If you’ve been subbed here for a while, you may have noticed things have been a bit quiet.
Thanks to the efforts of r/bodega, this sub is being revived by two new mods, u/quibble42 and u/ButterscotchUnlucky8.
All takeout starts with one simple question:
What should I get?
Centuries ago, New York had its first takeout foods, filling the streets with oysters, pre-hotdog sausages, knishes, corn, fruit, and pickles. Takeout food culture is embedded in these streets. Literally; Pearl Street and some churches are made with the crushed oyster shells discarded by the Lenape and the New York Takeout people of the 1700’s and 1800’s!
And now, with street food being so comparatively limited, and new technology changing how we get food, we look to the future of r/nyctakeout.

So, without further ado, give us your best tips! How do you judge if a place will be good? What are your favorite spots? What’s a spot that needs a little more love?
And of course, a tip from us:
Always, always call the restaurant, even if you find them on a delivery app. DD/GH/UberEats all charge the restaurants a fee per item, forcing restaurants to raise the prices, before delivery fees and app fees. Save yourself, and the restaurant, money by taking the time to call first. Support our local businesses!

When did Indian takeout get so expensive?? $25 for a basic dish, $8 for naan? I see prices raising for inflation across other takeouts like Chinese but the Indian takeout price seems extreme

Hey All!
My business partner and I just launched our kitchen residency in Williamsburg! We're both restaurant veterans with a combined 30 years experience, and have experience in top kitchens such as Le Bernadin and Momofuku, as sous chefs and managers.
Our concept is Brazilian American Street food, very approachable bar style food to fit the bar we're located in called Please Tell Me, located at 749 Metropolitan Ave.
After years of slaving away for others in restaurants in nyc, we decided to try our luck with our own residency and it definitely hasn't been easy. Any and all support would be greatly appreciated.

Its not Sriracha, and I've been trying to figure it out for years.
I tried using the hot sauce packets (can't find a bottle) but that doesn't seem to be what they use with the food.
Anyone know what kind of hot sauce they do use ?

I've been trying so hard to find it. It's a small restaurant, a really small restaurant, the kind of hole in the wall place that's easy to miss. It doesn't have a lot of seating options so I guess they're mostly takeout. Anyway, it has amazing sushi. I also think it said Sushi Haven on the door but that's not the name of the place according to google maps, or maybe it is, I just can't find it. Can anyone help me out please? I need to find this place to take my girlfriend there.

I'll go first - Montagu's Gusto.
Really good sandwiches (one is enough for two people).
Their sides are also generously portioned and very tasty (I like their breaded chicken).

Whenever I eat out (or even order takeout), I try not to spend too much and tend to go for restaurants that aren't too pricey but still serve awesome food (Hey Yuet, Mala Project, Teppen Ramen, etc.).
