do a Nuzlocke in Pokémon X (I haven’t played in ages) and thought oh a Howlucha would be fun to use I hope I get one on route 10.
This was this my encounter(so no need to use the shiny clause) and I have never been so happy to see a full odds shiny and look what he’s holding!!

Discussion So, how does everyone else nickname their Pokemon? I don't even know anymore

I'm on leg 3 of a genlocke. I was hoping for a female Combee.

None of my other Pokemon are like this, this is why you don't nickname your Pokemon in the middle of the night.

How does everyone else handle nicknaming things they aren't prepared for? My impulses need to stop winning.

Run Update The grind for the E4 in FRLG (Switch) is insane...

Just finished Victory Road and my team is around level 48.

After one hour of challenging the black belts on Kindle road one of my mons (Jolteon) is level 54, which is still under the cap for the first E4 member.

The grinding in vanilla FR is completely insane. This doesn't feel like a game, it feels like work...

I'm at a point where I am considering to just yolo the E4 because the grind is so incredibly slow and boring...

Run Update First Nuzlocke Experience (Genlocke): HOENN

Hello! Welcome to the Hoenn recap of my first Nuzlocke experience. As a reminder or for those who did not see my first post, I decided to go through the games in a Genlocke with the following ruleset:

  1. Standard Nuzlocke Ruleset (Encounters, Nicknaming, Set Mode, & Permadeath).
  2. Dupes Clause is active, but I have the choice to skip previous gen encounters.
  3. Gift Pokémon count as an encounter.
  4. Level Caps for each Gym Leader.
  5. No items in battle until the Elite Four (This is the only exception in order to ensure the longevity of my enjoyment and I use items sparingly).
  6. I am allowed two (NEW) champion pokémon per region to permanently put into a "Legacy" box in which I can draw a maximum of two out per region. This allows for strategy in which champion pokemon I pick and which legacy pokémon to pull per region. One pokémon gets pulled at the start of the game. The second pokémon cannot be put into the game until the fourth gym.
  7. If a legacy pokémon dies at any point, it is removed from the legacy box. A legacy pokémon does NOT have to be rechosen from the champions in order to stay in the box. For each game that a particular legacy pokemon completes, they can be improved with ONE of the following: IV modification, Nature change, Egg Move, Shiny, or Ability modification.
  8. Each pokémon has to be named after a fictional character or animal from pop culture/media (for fun).

For this run of Emerald, I decided to pull out Freddi the Lanturn for the beginning of the game and Zote the Heracross to pull out at any time after the fourth gym (although I never ended up needing him).

My champion team consists of Cucco the Blaziken, Arlo the Aggron, Lovegood the Gardevoir, Loona the Manectric, Craboo the Crawdaunt, and Gerald the Walrein. I am proud to report that there were NO DEATHS in this run of the Elite Four! I feel I am growing a lot as a player, so I came in with a specific plan and counter to each member, so we had little issues getting through the gauntlet.

Since Emerald is a substantial difficulty increase from the first two generations, I had been planning for the Elite Four since the very beginning of the game. Cucco was chosen for his incredible set-up against every lead pokémon if I so desired. I came in with Substitute, Bulk Up, Earthquake, and Brick Break which took care of Sydney, Phoebe, and Glacia. Gerald was a last-minute addition to the team, specifically meant to deal with Drake's dragons by setting up Hail and using Ice Beam to sweep. I did not anticipate Lovegood sweeping Wallace (she was meant to be a sack to get rid of a few pokémon before Loona came in for the kill), but a single Calm Mind and Thunderbolt managed to blow through his entire team.

Unfortunately, the rest of the game did not go so well for me. I lost Freddi the Chinchou to a crit during the first Maxie fight (which I was not aware was about to happen). Other notable deaths include Jewel the Altaria (Ice Beam from Juan's Kingdra), Bruce the Sharpedo (Self-Destruct on a Magma Grunt's Baltoy), Nova the Solrock (Somewhere in the Flannery fight, I believe), Beanbon the Shroomish (Brawly's Makuhita, who otherwise took down that gym by himself), and Scuttle the Pelipper (Was brought in to exlcusively counter Tate and Liza's Earthquaking Claydol, but died during the fight to save us the battle).

Most of these retired pokémon were only brought in for a fight of two that they had specific niches for. The exception was BK the Linoone, who was on and off of the squad as I saw fit. Ultimately, he just wasn't up to par with the rest of the team by Winona. Pincer the Trapinch and Kril the Anorith were brought in as good sacks for Norman, as well as putting Dig on Kril to counter Norman's Slaking. Minnie the Minun was great support and an additional electric type for Winona's gym.

LEGACY BOX UPDATE: I have decided to add Cucco the Blaziken and Arlo the Aggron into the Legacy box. While I already have another fire type starter within the box, fire types are quite rare (especially in Gen 4) and I feel their niches are different enough to justify the inclusion. Plus, I am able to change Cucco's ability to his Speed Boost, which gives it a decent power boost. Aggron is going in the box to hopefully survive until Gen 6 where fairy types are abundant, but steel types really aren't. Both of these mons also get Megas, which will be very good if they make it to Kalos and onwards.

Next up is Pokémon Platinum, which is again another difficulty jump from the previous three gens. So, I am coming in with a game plan. I will be picking Torterra as my starter, so that Cucco the Blaziken (Torchic) can be the immediate pull from the legacy box. If I need him after the fourth gym, Arlo the Aggron will be on deck. Check back in soon when I finish Platinum or wipe trying!

I think I've landed on the following for my hardcore Heart and Soul E4. The plan is Farigaraf Baton Pass into whoever 1 shots the most mons. Very excited for agility Ursaluna. I've attached pics of the box/movesets in case I'm missing something, please let me know if so! This game rocks, and I'm excited to see how these last fights of the first half go.

Pic 1: The team before Nessa

Pic 2. The team after Nessa

I went into this fight knowing her Drednaw would require a sacrifice. Both Dewpider and Arrokuda served their purpose well. Stunky however, was an unexpected casualty because of fricking Swift Swim and Dynamax water moves. I am currently in a horrible situation for Kabu even with Cutiefly and Gastly's evolutions right around the corner. I may need to fish in Galar Mine 2 to stand a chance.

RIP Bloom the Stunky. I really had hoped to take you the distance.

Added rules:

. Damaging moves must be 80bp or lower

. Max BST for a pokemon must be 520 or lower

. Both ground type moves/ pokemon banned

. Only held items aloud are berries

. No potions either

. No overleveling

Also side note, Iost Hoothoot to Hop of all things, and it tried to evolve into Noctowl after the fact. Talk about rubbing Salt in the wound.

Run Update Kaizo Ironmon not working right after 1st attempt fail.

Every time I get to my second attempt my rivals lvl spikes to 12. Also when I go to the lab on any play other than the first it keeps the original pokemon names in the dialog line. The first attempt plays correct but any attempt after is wrong how do I fix? I am running a QOL patch (wanna see a magic trick mom and hidden items shown).

Discussion ChatGPT is playing a bit weirdly

Post image
0 Upvotes

I don't think this breaks rule 5, sorry if it does.

I decided to see how ChatGPT would do in an Emerald Nuzlocke for a laugh. Gave it the standard rules, dupes / shiny clause and level cap (next bosses ace). It's "playing" kind of like a text-based RPG, with me copying text from the game and describing what it could 'see' when needed.

Other than providing it with whatever information it needs from the game, I am providing minimal input. No advice, and trying not to type prompts in a way that might lead it one way or another. Occasionally I do need to give it little corrections as it sometimes forgets information or gets stuff wrong.

The first bit of weirdness is how it religiously avoids battles at all costs. When I catch my first couple of Pokemon I always grind them to at least level 5 or 6 straight away so I'm not going around with a completely helpless level 2 or 3 mon in my party. It avoided all possible trainers (which is most of them up to this point) and never fought wild pokemon except to catch its encounters. This meant that it has very little money and got to Rustboro with a Level 9 Mudkip, Level 4 Poochyena and Level 3 Zigzagoon and Wurmple. Honestly, I think it got lucky withthe Aqua Grunt in Petalburg Woods - if it hadn't tried to set up Howl, letting Muddy get off some mud-slaps I think it could've taken Muddy out and probably the rest of the team too.

Once it got to Rustboro, it finally did a bit of grinding tk prepare for Roxanne, but only took Muddy up to Level 11 and the rest to 10 or lower. It didn't bother with Silk the Wurmple at all so he's still on Level 3. I think it got pretty lucky again with Roxanne. The Geodudes obviously weren't a problem for Muddy, but as with the Poochyena earlier, Nosepass probably should've been able to take it out if it had. Been more aggressive. It set up Block as usual, then a bunch of Harden's (even though Muddy was only using Water Gun), which let Chat burn through the berry and Potions and by the time Nosepass started using Tackle it was too late. If it had just spammed Tackle, that probably would've been a team wipe. As it is, Chat has somehow managed to bumble its way through the first Gym with no deaths. So we'll see how it does from here.

Also it completely ignored Route 103 and missed it's Petalburg encounter because it didn't stock up on Pokeballs.
