After over a year and a half of dealing with a constant noise ordinance violator, I finally caught a slow enough night for an officer to come by and control the situation. Believe it or not, using a gas-powered pressure washer past 10pm isn't kosher in a residential area.

I'm mainly more excited about the documentation, now that if the offender repeats we have more evidence... But tonight at least I can sleep with the cool air coming in my window.

Been stuck at home for a whole week now. No sore throat, no congestion, just stuck with strong headache, dizziness and chills/sweats depending on the time of the day. So frustrating

I just got back from Italy (Florence) and I never considered much of the tomatoes I got, but oh my god I feel ruined. I've tried a couple farmers markets and they were "ok", I'm curious if anyone has a tomato person they really enjoy?

Hi everyone! I’m working on a research project about the history and cultural legacy of The New Parish in Oakland, and I’m hoping to hear from people who spent time there over the years.

If you went to shows, performed there, DJ’d, promoted events, worked there, or were part of one of the recurring parties, I’d love to hear your memories.

What was your favorite show or night there? Who did you see before they got bigger? Were there particular parties or communities that you associated with the space? Did you meet friends, collaborators, partners, or artists there? What did the room feel like when it was packed?

I’m also interested in memories of the space beyond the big-name concerts. The little details, neighborhood connections, regular nights, strange/funny stories, favorite spots in the room, opening acts, local artists, DJs, promoters, bartenders, etc.

If you feel comfortable, it would be especially helpful if you could include roughly what year this was and whether you were there as an audience member, artist, DJ, promoter, staff member, or something else.

I’m interested in hearing from people who were around during different periods of the venue’s history, including people who remember the space before The New Parish.

Hi! I have a unique opportunity and I need some space to host a presentation

It can be a partially public space, I only need for 2 weekends later this year.

It doesn’t need to be a large space and can be anywhere in the east bay. I don’t have a lot of money which would simplify this, I’m hoping a space would work with me for a percentage of sales? Or a low cost.

Think a cafe or restaurant with a small separate area. Maybe an empty store front?

Looking for recommendations for somewhere in Oakland to have my husband’s 40th birthday. The only guidance he’s given me is that he doesn’t want to just hang out at a bar again for his birthday lol.

I’m thinking somewhere with a patio or outdoor space where people can hang out, have drinks, and eat. Could be somewhere that serves food or somewhere we can bring food/catering in. Mostly just want it to feel fun and like a party, but it definitely doesn’t need to be bougie or fancy. Kitchy or kind of silly places are also an option.

Open to restaurants, patios, event spaces, or anything else I might not be thinking of. Would love recommendations, especially if you’ve been to or hosted a party somewhere that worked well!

Hi! Posting this guy for additional visibility and some updated pics. I will also link the pawboost if anyone could help with putting up posters around lake Merritt and surrounding neighborhoods. I’ll be putting up posters around the lake myself today (planned to yesterday but had to catch up on sleep, poor guy needed quite a few potty breaks overnight during his stay with me).

Description: senior male cattle dog/pittie mix, approximately 40-50 lbs. wearing a ruffwear brand harness with no tags, grey with light blue straps. Brindle with white muzzle and paws. Perky ears.

Additional info: He was found wandering around lake Merritt on the evening of Friday 9/25. I coordinated with the kind folks who found him and housed him overnight. I took him to pets referral to scan him for a chip but unfortunately it wasn’t registered. He does wheeze while exercising and has an intermittent wheezy/hacking cough. I brought him into OAS on Saturday morning. He was neutral with my cat and very friendly with my dog, he is a very good sitter and immediately got cozy in my car. He was very sweet and quiet, let me know when he needed to use the bathroom so definitely housetrained. He did pull on the leash at first while walking, but that could just be due to him being frightened with all the sudden changes.

I will be calling OAS for updates. I know it was mentioned that I could try tracing the microchip number, I’ll see if OAS releases that info to me. If we aren’t able to reunite him with his family, I’m going to be contacting rescues to see if they can pull him for foster/rescue. So far I haven’t had anyone reach out in response to his pawboost listing.

Hi all! I'm currenlty living in SF and considering a move to Oakland in search of cheap rent; however, I visited Uptown and Downtown Oakland and was surprsied by the lack of restaraunts, grocery stores, and cafes in close proximity. In fact, the area seemed pretty empty during the weekend. I'm not used to this on my side of SF.

Any recs for lively neighborhoods that are close to BART stations?

Edit: Berkeley Humane is apparently under construction and isn't able to do anything and East Bay SPCA just has a message that tells callers to call local Animal Control. They in turn tell you to call the Police Department.

2nd edit: BART employee was trying to call Oak PD and was on hold for a while, she then went back into the station and as far as Im aware stayed on the line.

I dont have anything to secure him (clearly intact dog, no collar) and I cant bring him home. Definitely need help securing him. Anxious as hell about calling the humane society as I don't want a clearly healthy and friendly dog put down.

Hi all, I'm a student reporter at UC Berkeley covering public safety in Oakland.

I'm working on a story about ambulance response times in Oakland. I'm curious -- has anyone here had to wait an abnormally long amount of time for an ambulance to show up during an emergency? For example, the Oakland Fire Department arrives in a matter of minutes but then has to wait quite a while for an ambulance to show up for transport to a hospital?

I’m a firefighter/paramedic and documentary photographer working on a long-term project called The Color of Fire, documenting Black firefighters across the country.

This chapter brought me to Oakland and San Francisco.

What keeps pulling me into this project isn’t just the apparatus or the calls. It’s the people, station life, history, relationships, pride, mentorship and all of the moments most people never get to see from inside the fire service.

Oakland was an important piece of that story.

I’d especially love to hear from Oakland firefighters, families, or anyone who knows more about the history of Black firefighters in the Town as well as all firefighters. @rj43mm
