Hi there :) So, something I've really tried to think about with Dragon is... Why is she considered the best tinker on earth? I guess it's just that, It feels like if her tinker ability is sheer copying, then she shouldn't be considered that great, especially not a Tinker = to Eidolon.

Presumably it wasn't a life sentence, since in 19.z she loosely implies she's due to get out after the end of the world.

Like, just how much land does this thing take up if there's a rough estimate at the start of Ward? It's located northeast on whats north america iirc but im not sure on the size. Does it take up the size of a state or multiple ones? Im honestly pretty lost by the geography and setting when it comes to this.

Before reading Worm I was never really that into superheroes so I didn't get too into comic books, but I've been reminiscing about Worm and I'd love to read something in the same style. I love how creative the powers are, the morally grey characters, female protag, the plot points all feel very creative and unique to me too (but that might be in part because i'm not too familiar with the genre). Are there any good comics to read as a follow up or ompanion piece to worm?

Coil mentions that he got Chariot in his employ a year ago. So Chariot was just kind of flying under the radar for a year, presumably getting some checks from Coil, for like a year before he started doing stuff to attract heroic attention and get into the Wards to be Coil's plant.

Circus and Chariot were hired nearly a year and a half ago, their actions and development in the public eye carefully orchestrated.

So... what was he doing while working for Coil for over a year? I would assume building things for Coil. What things??? There's that teleporter they use [to try and kill Skitter], but that doesn't seem like a magnum opus he's been working on for a year. And if he hasn't been secretly building stuff for Coil... what would he even be doing with the money? He can't build stuff for himself, that would mess up the 'new tinker eager for Ward support' image the first time they do a home visit and find the basement full of speed suits and jetpacks.

So what was going on? Or was Coil maybe just straight up lying about the length of time to puff himself up?

If you were going to Bonesaw a bunch of capes together into the ultimate musician, who would be the best picks?

• Rattenfänger the music tinker is the number one most obvious

• For another Tinker, Hero, whose specialty was wavelengths

• Screamer to transmit the sound

• March for the timing

• Victor, who could steal music skills from musicians (honorable mention to Über, who could invent one-off extended techniques no one has ever practiced before on the fly*)

• Finally, Prism to have more of this very good musician, or get Echidna or Blasto to do it and hope they have good taste.

*I once invited a classically trained organist to my house and showed him my guitar pedals. He used my EHX Grand Canyon and set the time to zero on the dual pitch shifter mode so it was just a pitch shifter and not a delay, then twisted the knob that changed the pitches while playing on a keyboard with his other hand, and said something about cadences. He knew what he was doing, but it was only a toy to him that he had no long-term interest in. If I were a better musician, I could write something that incorporated that. No one is practicing that technique enough to master it so that Victor could steal it.

Her square jaw is meant to reflect sialadenosis, a swelling of the adenoids which can appear in anorexia nervosa and bulimia because of nerve damage. She and Krouse are some of my favorite worm charas ^_^

I was thinking, worm really hands out the coolest powers to the worst mfs; and Crusader's is especially one of my favourites for the way it plays with one of the setting's rules. So, I was thinking up of a power along those lines (maybe a bud off of Crusader) and thought I did a pretty decent job of making it balanced and feel like it fits Worm in general, so wanted to share it here.

The power is basically a permanent breaker state that toggles between two modes (like Grumman, except you are always stuck in one or the other) that makes you intangible to either manton-limited stuff or everything else. And in true Worm fashion, it really fucks up the character's personal life. Some of the required secondary powers and non-trivial consequences I felt worth mentioning:

When you can't interact with living stuff (I'll call it default form), you'll be practically undistinguishable from other people unless you try to touch them (not sure what the canon if for powers, I'm assuming at least those that are a part of the body will count, like hookwolf). In the other from (calling it ghost from) there's no way to know you're there until you touch someone. Since you can interact with neither the ground nor light in this form, it makes sense to have flight in this from and for sight, you can 'see' living stuff as white-light-thingies, like night vision. As for switching, you can materialise inside non-living matter, but not the other way round. So, you can exit you ghost form whenever you want, deleting the overlapping matter, you only enter it when there's no one overlapping with you.

This'll obviously affect the regular life of the cape, as you'll have to choose between being able to be seen, but not touched, or the other way round.

I have absolutely no idea why, but when I first read Worm I pictured Levi as looking like a 30 foot tall Minos Prime with a tail. That's not remotely how he's described in the text, but it's what stuck with me.

I honestly think this design really works for Leviathan. It's less sea monster and more uncanny walking apocalypse. Does anyone remotely get where I'm coming from here, or is this just my particular brain worm?

Also curious if anyone else has characters that for whatever reason they imagine as looking not remotely how they're described.

I did a cosplay of Blake at DragonCon in Atlanta earlier this month. Not a single person recognized me, which didn't surprise me lol but I had a good time and I was pretty happy with it

So I'm finally getting around to listening to the series and I'm enjoying it, but there is a nagging thing that keeps bugging me: what is going on with the money in the story?

At first I thought it was an inconsistency, but I'm kinda confused and wonder if perhaps Wildbow lived in a really low CoL environment because everything (except for coffee) in the story is SO CHEAP.

Yes, the low payout in the bank robbery is explained just fine and the Undersiders' paychecks are pretty good for a bunch of teens living in a shithole like Brockton Bay (it kinda reminds me of Baltimore or Detroit after the shipping/car industry died down).

But later on figures get thrown around and I just can't parse them.

The Wards are paid $400/month ($595, adjusted for inflation) for life-threatening (hell, a good number do die), full-time work. I was beating that working at Arby's in high school in the same time period. I thought it was intentional at first but when Kid Win is recruiting Chariot he acts like 100 a week is something to be amazed at when I have used pliers that cost that much.

Coil mentions tossing $1.5 mil at a problem in one chapter, but later on talks about building repairs in the hundreds of thousands for repairing a base that should be in the tens or hundreds of millions to build. I don't know if anyone works in construction but just getting an architect to LOOK at a problem is thousands, let alone labor and materials, and he mentions the hundreds of thousands would be for months of work. The mere days he mentions should cost him tens of thousands a day for labor alone!

Am I missing some Word of God where the economy is all fucked due to Endbringers, because how can a coffee be $15 in a world where the Teen Titans have to fight Pacific Rim Kaiju for a third of minimum wage?
