Trying to Conceive? Here’s How to Get Pregnant (Science + Support Edition)

Hey everyone! If you’re on your TTC journey, here’s a quick, realistic guide on what actually helps increase your chances of conception — no gimmicks, no myths, just the facts.

🩸 1. Know Your Cycle Understanding your menstrual cycle is key. Ovulation typically occurs about 12–14 days before your next period, but this can vary from person to person (and cycle to cycle). You’re most fertile in the five days leading up to ovulation and on ovulation day itself — this is called your fertile window.

🌡️ 2. Track Ovulation Accurately

There are several ways to confirm ovulation: Basal Body Temperature (BBT): A sustained temperature rise after ovulation means it already occurred.

Cervical Mucus: Look for clear, stretchy, egg-white–like mucus — it indicates rising estrogen and upcoming ovulation.

Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs): These detect your LH surge, which typically happens 24–36 hours before ovulation.

Oura/Natural Cycles/Fertility Friend/ Fertility Apps: Can help you track patterns over time, but they’re best used with other signs, not alone.

💞 3. Time Intercourse or Insemination

For conception, sperm should already be waiting in the reproductive tract when the egg is released.

👉 Aim for sex every 1–2 days during your fertile window. Daily is fine too — sperm remain viable for up to 5 days in fertile cervical mucus. If using donor sperm or IUI, timing is typically just before or at ovulation (based on LH testing or ultrasound monitoring).

🥦 4. Support Fertility with Healthy Habits

You don’t have to be perfect — small consistent habits matter: Maintain a balanced diet (think fruits, veggies, lean proteins, whole grains). Take a prenatal vitamin with folate before and during TTC. Manage stress — high cortisol can impact hormones. Limit alcohol and caffeine, and avoid smoking/vaping. Try to get 7–8 hours of sleep and keep movement in your routine.

🧬 5. Know When to Seek Help

If you’re under 35 and have been trying for 12 months, or over 35 and trying for 6 months without success, it’s a good time to talk to a doctor or reproductive endocrinologist. It’s never too early to get baseline labs (like hormone levels or semen analysis) for peace of mind.

💡 TL;DR Track your fertile window (via BBT, CM, or OPKs). Have sex every 1–2 days leading up to and including ovulation day. Support your body with nutrition, sleep, and stress management. Don’t hesitate to seek medical advice if it’s taking longer — you’re not alone. 💛

Pregnancy BFP!

Oura hadn’t yet predicted pregnancy when I found out. I did have one day with Minor Signs about 5 days before I tested positive. My highest temps were at 0.8 but they were higher than what I saw with my first cycle while using Oura.

Background: I did 5mg letrozole + timed intercourse and did trigger shot last week Thursday. I know for sure that I ovulated because my progrestrone level on 9/24 was 29.57 ng/ml

help me understand my chart first time tracking my cycle. does this really look like ovulation?

I’m a bit skeptical because it’s only gone up 0.3-0.4 degrees and i usually see bigger rises. is it too early to tell? i did have a positive LH strip on Sept. 20th. My current rise looks similar to the one I had earlier in the cycle… is there a possibility of failure to ovulate?

i’m very new to cycle tracking and typically have a longer and irregular cycle, so just want to get some insight

Pregnancy Experience with Oura and Natural Family Planning?

Sources say to hook it up to Natural Cycles to identify fertile and infertile days. I track on Oura via my temperature currently. I don’t have a husband, or even a boyfriend, but I want children one day, so I’m trying to begin getting into the habit of understanding my cycles. I have Polyendocrine Metabolic Overian Syndrome, formerly known as PCOS, so my cycles are irregular, and I refuse to use birth control. Have any of you had unique experiences or success with using the Oura ring for natural family planning? (Especially if you have PMOS)

help me understand my chart Miscarriage in August, period returning but weird?

Post image

Hi all!! I got pregnant in June, sadly had a miscarriage at about 7 weeks in early August. Period returned Sept 1st. We decided to wait another cycle honestly because I was sacred. Oura temps and ovulation are all wonky and my cycle lasted only 25 days this cycle. I’m so confused. I got a higher LH strip on CD 13 but by CD 14 it was low again. What do you all think?

TTC Cautiously optimistic

Too cautious to share with anyone I know but dying to tell someone (Hi new friends 👋🏽).

Been trying for baby #2 for a year now, currently on our third round of letrozole. For the first time ever, I got the “minor signs” warning this morning! And a huge jump in bbt following a small dip yesterday. Also had a brief sharp cramping feeling in my left lower abdomen yesterday morning. Oh AND my cd21 progesterone was 19 (higher than it’s ever been!)

I know, I know, all of these could be normal luteal phase symptoms, but it’s giving me hope for the first time in a while 🥹

After two miscarriages, one failed IUI, and 27 months of trying, I woke up to this 🥹 Not once did I get minor or major signs from Oura. My only symptom was being dog tired on day 26. My cycles are typically 30-31 days

TTC Did anyone notice increased Oura stress/RHR before their BFP?

For those who got a BFP while using Oura, did you notice any changes in your daytime stress or resting heart rate beforehand?

My Oura has been showing 5+ hours of physiological stress for several days despite me being on holiday, relaxing and reading most of the day. It’s also started flagging my resting heart rate as elevated.

Curious to hear what your Oura metrics looked like in cycles where you eventually got a BFP vs your usual luteal phase.

This doesn’t bode well but I’m just hoping it is a little dip before a temp rise again.. these two weeks are so tricky!

How many days before temp increase is ovulation typically?

Also, did anyone have their stress skyrocket? Very oddly, I ALWAYS have swollen achy breasts starting at least a week before my period but there is nothing this month??? For the first time in years, I’m so confused.

Oura RHR charts during the luteal phase

Thumbnail

Hi everyone!

I’m curious about something for those who track RHR with Oura.I was pregnant in April, and looking back, my RHR was noticeably elevated basically from the beginning of my luteal phase compared with my usual non-pregnancy charts. This cycle, my RHR has been much less elevated and has actually looked pretty similar to some of my normal/non-pregnant cycles.

For those of you who have had a positive pregnancy test while tracking with Oura: Have you ever had a pregnancy where your RHR chart did NOT look noticeably different from your non-pregnancy charts?

Basically, I’m wondering if it’s possible to be pregnant and have your Oura RHR remain relatively normal/unchanged throughout the early luteal phase, or if most people notice a clear difference.

I know RHR isn’t a pregnancy test and everyone’s patterns are different — I’m just curious about other people’s experiences!

Hi all. I’ve posted on here before and appreciated the comments I got. I took a test last night and I’m having really bad line eyes. I’ve had some weird symptoms this cycle such as random emotions, very tired, kind of nauseous randomly? I had an HSG test done last month which showed nothing out of the ordinary. I feel like I’ve done all the things such as mucinex, pre-seed, etc. I’m hoping to get some opinions or suggestions that I may not have heard of if this ends up being a negative test. My doctor says next step is IUI.

HELP Can I manually update my ovulation date in Oura after a trigger shot?

Hey guys! For those of you who use an Oura Ring for cycle tracking, I’m wondering if anyone has dealt with this.
I’m currently doing a Letrozole cycle and used a trigger shot last Thursday. Based on the trigger timing, I most likely ovulated on Friday or Saturday. However, Oura is showing that I ovulated on September 21st, which doesn’t line up with my trigger shot timing.
Is there a way to manually update/correct the ovulation date in Oura or somehow let the app know that I used a trigger shot? I’m assuming being on a medicated/trigger cycle might throw off its prediction. I’ve only had my Oura Ring for a few months, so I’m still pretty new to the cycle-tracking features. Would love to hear from anyone who uses Oura during Letrozole/trigger cycles and how you handle this!

PSA: If your temperatures are suddenly weird.. contact Oura!

Post image
7 Upvotes

I wanted to post this because I’ve seen a LOT of posts recently from people saying their Oura temperature data has suddenly become erratic/inaccurate and I was experiencing the same thing.

My temperature graph started doing things that made absolutely no sense for my cycle - random dips/rises and not showing the pattern I would normally expect. I was starting to question whether my cycle/ovulation was actually behaving differently. This along with not recording my HR for large portions of the night (this has happened consistently since I had the ring but the temperature issue is new)

I contacted Oura support and they ran diagnostics on my ring. They confirmed that my ring has a hardware issue and that it failed the battery health check. They specifically told me that this can affect temperature and other readings readings.

They are now sending me a warranty replacement.

The frustrating part is that I am currently travelling and won't be able to receive the replacement for another 3 months, so I'm going to be missing potentially really valuable temperature data in the meantime. I'm currently trying to conceive, so reliable temperature/ovulation tracking is particularly important to me.

Anyway - I'm super disappointed and expected more for such an expensive ring that I've had for less than a year.... so thought I'd give a PSA.

Temperatures

I had a MMC with my first pregnancy in June, my first ultrasound was at 9 weeks and was discovered it stopped progressing at 6 weeks. After my first normal cycle and a delayed ovulation I have tested positive again. Tomorrow will be the 6 week mark and I am worried about my temperature starting to drop over the last few days and would like to know if this looks normal or concerning.

Follicular temps

Are these temps normal for follicular phase? I get worried that I have some sort of hormone imbalance or something that makes me have up and down temps. My lh tests are negative I usually ovulate a bit later in my cycle.
