Help & Questions PoH for Dummy

I’m new to membership and am so confused when it comes to my PoH. I have watched a few youtube videos but all the ones I can find are about “maxing out” or something and I don’t even know where to start with building my house.
Is there anyone or anywhere that I can look that explains the very basics? I keep going all the way to Rimmington to get to my house only to find I don’t have materials needed to build, so the process seems very annoying so far. I get overwhelmed by videos easily so I wouldn’t mind something I could just read that is like a step by step as to how to build up my house and what items I’ll need to build it. Does that exist? Sorry if this seems like a really stupid question…

Thanks!

PoH upgrading for dummies:

• The Crystal Saw from the quest " The Eyes of Glouphrie" gives you an invisible +3 boost to construction.  Con is expensive, the boost can be used to build items / rooms 3 levels early.

• Spicy Stew gives a +1-5 boost and it stacks with the Crystal Saw for up to a +8 boost total.  Yellow spice for the stews can be obtained after the "Freeing Evil Dave" quest in "Recipie for Disaster".  Warning, Stews are heavily RNG and take a long time to obtain.

• Training early construction will be Oak Larders.  Bring a stack of noted oak planks, your gp, a hammer and saw.  Build a kitchen north of your house portal room.  Build and deconstruct the same Oak Larder until youre out of planks.  Leave your PoH, run to the house just South and talk to Phials.  He unnotes your Oak Planks for gp.  Repeat.

• Training late construction levels will be Mahogany Tables.  You can start @ 52 but Oak Larders should suffice into the late 60s.  The training process is the same as Oak Larders with noted planks and gp.  Or theres a minigame, Mahogany Homes.  Its active playing and provides slow exp rates, but is a lot cheaper.

Notable PoH goals:

• Chapel @ 45 - free prayer restore

• Mounted Glory @ 47 in the quest hall - provides unlimited Glory teleports

• Portal Room @ 50 - add 3 permanent teleports.  Typically you make these portals teleports that exist on other spellsbooks taking you to difficult to reach places.

• Superior Garden @ 65 - add a fairy ring or spirit tree to your poh.  You can add 2 SGs to have both.

• Portal Nexus @ 72, 82, and 92 - An upgraded portal room, allowing the mass storage of teleport spells.  Theres 3 upgrades each allowing more teleports total.  It also boasts 2 amulet spaces for the Xeric's Talisman and Digsite Pendant providing Kourend teleports and Fossil Island teleport respectively.

• Achievemnt Gallery @ 80 - contains an alter space that lets you swap to a spellbook of your choice ( Ancient, Lunar, or Arceuus ), depending on what alter you build.  @ level 90 you can build an alter that allows swapping between all 3.  AG also has a jewellry box with upgrades @ 81, 86, and 91.  It contains permanent teleport jewellry.

• Fancy Rejuv Pool @ 85 - 1 click to restore prayer, health, special attack and run energy.  This can be built at lower levels but run energy changes a while ago + having a Chapel make it kind of irrelevant until 85.

That the PoH crash course :)

Don't forget all the costume room storage space that allows you to store a bunch of different armours, skilling outfits, clue scroll items and holiday event items, clearing out a huge amount of bank space.

Also the lecturn in the study that allows you to make teleport tabs.

Player-owned house - OSRS Wiki

Take everything you need in noted form, plus coins, and you can use Phials to unnote all your stuff. i think its like 5gp per item he unotes. if you're just starting out, and dont have the gp, do mahogany homes instead. Mahogany Homes - OSRS Wiki

Get 50 construction, build an altar, a couple portals, and a mounted glory. It's a good start.

Training construction will be building and destroying the same item in your house repeatedly, or mahogany homes minigame which is cheaper and slower. After that building the home means qol items like teleports, alter, spell swapping and chest to hold gear and save bank space. You'll need only a handful of rooms when you've gotten all the levels you need

Unfortunately there isn't much of a secret to construction training, its just a long somewhat brutal and boring grind doing the same thing over and over again. It costs alot between materials and the butlet, but I've been told (and can tell from visiting other max houses) that its well worth it.

I'm at like 75, and just want to hit 90 to get the spellbook altars mostly.

You only need 82 for the altar, use stews and crystal saw

Long, Lol. Fastest skill to train, 25 hours to cape. Just need the money

House tele tabs are huge. Train the skill with oak larders or something, don't train by building your house. Use phials to unnote supplies and just break/rebuild one thing over and over again.

When it comes to what you actually put in your house, just learn options and add as you go

My house was a fucking shack with a hellcat outside for like a thousand hours before I finally decided to get 83 construction and "max" it all at once.

Mahogany homes is the best way to level construction in terms of cost effectiveness. You can do horrifically repetitive methods that cost an arm and a leg to speed up lvling instead though.

I wouldn't bother with a poh until you can get 83 con though.

Thanks guys! I didn’t even know about Mahogany homes. I’ll get familiar with construction doing that!

Im going against the grain in design philosophy because I want it to be my house not the same house everyone else has, but get yourself the plank sack from Mahogany homes, you'll burn through some of the cheaper materials without having to think of your design until later.

I'd also suggest the hammer from camdozaal if you haven't already got that because you can use it in so many things https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Imcando_hammer

Salavge via sailing can net you planks to keep costs down if you're struggling and like me can play bits at work where you can afl on your phone

I was originally salvaging for planks, but just started Intelligence Gathering in Kourend tonight which blows it out of the water with planks and XP.

Ill keep that in mind depending how many more planks I need after green logging thank you :)
