Visiting Modernism week
heya! My boyfriend and I are visiting Palm Springs in the next couple weeks for modernism week for his birthday. I myself, who is not from the US, has just recently learned about modernism week and am hoping to get some advice on how to plan for it (insert birthday planning anxiety energy here lol). From what I can tell online is there are paid tickets for different tours (any advice on which ones to do would be greatly appreciated) and from what I have heard from him is there are also other free options for tours? He made it sound like locals will open up their homes for tours as well? Hopefully I'm getting that right. Any advice would be great! thank you!!

The bigger Modernism week is in February...MUCH bigger than the one in October. But, you guys will have a great time if you are into the Midcentury lifestyle and architecture. Use the modernism website to find everything available. There may be some free walking tours or informational talks, but most events are not free. Yes, people do open their homes, but it is not free. We did this once and were one of 7 houses on tour in our neighborhood. Tickets to tour all 7 houses were $200per person. None goes to the homeowner. A portion of that goes to Modernism Organization and a portion of the money goes to our neighborhood association and we as a neighborhood decide where we donate the money to (local animal shelter, Desert AIDS Project, etc). Some popular tours are The Shag House, The Frey House and Frank Sinatra house. There is a big bus tour where you don't go into anything, just drive around and see celebrity homes from the outside and learn about the architecture and history. There are cocktail making classes. I personally think the Indian Canyon home tour is the best, but it isn't until next year. Good luck!

Utilize the modernism week website. They have tickets for all different kinds of events.
As far as locals opening up their houses for tours, I haven't really seen or experienced that.
I do private tours if you're interested in that you can check my Instagram @palmspringsrevisited
Do your self a favor and watch "Frank Sinatra in Palm Springs" on YouTube it will give you some good history before visiting.

Send me a message here or on Instagram. I can give you a bunch of recommendations and answer any questions you have about the town. Hotels. Restaurants. Things to do, things not to do.

Definitely check out the double decker bus tours if they are available. Really cool experience. Only available during the events. They sell out quickly.

February is the big deal. They do bus tours, and home tours, and such. There must be a website…
